Crane Beach is one of 125 special places protected forever by
@thetrustees
, featuring miles of sandy beach, hiking trails, wildlife, & the wide blue ocean.
To everyone, before June 10 we will announce the release of additional Timed Entry Passes and will Tweet here when it happens. The announcement will include a fixed schedule for the twice-weekly release of passes going forward.
@thetrustees
We're pleased to reopen Crane Beach on May 19 in a controlled manner to keep everyone safe. At reduced capacity, we will require an advance reservation for entry for all, including Crane Beach permit holders. Visit for full details and FAQs.
@thetrustees
Unfortunately, having the hottest tickets in town is causing severe delays with the ticketing platform. We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible.
The post you’ve all been waiting for! Reports are that greenheads are very much on the decline. Still a few out there, but we think we’ve passed the worst of it. We are open until sunset, and one summer camper’s report is that the water is “oh-so-refreshing”.
#fingerscrossed
Due to high volume of customer traffic, our tickeing platform has crashed. Timed Entry Pass reservations are on hold while we look into this so that no one is missing out. We will post as soon as we are able to resume. Sincere apologies for the frustration this is causing.
Going forward, Timed Entry Passes for Crane Beach (required for all) will be released 2x/week at Noon on Thurdays (for F/Sa/Su) & Mondays (for Tu/W/Th/F). There are options for all at , however Permit holders have additional options not available to others.
Ticketing system worked as hoped on Thurs at Noon. Passes went QUICK! Digital release of Passes takes a few mins for all batches to load. It's not automated/synced to satellite time. Almost all Passes are going to Permit holders & Members. Next release Monday @ Noon.

Plenty of parking as of 9am, and a gorgeous day at the beach. Try alternatives to plastic straws at the snack shack and let us know what you think. We are looking at all single-use plastics and assessing alternatives.

So far this season, 17 piping plover chicks have matured to the point of growing their flying feathers, also known as “fledging.” Last year, 76 chicks fledged from Crane Beach, and if trends continue we could be in for another banner year. 🐦
It's finally here! Dogs and horses are welcome at Crane Beach through the end of March. Info about these offerings are on the Crane Beach website and at the gate entrance. Please help us keep the beach clean and safe!
Happy Sunday! Water is 63F and a northeasterly breeze at 12mph will help keep greenheads at bay on the beachfront. Greenie season has started, but it’s not too bad yet, worse in the parking lot than beachfront. Skin So Soft is available in the beach store!
Looking for passes? By Tuesday evening, we'll post a fixed schedule for future pass releases. Later today (Monday), Permit holders will receive what we hope will be the final pass-related email to kick off this next phase of the Timed Entry Pass program.
It's going to be a beautiful weekend, and we're excited that the beach is open again! Please note that there are no more parking passes available for the weekend. If you don't have a pass, we will be releasing more next week. Stay tuned here + Facebook for updates.

So excited that we have reached 10,000 followers!! Thank you all for contributing to what makes this place so special. We look forward to keeping you all as up to date as possible on Twitter with parking and property updates.
If you come across a seal on the beach, be sure to keep a safe distance of 150 feet. Seals are protected by law and can also be aggressive. Report any seal sightings to beach staff at (978)412-2589. Pictured here is a young harp seal spotted a few weeks ago!
Good news! After reviewing all of the requirements in the Governor's orders related to our operations, we have determined we can reopen Crane Beach tomorrow, May 20th at no more than 50% of our typical capacity. See additional details in the thread that follows.
@thetrustees
Greenhead season is upon us. As much as we enjoy the heat and humidity, so do the greenheads. Skin so soft is an effective repellent that we sell in the beach store.

We are deeply saddened to share news of the passing of Barbara Erickson, The Trustees President, and CEO, on the afternoon of January 15, 2021. After a valiant struggle with cancer, Barbara passed peacefully surrounded by family at her home.
Tomorrow we’ll pilot alternatives to plastic straws as one of many steps towards sustainability. If you aren’t ready/able to ditch the straw entirely, get 20% off a reusable set or test drive some paper/compostable straws & tell us what you think.

