They are afraid to think big government. They are cowed by donors and by the power of capital at this point in history.

One of the Democrats’ biggest faults is the total lack of political imagination; something the right doesn’t suffer

@lionel_trolling Would you say Reagan was not authoritarian and illiberal? One problem with the fascism thesis is that it normalizes Reaganism; it's a logic ultimately has a conservative underside to it that can be hard to see but becomes all-encompassing. It's why there was no Dem vision imo.

@Kip_JD @lionel_trolling With fascism, one of the issues is that when you overuse the term, people stop believing you and I do think that happened with Trump 1.0. It's like the boy who cried wolf; especially dangerous with Trump because there are definitely some real wolves around him, like Musk.

@Tommy_Prieto @WillFedder @lionel_trolling I wouldn't even go that far, I think Trumpism is neoliberalism with its mask off. Most of the things he's trying to do are things that neoliberalism was more slowly attending to already.

@lionel_trolling What do you think of Varoufakis' technofeudalism thesis? I feel like that allows for some of the currents of fascism, but it also attempts to theorize our moment in terms of the novel progression of capital over time, something I think the fascism thesis misses.

Whenever I’m in the kitchen and I’m cleaning, it’s total superego time: I’m imagining myself through the eyes of people I’ve known who have cleaner kitchens than mine and wondering what they would think of the job I’m doing.

One thing that social media has shown is that people want to be more connected to each-other than they are in their daily lives and the other thing it shows is that a lot of that connection is manifest through aggression.

Paintings of gardens are so interesting because the gardens themselves are already representations of nature. The paintings are representations of representations—the anti-platonic ideal.

If academics need another reason not to embrace AI, it's now very clearly Trump-aligned. I only say this because it's startling to me how many academics, even some in the humanities, have embraced this technology as if it's apolitical/inevitable.

@ThatCoolBlkNerd @ellienyaaa @lxeagle17 They had shit handed to them; maybe they made the best of it, but I would not say that any of those elections were free and clear of taint. The last real one was Obama in 08, and then it was clear that voters wanted change. I believe they still do.
