Hearing from other High School Coaches that some Travel Ball coaches telling kids not to play for their High School Baseball Team. This is my 10th year being a head varsity baseball coach and I never heard such a thing! Kids play for your High School and battle for a State
HEY Travel Baseball Tournaments - NO 8 AM Games Please. Also, 2 games in one day is just plenty, there is no need to fit a 3rd game in. And how about No more gate fees and No more stay to play! Thanks!
What I dislike most about Coaching Youth Travel Baseball over the Summer.
1. 8 AM Games
2. Opposing Teams Parents
3. Walk up music
4. Unqualified Umpires
5. Opposing Coaches who never played past Little League
Dear Parents, Playing time is not PERSONAL, All the High School Coaches I know are just trying to put their best team out there to win baseball games. Sometimes that means your son might not be in the line up, again it's just coaches trying to win baseball games.
Never understood why in the summer H.S. players swing wood bats. For the most part all H.S. teams swing metal and in college you swing metal. So why do they swing wood in the summer?
As a Varsity H.S Head Coach, I just don't put a starting line up together 5 mins before the game. There are a lot of factors that go into it. My job is to put the best starting 9 out there for that one game, it doesn't mean the line up won't change the following game, but for
Saw a H.S. Kid on Instagram run 10 feet and throw the ball as hard as he can into a net at 90 MPH and then fall down. Figured I would look up his current H.S. Stats to see how he pitches. Currently 15 walks in 4 innings. If you cant throw the ball for strikes does it really
Baseball is not meant to play 3 games in a day! Tournaments should really try and stay at 2 games per day per team. Why are we having youth baseball players play so many game per day and weekend?
Had an email from a parent whose son unfortunately did not make one of our 3 High School teams this week. She said her son said the tryouts were fair and run very well. She stated after our player/coach meeting her son now knows what he needs to work on to give him a better
Nothing wrong with Youth Baseball Players taking 3-4 months off and playing another sport and putting their gloves and bats down for a few months and doing something else!
Last night a Coach messaged me & said. "Hi Coach, I'm a new High School Coach on year number 2. "I am starting to think Parents just rather see their son play and can careless if the team wins or not as long as their kid is playing. Was wondering have you ever experienced this?"
Had two calls today from two D1 College Coaches asking about the same player. They BOTH asked is he a good teammate and how is the family! I will always be honest with them, that's how I have built relationships with coaches over the past 17 years.
Parents who only cheer for their player and not other members of the team really blows my mind. Parents are the ones who set the example. Learning to be a Good Teammate starts at home.
At the High School level I'm just looking for pitchers who can throw 2 pitches for a strike & keeps walks down. If that happens you're gonna win a lot of High School Baseball Games . A Coach told me once you can't defend a WALK.
I just heard that some parents actually call college coaches about why their kid is not playing! How can this even be possible? That just blows my mind! 🤦
As a High School Baseball Coach, you will realize that no matter how well you prepare, plan and execute, there is always going to be people in the stands second guessing you. 99% never played or coached at the Level you have, so do the best you can and don't let it get to you!
I don't understand why parents in any sport think their son/daughter is owed playing time! 99% of issues is always about playing time! I know for me the best players that day will be in the starting line up!
As a High School Coach I just can't justify throwing a pitcher 90-100 pitches in the beginning of the season. Our starting pitchers will throw no more than 50-59 pitches in the first couple weeks. We build up gradually, especially being in the Northeast with terrible weather!
Playing time isn't personal, it's about playing the right players at the right time to get the job done. If an underclassman is better than a senior, there is no reason why that underclassman shouldn't start. I am sure most of my H.S. Coaching Colleagues would agree.
It's amazing to me that I see opposing High School players making fun of committed D1 Baseball players when they make an error during a game or strikeout! Most of the time these players talking are players that haven't left the bench all game.
To all the youth players out there in 7th/8th grade be able to play multiple positions because when you get to High School there is no guarantee your going to be playing the same position you have been playing in travel baseball. Play Multiple positions!
Nothing surprises me anymore. Yesterday a 13u catcher, catches game 1 then pitches 60 pitches Game 2. Then same day I see another game where a 14u catcher, catches game 1 then pitches 65 pitches! Coaches what are you even thinking! This is when you find a new team!
Had a player hit a pop up in the field and he jogged to first base. When he got there I said you need to run every ball out. His response, Major League Baseball players don't. What would you other coaches out there say? FYI the SS dropped the ball on this play as well.
When I go to one of my kids sporting events, I sit as far away as I possibly can from everyone! Now I don't have to listen to anyone complaining, I can enjoy the game by myself!
When you're at a youth baseball game and you hear parents yelling at their kids to just throw strikes! Do the parents think their kid is trying to walk people? 😂😂😂
Since Parents like to tell Coaches how to do their jobs, maybe Coaches can go to the Parents jobs and tell them how to do there's. Wouldn't that be something!
Youth Baseball players need a break for at least 3-4 months. I Just watched a video of the GM from the KC Royals saying baseball shouldn't be played 12 months a year! I'm sure the haters are gonna disagree but this could be one reason why arm injuries are on the rise each year!
I have talked to many High School Coaches who think today's players are more showcase players instead of players who actually know how to play the game. High metrics is a great tool, but it doesn't mean you're going to be in the starting 9. You still need to produce in the
To all the Youth Tournament Directors out there. PLEASE Stop having teams play 3-4 games in one day, it's absurd and not healthy for players arms! This is one reason why youth arm injuries are the highest they ever been! 2 games is more then enough!
