I am so looking forward to my next appearance (and my only one in Europe this year) at HEROES COMIC CON BELGIUM, October 19-20 at Brussels Expo! If you care to pre-order a commission for me to do at the show, please go here:
There’s a comment that “surely criticism is a good thing.” You know what? Water is good for you, too. *Drowning* is not. Informed criticism from select, trusted sources is good. It doesn’t mean we have to sit still for every hot take from online randos. That’s not useful.
Generative AI is the solution to a "problem" that doesn't exist. The only people who want generative AI are the people who can't be bothered to learn to be creatives, and the people who can't be bothered to pay creatives. That's it.
What's even crazier to me about these set pics of
@Xolo_Mariduena
in costume as
#BlueBeetle
is that the guy behind him in the Pym Tech shirt is my old roommate... and was my model for the character of Paco in the comic. He's a crew member on the film, no lie.
"Alan Moore's Watchmen"... as if Dave Gibbons were merely an appendage to the creation of someone else. I'm gonna bang this drum 'til I die, apparently: Media journos *need to stop doing this*. In comics, writers AND ARTISTS *co-create the narrative*. Get it through your heads!
This is such a blind, ridiculous thing to say. I'll be blunt: It's never been "hard being a Christian in America." It's, in fact, the easiest thing to be in America, and the proof is in the very first paragraph of this idiotorial.
I gotta say it's still a bizarre feeling to go from visualing this design in 2005 to seeing it on a movie poster in 2023. Not my first go-round with a feature-film adaptation, obviously, but this is a much more direct one visually than RED was...

@SavageSmallwood
They aren't huge changes... but they are *badly done* and *ill-advised* changes, especially considering that you'd already addressed their notes yourself. I really hate this. Sorry, man.
The Supreme Court curbs the federal government’s ability to fight climate change. The decision is one of the most consequential cases for climate change and clean air in decades.
@mtgreenee
"People used to respect others even if they had different views."
...Like "divorcing" red states from blue ones, and denying people who move from a blue state the right to vote for thr first 5 years? That kind of respect?
You're an oaf.
These guys are all so quick to wrongly tag someone without checking their facts. But when it's time to (non) apologize for it? They don't tag you in that. They actually hope you don't see it at all. Really, really weak, man.
The Inverse tweet made it seem as if someone named Cully Hamner was the author of this article. Others made the same assumption. He wasn't. So the lies and bigotry driving this article shouldn't have been attributed to him but to its author. Apologies.
Trina Robbins, one of the greats of American cartooning, has passed on. She's an Eisner Hall Of Famer, a pioneer of underground comix, and a noted Wonder Woman artist. RIP and condolences to her partner, Steve Leialoha, and to all her loved ones and fans.
Hey, since we're all about
#FutureState
today,
@DCComics
has cleared me to share this look at the Guardian Of Metropolis, from the two-parter
@SeanChrisLewis
and I are doing in SUPERMAN OF METROPOLIS.
Carlos Pacheco… what an amazing, brilliant, fully-realized creature of comic art he was, and also what a gent. Only met him a few times over the years, but he was always very kind. You left a mark, sir, and you’ll be missed. RIP.
30 years ago today was the release of ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN 500, which kicked off REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN, the story that brought Superman back and introduced The Eradicator, Steel, Cyborg Superman & Superboy!
Yet another example of this weird default setting that identifies only comics writers as "creators" and comics artists as merely "hired by the writers." It's gone beyond the offensive and into the boring at this point...
If you're anything at all like me, you can go from "I did an okay job on this and I feel appreciated" to "I'm not very good, no one cares anyway, and my career is over" and then back again in the space of, like, a day. Hell, an *hour*.
George Perez, one of the GOATs of our craft, rest in peace and power. It’s gratifying, at least, that he got to hear how all of us felt about him while he was still here.
He was a Titan.
Condolences to his family, his many friends, and his many, many fans.
I'm taking part in the
#Creators4Comics
auction starting TODAY! I have a signed Superman statue I designed for
@DCComics
, along with the original design art! Both the base and box are signed- and I doodled on the box! Opening bid is $200. Here's what you do... 1/1
Just hit my doorstep-- the brand new collected edition of the
#BlueBeetle
series I did in 2006 with
@jonrog1
and
#keithgiffen
for
@dccomics
! AND! And there's a section with select designs I did for the series. You're gonna wanna grab this if you don't have the original issues.
Want to chime in here the day after the layoffs at DC and highlight the fact that it isn’t just names you know losing their jobs. People who have been there for decades- lifers who got us all paid on time and generally kept the wheels turning without any public accolades.
Ask any working comic book creator and they will tell you: Comics are not merely writing with illustrations added, but rather a symbiosis of the two. They work together to create the visual narrative that you're reading. I'm sure someone on this app will... /1
I've never quite understood why 2008's THE INCREDIBLE HULK is always at the bottom of critics' lists of MCU films. The look of the Hulk himself wasn't quite there yet, but I think it's a solid entry otherwise.
Just heard the sad news about writer/editor Brian Augustyn's passing. Hadn't seen him in years, but always a hell of a nice guy. And such a good writer- GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT alone is required comics reading, IMO. Condolences to his family, his friends, and his fans...
By now the news about the passing of my old Gaijin studiomate Jason Pearson is out. To say he was a singular talent is, at best, an understatement. He always stood out as that, from the first time we met at the start of the ‘90s, to the 7 years we spent as studiomates, to now. /1
I know George was mostly (and rightly) lauded for for all the characters and information he could get across on a given page, but the fact that he could also turn around and do *this*... 15-year-old me was amazed, and 53-year-old me still is.
PRO-TIP ( and I know I've said it before but it bears repeating periodically): Generally, a comics page can bear the weight of 2 of these 3 things: A lot of panels; a lot of text; and a lot happening. You will nearly always have to sacrifice one for the other two. /1
The new
#Superman
has dropped "The American Way" from his iconic catchphrase in
@DCComics
and now strives to fight for "Truth, justice, and a better world."
This is just heartbreaking. Aside from being a major influence on me as a budding artist and a huge New Teen Titans fan, as an adult I’m fortunate to know what a wonderful man he is. We all know it. And I hope he knows how much everyone loves him.
Wishing peace to you, George.
Comic book legend George Perez has announced through his FB page that he has Stage 3 pancreatic cancer and has six months to live.
You cannot begin to describe the impact this man had as an artist for DC and Marvel and who by all accounts is an incredibly nice guy too.
Don't give Ivey any credit for this. She should've been forcefully telling Alabamians to get vaccinated 8 months ago, and she should've kept her already-belated mask mandate in place until the state reached the herd immunity threshold. She's made the wrong choice every time.
TX Governor Greg Abbott booed and humiliated attending the memorial service at the elementary school. This memorial service would not be taking place if it were not for him and the Republicans he works with who go above and beyond to arm nutcases.
A personal rule I've tried to follow in my career, esp. since the advent of social media, is to refrain from public criticism of anyone else's work in comics. I don't know anyone who isn't trying to make the best comics they possibly can, and this biz is hard enough, you know?
The final cover- drawn for Marvel and in no way "Ringo's last cover"- as it saw print. Any image Mike S. Miller is touting as such is a fraud that he repurposed and redrew from rooting through the garbage of my friend who is no longer with us.
AOC is saying on IG Live she received messages from other member of Congress that they knew and were hearing from Trump people and Republicans that there was violence expected on Wednesday (Jan. 6).
And just because I'm starting to get a little jazzed about all the good reviews of the film starring one of my favorite characters of all time, this piece I did last year feels worth another tweet to me.
