I'm a senior citizen on a very limited income for whom there are few public resources available. Nonetheless, I'm apparently supposed to provide free school lunches, free entertainment spaces, etc for people WITH MEANS who chose to have children. If I say no I'm a child hater.

We're talking about playgrounds, and pretty elaborate ones. We're not talking about basic education and library funding. There are people young and old whose basic needs are not being met but somehow the priority is playgrounds.

I paid for my medicare too, and I pay for public schools. Why should I pay for an elaborate playground in my library? We're talking what's necessary and what isn't. Maybe if taxes start paying for some home care for the elderly I'll think differently.

This tool is my favorite for sock knitting. You put the round part into the heel and then you can measure how long the foot of the sock is. I knit a lot of socks and this has really come in handy so much better than using a tape measure or ruler

I was a big reader when I was a kid, much to the consternation of my parents who thought I should be playing outside all the time. At 7 I met my best friend. She had a double bed in her room and we would lay there together and just read books for hours. She's still my best friend

This happens all the time in the US too. I cared for an elderly man in VT and all of his care was coordinated by his daughter who lived in Portland Oregon. One of her brothers lived next door to the father the other lived down the street.

Typically it's illegal to film people without their permission ONLY when those people are in a private space. If you are in a public space you have no expectation of privacy. That's why you can film at a local festival knowing that there's no way to avoid filming strangers.

I totally agree that most of us don't have that extra cash. I will say if you have the good fortune of having a 401k at your job take advantage of it. It's a tax break and once you get to be my age you'll be glad you set something aside. But I know not everyone can do that.

Is it really healthy for diabetics to try to eat only one meal a day? My only experience is with an elderly neighbor who was eating very irregularly and would sometimes pass out. Shouldn't she be eating reasonable meals several times a day?

I have some older neighbors who leave multicolored lights outlining their front porch on all year round. Even in spring and summer, if I'm looking out at night it warms my heart to see those lights. They feel hopeful.
