We were intel which attracts a lot of odd ducks and leans more left than the service as a whole. Aside from that the military and veterans lean right but there are ~3 million vets from GWOT alone, out of that large of a population you're going to run in to all types. And the left also is seen (correctly) as anti-American and anti-military, so any veteran pushing leftist talking points is going to be promoted and given an astroturfed platform

I didn't know him well, never interacted with him outside work and barely there. From what I could tell he was a bit of a weirdo but not out of the ordinary by intelligence standards.
