🚨Flash flood potential We are advising visitors to leave the Upper Sabino Canyon. The NWS Tucson is issuing a weather warning for the area. Marshall Gulch is currently running above the 8ft mark. The Crawler will be switching to their high water tour for the day.

CNF & LE express their appreciation to everyone who provided tips about the identity of the suspect for the Molino 2 Wildfire. Investigators were able to properly identify, locate, & interview the responsible individual. The case is now referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

5:15 PM rescue of 21 adults, 3 children, & 1 infant Bear Canyon Pima County SAR, Tucson Fire - Rosemont and Pima Stations (engine 7 and ladder 4), & the Coronado NF worked together to perform a ladder rescue over the low water crossing. Great teamwork made this rescue happen.

A pair of mountain lions, likely both sub-adult and possibly siblings, were caught on a game camera with their meal. A little while later, a couple of coyotes came in to clean up what was left. Sabino Canyon is mountain lion habitat. More info:

This weekend’s rains have many washes and canyons flowing throughout the Sky Islands. Lake levels in Pena Blanca and Parker Canyon have also been given a boost. Here’s a video of Sabino Canyon on Sunday morning when flows were near their peak.

Snow welcomed staff and visitors to Sabino Canyon in the Santa Catalina Ranger District this morning, 1/23/2023. While it didn't last long, it was a unique and beautiful sight. Due to water across the bridges and roads, the High Water Tour will be the only tour available today.

This was a recent scene at the Babad Do'ag Vista this summer. This overflowing garbage can is of the bearproof variety that only works when the lid is latched. Any animal or even the wind can distribute the trash when left like this. #leavenotrace

7/2/2023 Beehive Fire - From the city of Arivaca residents and visitors are able to see the fire creeping across the landscape in the distance. The fire is more visible as the sun sets, but is being managed by the Type 3 Team. There is no immediate threat to any structures.

In five days, 10 Forest Service tree climbers collected approximately 28,500 Douglas-fir cones to help ensure the future health of the Coronado National Forest. These seeds will be stored at Lucky Peak Nursery until needed for reforestation after a wildfire.

One harmless native bee species of the Sonoran Desert is the Cactus bee. You might see thousands of pencil-width holes with little mud chimneys in a Cactus bee community. Cactus bees mainly pollinate cholla, prickly pear, and saguaro cacti.

The Safford Ranger District is advising no travel on Mt. Graham today(2/22) and tomorrow(2/23). The weather forecast predicts wind gust up to 70 mph with snow accumulation of 12 to 18 inches. The Mount Graham International Observatory has also reported large boulders on the roads

Full suppression efforts are in place at the 455 acre Middle March Fire reported on Sunday, April 10 in the Douglass Ranger District on the Dragoon Mountains. The fire is currently not threatening any structures or other resource values. Fire investigators are on the scene.

When you're hiking keep your eyes open for the Regal Horned Lizards, 1 of 7 that call the Forest home. The back of its head resembles a royal crown. Make sure you don’t get too close, it can shoot blood out of their eyes up to 3ft.

On May 19, 4 fire brigades from Mexico completed Firefighter Training and Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior in Agua Prieta, Sonora. The curriculum was adopted from NWCG and funded by and agreement with USFS and DOD Northcom, taught by the Mexican Forest Service.

The YLE Prescribed Burn is using aerial ignition to apply fire to the landscape. The plastic spheres, or “ping pong balls", contain potassium permanganate injected with ethylene glycol before being dispensed towards the ground—resulting fires then burn across the landscape.

Our fantastic Recreation Crew completed a project at the Bear Wallow protecting an important riparian ecosystem. The crew removed old, ineffective vehicle barriers and replaced them with more effective, visually pleasing wooden posts which will keep vehicles off the meadow.

Update: 6/16/2023 7:41 PM Oak Wildfire Road closed on SR-83 Northbound near Santa Rita Rd (MP 34). Rd closed on SR-83 Southbound near E Sahuarita Rd (MP 53). Type 3 IC: Darrel Howell, Nogales RD ~ 5,500 acres HWY 83 will be closed throughout the night & at least tomorrow morning.

The Santa Catalina RD plans to conduct postponed prescribed pile burn activities tomorrow, January 5, 2022. The 10 acres of hand piles are located in the Marshall Gulch project area, 1/2 mile from the town of Summerhaven.

Trail report for the Santa Catalina Ranger District: Cathedral Rock Trail #26 Over 2 weeks, miles of oak and New Mexico Locust stalks were cut back, dozens of trees trimmed, and over a thousand feet of tread restored. This beautiful trail is now passable and ready to be enjoyed
