The 2018 Worlds podium of Kaetlyn, Wakaba, & Satoko already felt like the true Olympic podium that we should've gotten, and I feel this so much more now
Thinking more about how Japanese media also seemed to glorify the Eteri girls and made like a 30 minute documentary about Alina getting Masaru but they can’t be bothered with their own ladies despite so many of them having incredible talent and interesting personalities.
Looks like Alysa deleted everything on IG & said ✌️ for real
Not everyone’s retirement glow-up involves skating, or is meant for us to see. I hope they have fun being with their friends, chasing their other dreams, & that they have the freedom & privacy to be a normal teenager
In case it’s not apparent this is a 23 year old man doing a quad twist with a 10 year old partner
Wishing jail time for every adult that put her in this situation
Keiji announces his retirement & everyone is immediately calling for a Miyahara/Tanaka ice dance or pairs team 😂😭😂😭
I fully support their decisions to be professional skaters but I also can’t unsee the 3 spots for JPN pairs or their beautiful Romeo & Juliet collaboration 🥺
This renewed my rage about how the judges kept giving Satoko's goated Sparrow step sequence a level 3 so she worked extra hard to keep changing it during the 2018-2019 season, & when her Planets stsq was invalidated at 2016 SCI because the judges "didn't know when it started" 😡
Wow for Mana Kawabe to go from no GP assignments at the beginning of the season & crowdfunding for boots to NHK silver medalist, National bronze medalist, and Olympian! Congrats! 💕
@taralipinski
Reminder that the fandom tried for YEARS to bring attention to Eteri's abusive methods but we were silenced by voices like yours on NBC that didn't stop praising Eteri & whichever 15-year old we were supposed to believe was the new goat of figure skating
Thread: Eteri Tutberidze and the team at Sambo 70 have a long and horrifying history of disregarding skater health, diminishing serious injuries, and forcing injured teenage athletes into premature retirement. All of this has been enabled by the ISU, judges, and commentators. 1/x
There's a huge difference between doing what you can, continuing to learn & centering disabled people vs. defending what you're doing as "enough" because your identity as a "good person" is being challenged. "Don't make perfect the enemy of good" often gets co-opted by the latter
I bring a real “any covid precautions you take are better than none even if you still participate in high risk activities” vibe that a lot of covid conscious twitter does not like
@mhjd_85

@ISU_Figure
We value your voice in this sport so much Meagan, not just when you speak up about Ukraine but also about fair scoring, abuse, covid protocols, etc.
Elladj and his wife Michelle giving Satoko her Christmas miracle by letting her stay with them after she couldn’t fly back to Japan is the sweetest thing 🥹
Everybody loves her so much 😭💕
Satoko didn't win a medal, but she won at the GP in so many other ways. She reestablished her strength & consistency, won more hearts, and further cemented her legacy as one of the best artists the sport will ever have. I'm so proud of you Satton!! 😊💕🍍

I'm glad that Shabotova couldn't keep her pro-war views to herself. To think that she would've been near Nazarova/Nikitin & Shmuratko as their teammate, and getting the same type of ovation as them while actually supporting the invasion of the country that she's representing.
I know ppl want to make fun of a struggling skater on fstwt (where other struggling skaters can see it) but more of us need to be asking what, if anything, were John Zimmerman & Silvia Fontana doing to help Kevin prepare for Euros & why didn’t they have him WD if he wasn’t ready.
Getting rightfully criticized for joining Team Tutberidze after the Beijing Olympics doping scandal and during Russia's genocide in Ukraine isn't hate. It's the consequence of using your privilege & freedom to make the most disgraceful choice possible.
About getting hate: “It was very difficult to go on the ice today because I got so many hate messages. I tried to deactivate and not watch anything because it hurt a lot. I will work more now to find more motivation!”

