Contra Costa County Fire Protection District provides fire and emergency medical services to more than a million people in and around it's 553-sq. mile area.
Slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles. Truck 1 was struck by a Tesla while blocking I-680 lanes from a previous accident. Driver pronounced dead on-scene; passenger was extricated & transported to hospital. Four firefighters also transported for evaluation.
Con Fire took delivery of two electric trucks from

today, the first green vehicles in our fleet. They will be utilized in our training division and fire prevention bureau. We are committed to preserving life, property and the environment for the communities we serve.
Between 7 pm & midnight, Con Fire responded to 67 fires, with the peak in the 9 pm hour when crews responded to 30. In all, 10 structure, 27 veg & other exterior fires. 16 fireworks caused. In spite of dozens of structures threatened, not a single home was lost.

Lightning this morning at the ConFire training tower in Concord. We responded to several fires ignited by lightning, pre-positioned crews on-duty last night and additional staffing retained, EOC/DOC activated.
Nine exterior & vegetation fires currently burning across District. Unprecedented number of fires has prompted Con Fire to form a third Task Force of 5 apparatus & crews. In 9 & 10 pm hours, Con Fire has responded to 37 grass & exterior fires & 5 structure fires.

Working in coord with crews on the ground, Con Air 1 & EBRPD Eagle 7 this evening dropped water from the air to stop a fire burning in very difficult terrain in the Moraga Hills. Unchecked & with unfavorable weather conditions, the fire could have threatened Moraga & Danville.

ConFire dispatched to an EMS call in Antioch at 9pm tonight. While on scene a drive-by shooting occurred. A firefighter and EMS employee were struck by the gun fire. Both were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Antioch PD investigating.

Flags fly at half staff at Con Fire today in memory of the tragic loss of Capt. Matt Burton & Engineer Scott Desmond who died 13 years ago trying to save a couple in a house fire not far from Fire Station 70, in San Pablo. It has been 13 years but they are not forgotten.

Thanks to local agency pre-positioning of fire resources in anticipation of today's Red Flag conditions, Strike Team XCC 2329C is quickly en route to assist with the four-alarm vegetation fire burning in Solano County south of Travis AFB.
Water now flowing into Marsh Fire burn area by Contra Costa Water District and Con Fire working with the property owner to bring more pumps online to increase flow. It's estimated millions of gallons of water will be needed, and up to a week, to mitigate the smoke.

Engine 3 made a quick attack on a vegetation fire in Rossmoor. Engine 315 assisted in checking for hot spots. The fire started under a power poll and several buildings are currently without power. PG&E is on-scene to restore power. All Con Fire units are now clear.
Good progress is being made on extinguishing the Marsh fire with multiple pumps added overnight. Lower elevations filling in well. Over next days, water expected to fill in voids deep in peat ground.

Con Fire has ended flooding today that has, for 7 days, with help from CC Water Dist. & the property owner, put some 200 M gallons of water on the Marsh peat fire in Pittsburg. No apparent hotspots or smoke remain, though we continue to monitor for flareups.

Con Air 1, recently certified for air firefighting, dropped water on a grassfire in Antioch this afternoon for the first time in CCC. With Con Air 1 support, fire was held to 2.5 acres & did not threaten structures. Con Air 1 & 2 air ambulances are part of our REACH partnership.

Con Fire deployed 2 engines to the Caldor fire near S. Lake Tahoe yesterday with 1 engine from El Cerrito Fire. Led by a Con Fire chief officer; the task force consists of 13 firefighters. A small part of a massive response to protect the city -- more than 400 engines in all.