#youthbaseball
Talked to 4 College Coaches recently all about the same player. Two Similar Questions they all asked were. IS HE A GOOD TEAMMATE and HOW IS THE FAMILY?
In 2019, the NCAA did a survey and it showed only 2.2% of High School Baseball Players move onto play Division One Baseball. Let that sink in for a little bit...
I have been a Professional Baseball Scout, College Coach and High School Coach over the last 18 years and I have come to realize the only Radar Gun I believe and trust is my own. Seeing is Believing.
Quote from Dr. Andrews! Kids need at least two months off each year to recover from a specific sport. Preferably, three to four months. Example: youth baseball. For at least two months, preferably three to four months, they don’t need to do any kind of overhead throwing, any kind
If you're the type of Baseball Player that hopes the player your competing with strikes out or makes an error, you should probably switch to a non team sport like Golf!
Youth Parents if your son tells his coach that his arm hurts during a game and the coach responds, "do you think you can throw just one more inning for me?" It's time to find a new coach and a new program! Just saying!
There's no match for the sense of community fostered by high school baseball. When a player puts on that school jersey, they represent something bigger than themselves - An entire community to play for.
Not sure why some of these leagues don’t like
@FoulPoleSports
! They are just keeping it real and giving summer baseball more coverage then it’s ever had! People are so Soft!
As coaches we know 90 percent of parents think their player is the best player on the team. BUT, Sometimes it's very refreshing to hear a Parent say, "I know my son isn't the best player on this team, but I want him on this team to be pushed by the top players!
We have approximately over 100 players trying out this year for our High School program. We are going to take about 50-52 players for 3 teams. Players here's one tip to standout, HUSTLE!
I have a 2024 RHP who will be missing his senior season because of TJ Surgery. 87-89 MPH with plus plus slider! Bulldog on the mound, great teammate and extremely hard worker! DM me if interested....
So we just got roster checked by 5 Star Mafia NY. We are a 13u team playing up in a 14u tournament! To be continued......Championship game starting now.
The amount of Travel Coaches telling kids they are future Power 5 players is just mind blowing. Please give Honest assessments as it can only help the player and the process!
I wonder how many teenage baseball players spend more time on their cell phones and PS5's than practicing the game they love? Try and get off your phone and practice more!
You see alot of baseball players that aren't starting bouncing around from one travel team to another, one high school to another high school and then one college to another college. At some point do you look in the mirror or is it always the programs fault?
They are saying their are a ton more walks this year in College Baseball then ever before. Every Coach loves high Velo guys, but if they cant throw strikes does it really matter? Opinions on why walks are on the rise?
I have had Travel Ball Coaches tell me their pitcher throws a certain speed and then I have used two radar guns to verify and it's 7-8 MPH off. I also know some other H.S. Coaches this happened to as well. To my College Coach followers out there are you seeing this too?
I have always been a Coach that is very offensive, that means sometimes we will sacrifice defense for a more offensive bat in the line up. This is just what I believe in, So, If you HIT, I'll find a place in the line up for you!
Yes you and your parents all want D1, D1 & D1. FYI, there's is something called JUNIOR COLLEGE Baseball which is a very good option as well for some. Oh and YES and they give ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS! Go watch a JC Game in Cali, Arizona, Texas, & Florida where guys on the mound
At the end of day I can't guarantee playing time to any player on my High School Team. What I can do is guarantee each player will be treated with RESPECT and FAIRNESS by myself and my coaching staff!
You see a lot of players posting their high Exit Velo's. But you then see them hit .200 or less during the season with a lot of strikeouts. Are we looking for the right thing as coaches or have these metrics that we all look at just got completely out of control?
Pitchers Listen to Your Arm, NO ONE knows your Arm Better than you. If you feel any pain or discomfort, it’s important to take a break & allow your arm to recover. The most common cause of arm injuries is overuse. Ignoring pain or throwing through discomfort can lead to more
Even after the roster check and birth certificate checks. SBA Northeast 13U takes down 5 Star Mafia 14U NY in the 14U Championship! Current record now for this season is 37-4.
FINAL: Southington 2 Windsor 0. Southington completes their perfect regular season with a 20-0 record and will host a game on Tuesday in the first round of the CCC Tournament.

Life is way too short to care about what other people think that don't have any importance in your life whatsoever. Bottom line Family and Close Friends are what matter.
H.S. Players that think you are going to play at a Power 5 school, Please watch a game! Look at the size of the players and their strength. The game is changing and getting harder every year!
25-0 and I'm on my way to the State Semi Final Game. They had pressure all year long not to lose a game, now it's game 26, nothing changes! Let's get it done!
Freshmen just entering the portal. There's nothing wrong with going to a Junior College - Work Hard and Dominate at the JC level and then the D1/D2 offers will come back! I think some players aren't getting enough good advice out there! Good Luck!
Want to be a great hitter, going to a hitting lesson once a week and doing nothing in between just isn't going to be enough! Don't be out worked and don't be lazy!
I think if travel organizations just worried about themselves and not what other organizations are doing, there could possibly be less drama on the travel baseball circuit!
Former All State High School player of mine Jackson Rusiecki (Outfielder) just entered the portal and is leaving UNC-Chapel Hill. Great Player and Person. Majoring in Biomedical Engineering! DM for more info. Looking for D1, D2 or D3 place to play.
If Parents don't hold their kids responsible for their actions, how does that work for a Coach? Doesn't work to well, really need the support at home to make a difference.
