8+8+8 = long term growth
Each day we choose to get better or worse - we never stay the same.
In order to consistently improve, we must find balance in everything we do!
Always hear kids say “1v1 me”. 1v1 yourself. What does your 1v1 look like? It’s not your opponents you often need to worry about. What to do better? - - - first look within
If you want to be great you can’t get tired of doing all the little things right each and every day. Be willing to adapt - but be prepared ro dominate the details.
Are you interested or committed?
Most will claim they are ‘committed’, but their actions show otherwise. You can’t sit on the fence of success. You find a way to make things happen by practicing discipline every day
Actions over words. Two sayings that never seem to cut it for me - ‘my bad’ & ‘I’m sorry’. If you are wise enough to acknowledge a mistake, you’re certainly intelligent enough to fix it. The choice is yours to make.
‘My Bad’ will get you beat. Everyone makes mistakes. In fact, that’s how we learn. But it’s not about what we say - it’s about what we teach, learn, emphasize and change. If it’s in fact ‘your bad’, make the changes necessary to turn regrets into rewards.
Tough times = tougher people
The tough times are what make everything grow. In the words of Razor Ramon, “Hard work pays off. Dreams come true. Bad times don’t last - but ‘bad’ guys do.”
Many see ‘being tough’ on someone as a negative. In a world full of coddling and entitlement, sometimes your biggest advocates are those that care enough to push you out of your comfort zone. Don’t get made at those who care - be frustrated with those who tolerate mediocrity.
“Wait until I’m a Senior” only exists in your mind.
Age does not = Leadership
Don’t wait. If you show characteristics of a leader, lead now! Your future self will thank you. Incremental Gains = Huge Change
Be thankful for the opportunity to feel pressure. It’s not something that everyone gets to experience. Pressure is a privilege reserved for those who have earned it
Details make the difference and all the little things matter. Never underestimate all the growth that can be made simply by embracing and taking care of all the small details that go into establishing success.
If you want to get better at what you love to do you first must love to do the little things the correct way all the time. In order to climb to the peak of a🗻, you must first be willing to take the first steps at the base. No detail is too small. Everything matters
The old saying, “you get what you put in - and people get what they deserve.”
When the cream rises to the top those who have continuously and consistently worked tend to rise with it. Your habits set the standard
Meet and exceed the Standard. I’ve never been a fan of ‘rules’. You give little kids rules because they lack the maturity to follow directions.
Standards are expectations. You CHOOSE what to do. You’re expected to meet them if you desire a specific result.
If you ain’t seen yours just yet - keep paying The Price. Your time will come. Consistency & hard work pay off for those who realize their growth is THEIR responsibility You choose the price you pay
Talent is a gift. It’s what you do with your talent & the actions you take that determine if you can reach your goals. Dreams don’t care about excuses - goals are achieved through consistent actions!
If you want something, you can’t wait around for something to happen. Force the issue. Get up, get out & Go Get It!
“The 🎣 don’t just jump in the boat” ~Tom Brady
If you want them you have to work to go catch them
You CAN run, but you can’t hide from the results.
Don’t work to avoid the difficulties or quit when things get tough. Part of maturing is establishing the strength to persevere and recognizing that the work you do in the darkness will eventually come to the light in due time
Mental Toughness is not something that comes natural. Allowing people to quit when something gets difficult sets them up for a lifetime of quitting. Teaching them to persevere helps them build a toolbelt to work their way out of any negative situation. Teach resiliency every time
Success is painful. Sometimes as a leader you must put your ego & pride to the side and do what’s best for the greater good of the unit. Too often we get caught up in the noise & decide to shut down or quit. Often, those are the times where you realize our true value.
We live in a instant gratification world - but that doesn’t mean you aren’t growing. Growth doesn’t need to be posted on the daily - it just needs to be made. What really matters is that you are prepared to weather the storm when the clouds come rolling in. Just keep working.
