Yesterday I had the huge honour of being elected Mayor of
@Fingalcoco
for the coming year. Less than 6 hours later we welcomed this little guy 😍 into the world
@RotundaHospital
4 weeks earlier than planned! Not your average Friday! Sleep is now needed!

Here's a photo of my folks who've been majorly restricted in every part of their lives for the last year+ enjoying a glass of wine & meal on

outside one of their favourite restaurants. This is a

@Fingalcoco
😍😎
All the 4 year olds left pre school yesterday wearing their
@RSAIreland
provided high vis vests. Important to teach them from a young age that if they get killed by a driver, they share the responsibility.
Sorry lads, your perceived "right" to park illegally doesn't trump the rights of vulnerable road users to infrastructure that aims to protect them from being killed by motorists while riding to school, work, the shops or their place of worship. The cycle lanes on this stretch 1/3
I popped down to Seabury today to wish Philip Walsh, Malahide's biggest celebrity, a happy birthday on behalf of
@Fingalcoco
. He's now the Mayor & I've stepped down! Last I heard the card count was knocking on 3000! Well done all who made today such a special one for Philip 👏🎂
So it's easily 20 years plus since I cycled from A to B anywhere. Last week I travelled to
@Utrecht
with
@IrishCycle
& spent 3 days cycling. Total eye opener. We're 30 years behind the Dutch but we can get there! Mindset change & Local Authority funding needed. Some pics

A huge congrats to the brother on his appointment to cabinet by An Taoiseach
@MichealMartinTD
today. No doubt a tough portfolio, but one I'm confident Darragh can deliver in. The O'Brien clan are immensely proud this evening.
It is the greatest honour of my life to today be appointed as Minister for Housing, Local Government & Heritage by Taoiseach
@MichealMartinTD
. I commit to doing everything I can to tackle and end homelessness, to deliver affordable housing for working people...(1/3)
Delighted to vote in favour this evening of
@Fingalcoco
project in partnership with Glenveigh that will deliver 1200 homes in Ballymastone, Donabate that will include 238 social, 238 affordable as well as cost rental. 31-9 in favour with SF, Soc Dem & left Inds voting against.
@niall_keady
@josephcorr
@FingalSports
God bless your memory Joe! I remember the initial warning now. It obviously would have been difficult for the officials given that several of the players were also dressed as giant foxes 😂
Delighted to hear that the application for injunction to remove the pedestrianisation of New Street taken by a resident of Old Street has been refused. People can continue to enjoy this space while supporting local businesses 😎
@enjoymalahide
@streetsare4ppl
@Fingalcoco
Some people want cars back on this fantastic pedestrianised street!!!
Looking forward to
@Fingalcoco
multi million euro public realm project 😄
#NewStreetForAll
One of the key messages from our Dutch colleagues was that whatever infrastructure you put in will be used - more roads = more cars. Give people the safe infrastructure and they'll choose to cycle or walk. Every new project includes provision for non car mobility
Great to see parklets being put in place in Malahide today ahead of the reopening of outdoor dining next week. This reallocation of space in the village will support local businesses in bringing hundreds of employees off the PUP and back to work.
If the Council is to deliver a truly safe cycling network that will encourage people to opt for sustainable transport modes, we can't leave parts of it unprotected so as to allow previously unenforced illegal parking to continue. 3/3
Incredible to witness school closing time one of the days. Not an SUV to be seen! Barely an increase in traffic. Then a flood of young people of all ages on bikes heading safely home or on to hockey or football training. Felt like I was on another planet!
The two smiles that put a smile on my face 😊 It's been a shitty week and shitty weeks are only amplified by the poison that circulates on here. Dig in. There are better days ahead 💪
I understand that prelim results of New St survey are showing much more balance of opinion within the community. Remarkable given how motivated & vocal the anti pedestrianisation campaign has been. Great news. Cllrs to be briefed next week once all data & feedback fully compiled.
of road have been rendered pretty much useless by illegal parking which was never properly enforced by Gardaí. Hence the need for the bollards &
@Fingalcoco
unanimously adopting parking control by laws that enable our wardens to ticket outside of pay & display areas. 2/3
Important announcement re the establishment of
@Fingalcoco
COVID-19 Community Response Forum to provide non-emergency & non-medical supports to vulnerable members of the community. The forum will coordinate the community wide effort aimed at slowing the spread of the virus.
Not long to go now before the green in Malahide is finished. It'll be a great space for people to enjoy. Delighted to have played a part in delivering this major
@Fingalcoco
investment in the public realm. Creating welcoming spaces in our towns & villages crucial for the future.
We received the sad news this morning that former
@Fingalcoco
Director of Services Mick Lorigan passed away in the care of St Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Rest in peace, Mick.
New Street has so much potential to be a permanent space for people to enjoy. With a bit of investment once a formal decision on its future is taken, this will be a model that will be replicated in other towns and villages in Fingal.
#StreetsAreForPeople
No such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes! Great to spend a few nights down in
@CenterParcsIE
this week. The kids had a ball cycling around the place safely. So much to do. Hope to get back again sometime.

