HORROR MOVIE by
@paulGtremblay
is thrilling, fun and engaging. It’s got some moments that i’ll think about for a long time. I love how Tremblay uses narrative voice and always tries to do something unique. Quickly becoming one of my favourite writers.
The shining book this week has to be THE ULTIMATES
#1
. This book feels timely and momentous in the greatest way possible. This is going to be a fucking brilliant run.
Well… time to officially announce, I suppose!
I’ve started work as a writer with
@comicsbeat
!!
The blog won’t be going anywhere - but I hope you guys check out my other stuff too!
One of my favorite things about Daredevil is that almost every run is building off the last. Bendis’ run ends with Matt in Jail, Brubaker picks up with that immediately, etc
Personally, I never liked the "toys back in the box" approach a lot of creators do. Good or bad, runs for long established characters like Spider-Man should bleed into one another. The books shouldn't feel like "ok shut up my time to write" each run but "yes and".
Volume 8 of SUNSTONE by
@stjepansejic
is my favourite book of the series so far. Quietly devastating, beautifully human and realistic. Left me a bundle of palpable feelings, both good and bad, and that’s what art is all about.
I’ve officially finished my university essay on 20th CENTURY MEN. After the last two weeks of pouring over every page, I can’t help but feel even more that it’s the best comic of the 2020s yet.
@DenizCamp
and
@StipanMorian
have created a flat out masterpiece.
THE SWAMP THING by
@therightram
and Mike Perkins is nothing less than a masterpiece. Perfect comics. Horror, heart, myth and hope combined into one exceptionally haunting and beautiful saga. I missed out not reading this for so long.
FINE PRINT VOLUME 2 by
@stjepansejic
continues to show how fantastically talented a storyteller he is, and how good this series is shaping up to be. Stellar artwork, fantastic writing and lots of heart and horniness. Cannot wait for more

@RobertSecundus
To elaborate, imagine book companies letting a book go out of print even if it’s successful (it becomes completely inaccessible legally) THEN proceed to make the new version the only one available (with the significant changes you mentioned)
@serinigalini
I will shout this from the hill tops until I die but Rebirth’s ending is supposed to make you *feel*. It’s not about the lore or the fan theories, it’s about making you feel the loss.
I just reread MOTOR GIRL by
@TerryMooreArt
(preparing for the end of the month signing!) and I cried just as much as before. More people need to read this book!!
I’ve been reading SHADE THE CHANGING MAN by
@1PeterMilligan
and
@ShadeX6
and wow. It’s such a travesty this book doesn’t have oversized hardcover editions: The artwork is gorgeous and the text is energetic and psychedelic awesomeness.
Also, the preview for THE QUEEN AND THE WOODBORN looks brilliant and I already have a gut instinct it may become my favorite work of his. Just totally up my alley.
New blog post, everyone! Today, we are talking about one of the most incredible and important comics of the decade, 20th CENTURY MEN by
@DenizCamp
and
@StipanMorian
!
It is positively shameful that this ‘85 years of marvel’ celebration is almost exclusively movies from the past 15 years and not decades of comics prior to that.
The reason they’re selling so well is because they’re $10 instead of the usual price of a trade paperback comic which is around $25
Almost like the price of comics is way too high and that’s been the primary problem for people getting into comics the entire time
I won’t lie, re-reading SWORD OF AZRAEL by
@DanPGWatters
and
@NikolaCizmesija
again whilst listening to Opeth was one of the best decisions i’ve made this week.
@comicskirby
I remember when the horrible comicsgate crowd tried to co-opt him and his widow said under no uncertain terms: no, he wouldn’t like you at all
@ryanhollinger
continues to be one of the best youtubers out. I’ve discovered so many horror films from it it’s kind of insane at this point, and his videos are so well made and addicting I even find myself rewatching my favourites.
Since I'm thinking about Men's mental health right now, here are some comics that helped me through some bad times, either helping me realize I'm not alone or that I'm capable of more than I think. Feel free to share some comics that helped you, too!
Hey folks. I’m back at University, full swing into my third year of my degree. This means i’ll be a bit less prolific with my output. Hope y’all understand.
You know, just when I think they’ve done all they can, they surprise me even more. Ed Brubaker,
@seanpphillips
and
@ThatJPhillips
, hitting it out the park every single time.
Review incoming? Maybe? If i’m allowed to do that. Not sure how it works.
I got to review THE MOON IS FOLLOWING US by
@danielwarrenart
and
@rileyrossmo1
this week - and I cannot state enough how much I love this book. Check it out!
@juni_ba
I think a lot of stuff is turning to denying the atrocities of the past instead of depicting them in order to get around ‘depiction is endorsement’ thought processes
Deniz, Stipan and Aditya have done absolutely magical work here and have every right to plug it constantly.
Like entirely seriously , I think Issue
#4
of 20th Century Men alone is one of the best usages of the comics medium i’ve ever seen.
Please forgive the constant plugs, but 20th Century Men is the best book I've been a part of. It's the book that got me the Ultimates, and the book that's most similar to it (especially issue 2). Available in comic shops, bookstores, and all the major online chains!
ZATANNA: BRING DOWN THE HOUSE by
@marikotamaki
and
@javiercaster
is the Zatanna book i’ve been waiting for since I was a kid. It bounces off the page with energy and love. I adore it already.
Ram V has revealed Scott and Barda daughter name to be Olivia Free
Check out The New Gods

on Dec 18th and also this recent interview of Ram V with

If I was head of DC, this is the game plan.
- Animal Man gets an ongoing that no one can cancel for at least 50 issues
- Put all of Shade The Changing Man in trades
That’s it. I’d quit after that.
I’m so glad that people are talking about Jonathan Groff, because his performance in MINDHUNTER is nothing less than incredible. One of my favorite TV characters ever, a character on the road to hell, paved with good intentions.
Hey folks! Sorry for the wait, but I'm finally back with a new blog post! This time it's on Reckless by Ed Brubaker,
@seanpphillips
and
@ThatJPhillips
! Check it out!
As 2023 comes to an end, I wanted to shout out some people who made the first year of my blog better and brought joy to this website.
First off:
@CBCCPodcast
and
@GailSimone
, who both motivated me to take the blog seriously and keep going with it.

This bit from a
@paulGtremblay
interview with
@FANGORIA
really stuck with me since I read it.
I’ve always thought that the writing community is one of the best parts of being a writer. Here’s hoping we can, together, be the change we want to see.
Hi
#WritingCommmunity
- i’ve seen people introduce themselves so here’s my turn.
I’m Jared! I write horror and fantasy fiction, and have a couple published short stories. I’m also a comics journalist, and write recommendations and conduct interviews. Nice to meet you all!
DOOM
#1
by
@sanfordgreene
and Jonathan Hickman is stellar. A fantastic story emblematic of what I adore about Doom as a character. It’s always lovely to see him and Valeria in a comic together too!!