If your name is attached to something, never settle for just being average. From the time your eyes open till the time your head hits the pillow, strive to fight mediocrity. Don’t just be good when you can be great.
If your plan is to get ahead, you have to get used to doing more than what is expected. The minimum Is acceptable to some - but it will never help you become your very best
The opportunities ahead are always greater than the opportunities behind. every day is a new opportunity to outperform your previous standard. Take advantage.
Focus on the things YOU Control! Everyone wants their opinion to be heard, but not every opinion deserves to be valued.
Those who control their own controllables tend to be those who gain the most credibility. In order to properly lead, you must first be able to lead by example
A’s, not B’s.
Why accept a B when you’re capable of earning an A?
Strive to do your best in everything you do! It’s starts with our mindset and the choices we make based on our habits. Don’t accept anything less than your best!
Your circle is either making you the best version of you or they are holding you back. Be very choosy about who surrounds you. The habits that you form will open or close doors for you in the future.
Be careful what we get good at.
You are a product of your actions and the company you keep.
Make sure you’re getting good at qualities, traits & characteristics that HELP you reach your goals
The best predictor of who you’ll become is most often who you hang around. It all begins with genetics, but at the end of the day you adapt to your environment. Make sure it’s a positive one.
The shift is on. Those who can master it quickly find the solutions to the issues. Don’t just name the problem(s) - instead, come with solutions and be about positive change
One of the most universal messages is ‘keep working’. Losing? Keep working. Winning - keep working even harder. Success is borrowed and must be brought back each and every day. There are no elevators to the top of the mountain.
How you do anything is how you’ll do everything
Greatness lies in the smallest of details. Strive to treat everything you do just like The Line. Reach it. Touch it. Cross it. Exceed it. The line is the Standard & The Standard = your results. Strive to go above & beyond the line
👀within at the habits you practice & project. No one is ‘out to get you’.
Evaluate your daily habits. We are a product of what we do consistently. Nobody is sleepin’ on you. If you want more, you have to do more. The eye in the sky does not lie.
Whatever it takes determines what you can potentially make. Competitors compete because that’s what they’ve trained themselves to do through their daily habits and routines
Competition is competition. It doesn’t care. The best encourage you to compete in every facet, under any circumstances, anywhere at anytime. The mental toughness you forge is established through the competition you face. Despite what the soft may say - Choose to compete!
#GoBlue
Accountability is🔑
Teaching young people accountability is one of the most difficult things to do daily. But the alternative is far more difficult in the long run. Consider it a blessing that someone cares enough to hold you accountable.
The non-negotiable(s) of success. Expect effort & demand accountability. When peer-to-peer accountability becomes the norm, success will become the standard
What separates you from the rest?
You can’t talk about “I’m willing to do anything to get better” and then not be willing to do what it takes when it’s inconvenient for you. Prepare to separate by doing what others aren’t always willing to do - remain consistent.
Sacrifice before Success
Sacrifice & work until your good becomes great and your great becomes everything you’ve every wanted. Do t wish for it - work for it!
Teach & Coach for the long game. You pray every day to produce more Winners than wins. We strive to teach positive principles, values & to win at everything we do. The classroom, relationships, weight room, practice field & on game days - but most importantly - life!
Everyone wants to win. But those who have sustained success know that it’s about the standard you set long before you compete under the lights. Your preparation should exceed your competition. Mamba mentality.
R.I.P. Bobby Knight - 1940-2023
Don’t skip the Struggles.
You can’t blaze your own trail to success by avoiding the difficult. Face what you struggle with head on - with conviction and with consistency.
The sweat equity you put in directly determines your output. Embrace the struggle rather than skipping it!
“Can’t plant potato’s one day and expect to eat potato salad the next day.” ~ JH
Attack Each Day! The man who learns from failure & relentlessly pursues success is often the ‘lucky’ one who finds it. Luck is earned through enthusiasm, aggression & intention.
