I understand the value ID camps have to help w/ funding the program for gear/travel/budget or used as a real recruiting tool to find players. But lying to players saying that you’ve watched them play/ seen their video when you haven’t just to generate camp numbers is just wrong

Too many uneducated coaches are in charge of “leading” our youth. I am not blaming the coach, as ‘you don’t know, what you don’t know’. But people in charge / overseeing youth players NEED to be better for the safety, well being & joy of our kids. 4 miles for what? 🤷♂️🤦♂️

I’ll get heat for this, but going from playing at a high level to immediately coaching at a high level isn’t linear. Yes, knowledge & experience is invaluable, but actually being able to TEACH, relay info, lead, communicate different learning styles, & coach is entirely different

So many aspects of youth sport is broken, it is infuriating. Youth clubs advertise a model around being ‘elite’ & the false promise of kids becoming a part of the fraction of a % that ‘make it’. All of this instead of focusing on the 99% & everything else that ACTUALLY MATTERS.

Youth soccer is a lot of kids not trusting themselves in possession/not wanting to be the player who makes a mistake. We must encourage our players to be confident, willing to make mistakes & support them in the process. I don’t care what league/level, coaches need to do better.

D1 or bust mentality puts many aspiring soccer college players at a disadvantage in the recruiting process by ‘waiting’ to be recruited & thinking that D1 is the best level/option. Not all D1 are equal! Schools at NCAA D3, D2, NAIA & NJCAA are too overlooked!

I’m very confused. Why am I seeing high school football players posting pictures of them in uniform and saying “had a great unofficial visit at ______”.
Is this the thing now? Having a photo shoot with a school before you even commit there? I don’t get it.

I may get heat for this but at the end of the day it is children playing a sport, it’s not that serious! Let the kids express themselves, fail, make mistakes, new friends and most importantly HAVE FUN. It’s why we all started playing in the first place!!!!

Many coaches & people in the profession want nothing to do with parents & complaints they may have. It’s our job as professionals to listen & properly educate them as much as we can. It comes with the territory. If you can’t do that then you’re doing a disservice to your players

At a youth tournament for Columbus Day. Some of the screaming, “coaching”, and decisions by some of these coaches is genuinely embarrassing. I sincerely feel bad for what some of these players have to experience at such a young age. I vow to be the change and educate others.

The first minute of your highlight video MUST be your BEST clips. The video should grab a coaches attention! Just like a movie trailer, if you enjoy the first 30 secs you’re more inclined to watch more. This alone won’t get you recruited but will spark interest

If a player can’t look at you as an owner, manager, staff member or teammate and tell you he 100% wants to be at the club, what does it say about the club to allow that player to stay? IMO no one player is ever bigger than a club and that attitude shouldn’t be tolerated

I played at NCAA D1, D3 & NJCAA, & coached at NCAA D3 and D1. I could name plenty of schools at the ‘lower levels’ with better facilities, academics and players than the ones I played and coached at. If you really want to be a college soccer player, you MUST do your research!

When in reality it’s mentorship, being a role model, learning from failures, teaching life lessons, creating bonds & relationships & tying shoes when it’s too cold out.

Seeing a lot of athletes tweet they are in the transfer portal & encouraging coaches to reach out to them. This is not enough to get noticed by programs, coaches aren’t going to scour Twitter & just find you. This process takes TIME & EFFORT. Do your research & reach out yourself

Youth clubs claiming they are a ‘club’ & together, when in reality they treat their players like a number. A proper club knows and cares for every player in the program. They don’t ‘cut’ them during a tryout period and give them no rhyme or reason to why it has been done.

Some laziness, yes. But I believe a lot is lack of knowledge or education unfortunately. Many coaches qualification to be on the sideline is ‘I used to play or be good at this.’ That’s not enough to coach and oversee the wellbeing/development of children.

Not being able to head the ball and the build out line absolutely drive me insane. Understand the theory behind the breakout line but I’ve seen way too many players immensely struggle to transition when moving away from it and being confronted with pressure when PLOTB.