Of course the Russians' overscoring is worse, but her PCS compared to Wakaba & Satton also upsets me. As much as we've convinced ourselves to like this program because she won so many medals with it, it didn't deserve such high marks for IN or CO and she didn't need it to win.
No I'm not going to feel bad if skaters who are overscored & probably doping don't get to compete at Worlds where Putin could continue to use their accomplishments to flex
@cbrennansports
Yes thank you for ignoring everyone's replies and qrts all day & bringing more attention to this exchange you had with a skater who's hard of hearing and not fluent in English. That'll definitely help us get to the bottom of the abuse and doping of the Team Tutberidze.
Satoko deserved an Olympic medal but it always warms my heart to see her immediate reaction was a double guts pose of pure joy for skating at her best on the biggest stage 🥹 Some gold medalists don’t feel that & not many keep growing like she has 6+ years after the Olympics 🍍👑
TW // rape, pedophilia, sexual assault
If anyone is wondering why Aljona's decision to continue competing is getting such a negative reaction - she's rumored to be partnering up with TJ Nyman and was recently in Colorado to work with Dalilah Sappenfield. ⬇️⬇️

fans interested in skating: this is Satoko Miyahara #宮原知子 🇯🇵. She embodies how beautiful & artistic figure skating can be, & will forever be the "tiny queen" 👑of our hearts ♥️. If possible, see her perform live & thank her with 🍍plushies!🥰

@mikejardins
Mie Hamada is like the perfect example of how stupid and harmful it is to say "well they seem nice and aren't being abusive from what I've seen therefore I'm 100% sure they aren't abusive at all whatsoever, end of discussion"
Satoko's mystery program is a flamenco program choreographed by Stephane! 🥰
In just 4 months she's created 4 new programs, designed her own costumes, & is still drilling her triple lutz. She's competing not for a medal but just to be the best Satoko and I love that for her 🥹🍍
As someone who lifted weights for more than a decade & knows how to box this is not it. Yeah it’s great but idk what community you can create if you don’t realize people are too disabled & overworked to do that 4-5x a week. Wearing a mask in public is 1000% more impactful
Happy birthday Wakaba and congratulations on making the Olympic team!! We love you so much and can't wait for the whole world to see how powerful and amazing you are! Please stay healthy and keep fighting to make your dreams come true! 🧡🦁💛

Please also talk about how this is part of a larger issue of state-sponsored abuse and corruption that is spearheaded by Team Tutberidze at the expense of the health & well-being of numerous skaters.
Thread: Eteri Tutberidze and the team at Sambo 70 have a long and horrifying history of disregarding skater health, diminishing serious injuries, and forcing injured teenage athletes into premature retirement. All of this has been enabled by the ISU, judges, and commentators. 1/x
I love how successful Yuzu & Satoko are as pro skaters while taking completely different approaches - Yuzu creating his own shows that he can carry on his own or choose who he works with 🐐 vs Satoko doing all the tours & constantly making new friends 🍍
I'm so happy for them 🥹
So JSF made the same mistake that they made in 2018 when they assigned Satoko, Mai, and Rika to NHK with Liza, because now they have Kaori, Rion, and Rinka at NHK with Yelim, Starr and Amber who all have GP medals 😭😭😭
Before anyone complains about fans being "anti-Russian" - anyone who cares about health & safety during a pandemic would be upset when certain people violate basic COVID protocols, especially if it's done numerous times, on purpose, & in such an "in-your-face" manner.
I honestly hope Nathan Chen spends the day reading everyone's tweets so he understands how his comments are 1) homophobic, 2) incorrect (FS isn't "LGBTQ dominated" by the handful of out skaters), & 3) especially insulting coming from one of the most privileged & favored skaters.
Not everyone thinking Mirai unretired when she's literally the only option. She's already in Japan for SOI and anyone else would have to be on a plane rn because the Japan Open is tomorrow
Happy birthday Satoko!!! 🎂
Thank you for bringing so much joy wherever you go and for continuing to find new ways to amaze us with your skating. I wish you the best of health and a year full of fun new challenges! 🥹🍍