Attack the process
Can’t hide from it - sometimes you just have to get up, get out & find the work. The work is what separates the good from the great & keeps food on our plate. Embrace the work
No hiding from the results.
Kids can lie. Parents can lie. Teachers can lie. Coaches can lie. The truth comes out when the results are measured. You can run but you can’t hide from the work you did or didn’t do. If you want to grow you must WORK and be honest with yourself
‘Good’ &/or ‘Bad’ don’t just happen - we ALLOW them to happen. It takes a TON of work to maintain motivation and keep the eyes on the prize. But it all begins with consistency. Each day we promote consistency & fight complacency to keep our dreams alive and the wolves at bay
The 3 C’s - Choice, Chance & Change.
If you want things to improve for you, you must always be willing to confront the reality of the 3 C’s head on. Can’t hide. Can’t make excuses. Lower your shoulder and drive!
Consistency and Commitment are what allow you to get ahead. If you demonstrate those two characteristics anything becomes achievable. If you can’t embrace those details, hard lessons will be learned. It’s your choices that chart the course.
Take pride in ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you put your name on. But never forget that it’s WE > Me. Pride starts inside - but it comes to fruition when you selflessly dedicate yourself towards the betterment of all.
Gotta give 💯
It may be difficult to always give 100% knowing you will be criticized, ridiculed and critiqued. But just know if you choose to quit, you are guaranteed no return on investment. Winners realize that growth is the goal and every day is a new opportunity to improve.
Leaders teach others to sweep the sheds. Nothing is ‘below me’. Nothing is too small or too unimportant.
It’s not someone else’s responsibility to pick up after you. Do the little things right all the time, and eventually the big things will take care of themself.
What did I do ‘extra’ today?
The very best understand that you can’t do common things and expect uncommon results. it’s the little extra that separates the good from great.
Learn to Outwork Your Potential.
Work ethic isn’t a light switch. It can’t just be toggled on and off. Instead, train yourself to adhere and improve in gradual steps. Expect more by making incremental improvements each day
Some folks have an excuse 4 everything. 1 thing I’ve always found to be true is that those who really want to make something happen, typically do. Those who don’t find an excuse & fight to justify it. You quickly become what you train yourself to be. Find a way or find an excuse
In the words of The Rock, “Know your Role”. Not everyone can be the stud. But everyone’s role is critical and can contribute to the larger success of the unit. Successful programs have lots of program guys/girls who play their role well and bloom where they are planted🌻
The company you keep is🔑.
In the long run the company you keep will determine the success you achieve. Can’t hang around a butter knives and expect to sharpen your blade
YOU are the ‘I’ in WIN! What YOU choose to do every day matters. Choices have consequences - positive & negative. Some buy in. Some make elaborate excuses. But the cream always rises to the top. Those who’ve worked in the dark will always eventually be seen in the light.
You vs You & Adaptability vs Complacency.
Train yourself each and every day to get comfortable being uncomfortable. eradicate complacency & always make growth your goal!
“Who’s Job Is It?”
One of the hardest roles in leadership is determining how to ensure meaning and allocating responsibilities. Everyone must hold up their end of the bargain for Anyone to succeed.
Little things make the big things happen. Over time our small wins turn into huge victories with consistency, experience & persistence. The hard way is often the most rewarding way in the end.
You don’t choose to lead for the title, notoriety or the clout. You lead because that’s your calling. Can’t just be called a ‘coach’, a ‘captain’ or a ‘leader’. If you plan to lead, you must first understand that part of your sacrifice is that Leaders Eat Last
One of the biggest issues I see with young people today - ‘Non-Tryers’. People who have never left their comfort zone and who are scared to fail. Failure isn’t final and it sure isn’t fatal. Learn to embrace the culture of “Trying”, working and improving. We MUST try to grow!
Toughness is taught. Toughness is learned. We’re capable of so much more than what we initially think. Do your very best to become ‘tough’. That mentality will take you past barriers that other simply can’t reach.
