In football, it is not just about changing direction quickly and proficiently but it is also about the ability to recognise & react accordingly. Dr Young unpacks the research on agility actions & how to train them (physically, technically & cognitively)

The topic I’m covering @footballmed will hopefully underpin a large number of other sessions, as it will detail the intensification of match demands in both domestic & international competitions across the men’s and women’s game. #ISOK25

Coming Soon! Interested in developing agility in your players? Then tune into this session when we release this on the FIFA website. Warren Young covers how you can develop all facets of agility (e.g. physical, technical & cognitive). Our Q&A delved very deep into this subject.

Always fascinated by the scatter between match running performances and physical tests, especially the complexities around the associations. One of my favourite papers here on reactive repeated intense actions by Dr Michele Di Mascio See below for paper:

Are declines in match running performance indicative of fatigue (reduced glycogen/CP or acidosis/K+ accumulation? Alternatively, do players employing conscious/subconscious pacing strategies during matches or are tactics the key? Always complex! See below:

Variation in match demands within and between positions is especially large due to a multitude of interplaying contextual factors. This makes it challenging to interpret and especially when trying translate to training recommendations. See Paper below.