I hope Haein Lee still name searches and sees how upset the fandom is with her & why.
Trying to prove the consent of a minor is beyond disgusting. At best their past relationship was inappropriate AF, & sexual harassment/assault is what it is regardless of relationship status.
🇰🇷 Haein Lee has come forward as Skater A and given an interview apologising for drinking at the overseas camp, but denies accusations of sexual harassment/assault claiming she and Junior Skater C were in a relationship which began when both were minors.
I'm really excited for this new era of Satoko the pro skater 😊 She already has several exhibitions that show us more of her personality and that are brilliant works of art. Imagine what she can create now that she can explore limitless possibilities and skate with total freedom!
I desperately want Satoko to perform Paternera in front of an audience that can properly scream, like I need her to know how much we've been losing our shit
@ISU_Figure
Thank you, the negative comments are not from fans & do not reflect the appreciation & encouragement that actual fans want to give to the skaters. While the engagement & positive comments are fun & great, protecting these developing skaters from that negativity is more important.
Idk it’s always bothered me how much ppl on fstwt talk about skaters flopping or being flops when actually there are only a handful of skaters that are consistent, and a lot of them are fed faves who are judged more favorably.
Maybe being consistent in FS is actually very hard.
Happy 3 year anniversary to Satoko's Olympic free skate! Especially in these uncertain times, it warms my heart to think about how hard she fought to get to PyeongChang & that against all odds, she was able to show the world why she's so special. 🥺😭 Soar on Satoko! 🦋❤️💕
Satoko blog update! The SOI cast gave her a cake that said "Satoko our honorary Canadian" 😭 & she came home to the message books that

Good thing the symptoms of Ebola include fever, sore throat and fatigue which are totally distinguishable from covid which we're doing a great job of containing /s
I’m so sad that we won’t see Han Yan’s gorgeous skating and gigantic 3A at Beijing…just another name on the list of amazing skaters that won’t be at the Olympics 😭😭😭
Happy birthday Satoko!!! 🎂 Watching you continue to blossom as a pro skater has been more exciting than I could've imagined, thank you for all the joy that you give to us! I wish you the best of health & another amazing year!! 🥹🍍

Bumping for any figure skating fans who are watching the Junior Grand Prix & are wondering why fstwt is bothered by Mark and Ted praising Mie Hamada. This sport is just as rotten and toxic as it was during the Beijing ladies free skate.

Regarding the ongoing legal battle between Nobunari Oda and Mie Hamada, it’s reported that Oda’s side has presented as new evidence the names of 4 athletes training at Kansai University’s ice rink and

If Romeo & Juliet is what Satoko skates to for Japan Open, it looks like her jump layout would be:
3Lz +2T
3Lo
3S+3T
2A
3Lz
3T
2A+2T+2Lo
which would be amazing given that she hasn't competed in so long 🥹
She even has an illusion spin exit, like she is ✨Prepared ✨
Anthony can be junior for 2 more years, where clean skates with triples up to a 3Lz could keep him in medal contention because of his strong PCS.
He’s a kid & most of us only discovered him this season, who are we to think it’s a problem that he doesn’t compete with a 3A “yet”?
Han Yan's 3A is easily my favorite non-Yuzu 3A ❤️
The casual elegance that he skates with makes it especially 😱🤯 to see him go from soft, beautiful skating to MONSTER TRIPLE AXEL then back to soft, beautiful skating
It's been truly heartwarming to see Satoko receive so much love and appreciation for her skating and who she is as a person that she literally became the 🥰 emoji
Besides the fact that Satoko's outdoing herself as a pro skater and already made 4 amazing programs in just a few months, I think any ice show would be lucky to cast her because she's also a great international friendmaker who brings good vibes with her wherever she goes 🥹🍍💕
The age limit won't stop abuse because this sport is corrupt & filled with voices like yours that perpetuate it. For YEARS fans screamed into an abyss about the abuse going on at Sambo 70 while you praised Eteri on NBC & convinced the masses that each Eteri girl was the new goat.
Raising the age limit is a quick fix that will deny athletes a performance on the biggest stage, and ultimately not make a difference in stopping the abuse. These young athletes will still be skating under this broken system, you just won’t see them til they are 17.
Today makes 4 years since Satoko’s short program in the Ladies event at the Pyeongchang Olympics! Her perfect performance gave her a season’s best! 😊❤️🍍
#宮原知子
It shouldn't have taken a doping scandal for it to be safe on fstwt to discuss how fake the Russian ladies' results have been for years 🤷♀️
Like back then if I said that Kaetlyn & Satoko should've been at the top of the Pyeongchang podium I would've been ridiculed & crucified
It may seem like we're splitting hairs over a step sequence level but some fans don't want to acknowledge that overscoring makes a huge difference, especially when a much more talented skater has to spend additional time & money in the hopes that they'll be fairly rewarded.
If I were to go back in time & reassure 3/26/22 me that watching Satoko blossom as a skater & as a person after her retirement would be more heartwarming & exciting than I could imagine, I would only need to see this.
I could not be happier to be a fan of Satoko Miyahara 🥹👑🍍
Happy Birthday Wakaba!! 🎂 The soul & power that you skate with is so unique, & it creates performances that will live in our hearts forever. 🥺😭 Please take care of yourself & have a wonderful year, we will always love & believe in you!! 🥰❤️💕

