My primary school gave out awards to those who had 100% (or near enough) attendance. As a 5 y/o, I was undergoing chemo for cancer: I kept my attendance as high as possible — I even attended school the day after having my eye removed. I remember being so upset come award time.
My daughter doesn’t want to go to school today because all the children with perfect attendance and “good attitudes” get ice cream and she never does even though she “tries”.