Here is a scene from Friday, one of our busiest weekdays ever. Still going to be a nice one today, though a bit cooler. Parking is available unless we post otherwise. Enjoy the day!
Freedom! This lobster got a second chance at life after washing up in a trap. What a lucky lobster to have been rescued by staff removing litter from the beach. You know what they say, freedom today... hot buttered roll tomorrow. Good luck, buddy! 🦞

However, Crane Beach & Castle HIll grounds are open & free to all. All this and more awaits, plenty of space for social distancing while you recharge with a little nature therapy.

Crane Beach fans, we hear you! Lifeguards report sparse presence of greenheads on the beachfront. They are more abundant in marshy areas on the back of the estate. The season seems to be off to a slow start, and while this could change at any time, we will report again soon.
We understand that some are disappointed that we now have fixed AM and PM time slots that visitors must adhere to. We're experiencing unprecedented demand for beach access & are working to make it possible for more people to get a crack at a Crane Beach visit.

Another beautiful day here at Crane Beach. Plenty of parking, warm weather, water temperature is 59 degrees and climbing. A perfect first day of what looks like a long stretch of awesome weather .And best of all - NO GREENHEADS!
If you reserved a pass, have an order number, but didn't receive an email, not to worry. The fact that you have an order number means you are booked, & you can provide that number at the gate. Sea temp is a balmy 71, and the tide is high at 10:25am. Greenheads aren't too bad.
Greenhead season is upon us. Lifeguards are reporting that they are less present on the beachfront than at the beach gate and in the parking lot, nevertheless, they are out! Skin-so-soft is available in the beach store.
It's practically the weekend! Friday is looking like a glorious beach day. Endless sun, sea, & sand with water temps around 67F. Greenheads are on the decline, should be completely gone very soon. It should be a comfortable day on the beach!
Going to be a hot day, no better place to enjoy the sunshine and cool down in the ocean than at Crane Beach! Expecting a busy day but parking should not be an issue. Greenhead numbers very low, hoping tonight’s full moon drive the last few away!
Going to be another hot day! “Sick” days are best spent at the beach where the ocean will cure what ails you!! With greenhead season over you probably won’t even see any of those pests. Expecting another busy day here but parking shouldn’t be an issue!
It's going to be a beautiful weekend, and we're excited that the beach is open again! Please note that there are no more parking passes available for the weekend. If you don't have a pass, we will be releasing more next week. Stay tuned here + Facebook for updates.

, dogs are no longer allowed at Crane Beach for the duration of dog season, effective immediately. Horses are welcome weekdays only thru 3/31. Thanks for your understanding as we work to protect the health of visitors and staff in unprecedented times.
Wondering why if you have a Crane Beach permit, you also have to reserve a parking pass?
* In order to manage crowd size and visitor expectations.
* We are reducing our overall beach capacity to keep everyone safe.
* To plan for & manage beach traffic.
Hey book-lovers, our Tiny Library next to the Snack Shack is low on books at the moment. Do you have any good books you'd like to donate? As long as there is space, just add them to the shelves. Kids books welcome, too! 🙏📕

Today is World Oceans Day! At the end of Castle Neck, the beach is eroding and losing sand. While beaches change naturally, we want to understand how climate change will affect this natural cycle and what it ultimately means for the future of Crane Beach and Essex Bay.
The mobi-mat is in for the season! Did you know that we offer transportation year-round between the parking lot and beachfront for anyone for whom the journey by foot is not an option? Inquire at the beach store or gate.

A really nice day here at Crane Beach, with low humidity yet temps at or above 90. Before you ask, there is a nice breeze and greenhead activity on the beach is still minimal.
CRANE BEACH FANS, as part of our ongoing effort to maximize beach access, we are releasing additional passes in real time when parking lot conditions allow. Any announcement of additional pass releases will be made here. The Mon/Thurs Noon release is unchanged.
