Dear Cosyne Community,
Last week, An Wu, a postdoc in the Komiyama lab at UCSD
who presented at this year’s meeting, has been reported missing. Our current information is that after Cosyne, she stayed at a building that burnt down in fire in Old Montreal.

Our last spotlight 🔦 of the day is the WONDERFUL Leslie Weekes!
This is her 8th Cosyne😱 & her 1st was in Snowbird when they were setting off avalanches👀 so folks were stuck for 2 days!! But it felt like living in a snowglobe❄️
If you see her thank her for all her hard work!!

His 1st cosyne was THE 1st cosyne🤓We even have a 📸of his poster from 2004 - in fact you’ve all already seen it! 👀👇
He’s been involved in organizing since 2010 and feels that science is very similar but now people care more about AI

main meeting! First keynote: Srdjan Ostojic's low-rank multi-population RNN analysis reduces the complexity and makes it interpretable.
We have been supporting the efforts to search for An, and have been in contact with her family, her lab, and the local authorities.
Our thoughts are with An’s family and colleagues.

Day 4 Spotlight🔦from EC Anne-Marie Oswald
She hopes attendees are inspired to think differently & were compelled to pull out their📒at least once!
This should be easy as Cosyne's single track nature intentionally forces experimental & computational cross-talk
Historically, the instructions for
@CosyneMeeting
abstracts have been a bit vague/. As they involved a fair bit of "soft skill" -as the numbers became more competitive- the process favoured those on the *in*. We tried to change that w/ more detailed tips
@CosyneMeeting
there is (for the first time I think - but don’t quote me) a research beyond academia panel! This reflects the changing tides in neuroscience and neuroengineering! Looking forward to see what

If you are preparing to travel for CoSyNe, please make sure you have checked the most up-to-date rules regarding negative test and vaccination requirements when traveling to Portugal from your home country!
We do not expect speakers to present virtually however. While it is true that many conferences of the future will be fully virtual, or hybrid, we believe that some in-person experience should and will survive. We are aiming for COSYNE to be one of those valuable in-person events.
Vaccination levels in Portugal are the highest in the world & levels within the scientific community are even higher so we are in a good starting position. Of course, the pandemic has proven to be anything but predictable. We will work with the evolving situation the best we can.
