I miss seeing wonderful geology of my home state in the new place. AZGS needs to bring content over to Bluesky!

Marvelous ‘cut & fill’ feature exposed along US 191 in Clifton, AZ. Older fluvial deposit was removed and filled by much coarser (including boulders), matrix-supported debris-flow. The cut & fill structure is roughly 100 ft in length with ~ 20 ft of coarse fill. ( 5 Oct 2024)

In ascending order, Coconino, Toroweap, & Kaibab. Cliff dwellings in the Toroweap and Kaibab ls. Last pic shows whopping big (20-30 ft tall?) cross strata preserved from Permian-aged dunes. Love Arizona 🏜️💕

Yeah, I’m a bit stereotypical geology looking here. But it’s sunny and hot! And look at these fossils/facies!

Two of these three students have never experienced camping! And oh my gosh, rain for the last two hours just now cleared and we’ve successfully set up tents in the most glorious light. Hallelujah ⛺️
