What Jack means is that Kendrick Lamar received the nod for the Halftime show because he’s an activist for the African American community, as opposed to being a household name in music. As in—the only reason he performed at the Super Bowl was because of a characteristic unrelated to his musical prowess—not based on merit or competence. A DEI hire.