Great job Kaori, Satoko & Rika for earning 3 Olympic spots for Team Japan despite the setbacks & uncertainties of this most difficult season. Please take care of yourselves & get lots of rest! We love you & will always support you, through both the struggles & the victories ❤️
Satoko finishing 6th in her first senior JNats at 13 years old & then staying within the top 5 for the following 10 years (4 of those years winning gold, 3 of those years winning bronze) is so amazing, especially considering the other top skaters she was competing against 🥹👑🍍
This was from Satoko’s 2nd senior JNats, where she already skated like THIS & won 🥉
She was 6th at JNats the year before, and in the following 10 JNats, she’d win 4 🥇, 3 🥉, & was always in the top 5, even in the years where she was “inconsistent” 🤯
What an amazing career 🥲
US Stars on Ice is in a hole because even if Kazuki Tomono exists they wouldn't cast him if he isn't a US champion or World medalist. And the Kazukis of the world can't win against skaters like Ilia who are supposed to be the next "star" but jump drill their way to inflated PCS
Why I love Satton in 4 photos ❤️:
1. She's a class act 💕
2. Her determination to keep fighting for her dreams 🥺😭
3. She makes friends with people from different backgrounds in spite of her shyness🥰
4. Her rascal sense of humor🤣
She's also quite good at figure skating. 🍍👑
Satoko's range and performance ability has been underrated for years but she's really blossomed so much ever since she turned pro 🥹🍍
I love pure Satoko and unholy Satoko and all the different shades and colors of Satoko in between 🤍❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤
Skaters can have an amazing ina bauer, spreadeagle, hydroblade, cantilever, spiral etc. but it gets boring if those moves make up the choreo sequence for every program. It keeps us from seeing choreography that's unique to the music/genre which imo is more impressive & exciting
It’s absolutely jokerifying to have to watch skaters quad or Eteriflate their way to 9s in PCS when skaters like Satoko and Deniss were always stuck in the 8s.
What’s the point of the sport if that’s not the skating you’re rewarding when the criteria is clear that you should?
Unfriendly reminder that we live in a world in which Deniss has never scored 45 PCS in the SP despite the quality of his skating skills and presentation
Still wild that there’s a best coach category at all, how can anyone actually assess that as an outsider in any meaningful or objective way. The fact that this award was given to Eteri makes it entirely invalid tbh
Who do you think should be in the running for each of the ISU Skating Awards categories? 🤔👇

👗 Best Costume

🌟 Best Newcomer
🕺 Best Choreographer

By inflating Ilia’s score with undeserved 9s in PCS, they’re sending a horrible message to even good performers with multiple quads and thoughtful programs that their considerable efforts & abilities to be well-rounded give them zero advantage.

Many thanks to everyone who helped to translate & clarify the information that has been released thus far. This must be difficult on many levels.
We can tell ourselves we don’t know these skaters & not to put them on a pedestal but it doesn’t make it hurt less to find This out.
Since the information can get very confusing, I've also created this chart with all the information from the two articles that have been published so far (that I know of).
In one year as a pro skater, Satoko gave us 7(!) programs & has done:

SOI Autumn 🇯🇵

Although I wish she was also properly recognized as the Olympic 🥇 or 🥈 medalist, I’m so happy that Satoko’s immediate reaction after her free skate was one of pure joy & accomplishment. A medal can’t always give someone a feeling like this, & no one can take it away from her 🥹

Wakaba overcoming all odds to become an Olympic bronze medalist just to not have her Olympic bronze medal is one of the most Wakaba things to happen and I will never forgive Rusfed even after she gets it 😭😭😭
Excluding women singles skaters is a terrible decision & I don’t see what benefits or positives that could add to the show or what creative direction would make that necessary or a good idea.
Lots of seats are going to stay empty out of principle. You owe these skaters better.
Putting Kevin in that GPF against all those guys throwing down multiple types of quads (not just Ilia) was probably the worst way to mess with his confidence idk why they politicked so hard for that. Give Matteo back his chsq & Shun his GPF spot and none of this needed to happen