"The current awareness of what is possible should encourage decision makers to create & take bolder & more far reaching mitigation measures, the only question now is whether they have the courage."
Desperately sad news today that our friend & colleague Cllr Freddie Cooper has passed away. Freddie was a true gent and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Deepest condolences to his wife Mary & all his family.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
The boys wishing my Dad a happy 85th tonight over a WhatsApp video call. Covid birthdays are rubbish but he was delighted he got to video call with most of his 19 grandkids today. And a bit of madeira cake in his honour!
Shame on me for wanting more space for people in a village that has become completely dominated by traffic & hostile to any young family that wants to move around on foot. I wish you well Suzanne.
Delighted to cut the ribbon to officially open the Baldoyle to Portmarnock Greenway this morning alongside my Howth-Malahide colleagues. A key piece of infrastructure for safe cycling and walking. Part 1 of a much larger project for the Fingal coastal region 🚲 🛴 🏃♂️
Opening of Baldoyle to Portmarnock Greenway this morning, fronted by Tadhg McDonagh! Formal opening, as the route has been very heavily used during the last few months of pandemic, and is greatly valued. Hopefully plenty more Greenway to come along the entire Fingal coast!
My deepest condolences to all of Mags' family and friends. She was a great colleague that I had the pleasure of serving with for 12 years. I'll be opening an online book of condolences tomorrow so that people can pay their respects.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
Mayor of Fingal Cllr Eoghan O’Brien has led the tributes to former Fingal County Councillor and Mayor Mags Murray who sadly passed away yesterday.
May She Rest In Peace.

A huge thank you for all your support. Been a long few days, but fantastic result to be re-elected to
@Fingalcoco
. I can't thank my brilliant team enough.
Delighted to see that
@Fingalcoco
has been allocated just shy of €3.9 million for cycling projects under the NTA's stimulus fund including €1 million for a cycleway from Seabury to Swords along the estuary.
@DarraghOBrienTD
I hope the SDCC Cllrs have the sense to see through this rubbish. Lucan village has all the attributes to be a great place for people. Currently it's completely dominated by traffic. Traders opposing measures like these are really shooting themselves in the foot!
Myself & Tadhg got a sneak preview of the Casino & Fry Model Railway yesterday evening. A lot of work ongoing getting the displays ready. It's going to be a top class addition to
#Malahide
. I'll have the honour of officially opening this iconic building very soon 🚂
@fingalcoco
Fair warning... Over the next 3 months I'll mainly be tweeting about birds that visit my garden. I did the
#IrishGardenBirdSurvey
for the first time last year and it was really enjoyable. The kids got involved too. Help
@BirdWatchIE
record Irish garden bird trends by taking part!
Fair play to Niamh for speaking out 👏👏 A talented, honest and dedicated person who has been treated disgracefully.
@fiannafailparty
needs to take action, but I won't hold my breath on that. Your friends in Dub Fingal CDC are with you 100%. Toxic behaviour cannot be tolerated.
The darkest few months of my life were spent working for a certain Senator. My confidence, self worth and self esteem completely knocked out of me. Still have some PTSD. Hopefully their new SA doesn't have to endure what I did.
Cracking day for a walk around Malahide Castle & a catch up with Joanie & Pop. Kids hadn't seen them in ages. Plenty of people out safely enjoying one of the jewels in the
@Fingalcoco
crown.
Only a few hours left to get your submissions in in favour of the pedestrianisation of New St.
We need more public realm space in our towns and villages for people to enjoy.
#StreetsAreForPeople
Popped into Malahide Demesne to do a video around the cocooners hours of 13.30 to 15.30 in
@Fingalcoco
parks. Met a lot of people who are delighted with the initiative inc. the Donaldsons from Chalfont, (well) under 70s who've been cocooning for medical reasons. Take a look 👇
@NiamhTraynor
Sorry to hear this Niamh. Shocking behaviour from the Senator. I've no doubt Dublin Fingal CDC will stand fully with you. Action from
@fiannafailparty
HQ & party leadership needed once and for all but I won't hold my breath!
Happy Easter from all

One of the initiatives during my term as Mayor that I'm most proud of is bringing about Ireland's first
#SchoolStreet
alongside
@davestorey18
,
@AndrewNolan5
@GrainneCarroll8
& FCC road safety team. The blueprint by which all new schools should be designed, prioritising 👩👧👦 over 🚘
As children return to school, the School Streets Initiative has resumed in Malahide between 8:30-9:15am & 1pm-2:45pm, Monday to Friday. Free Park & Stride facilities are provided at Bridgefield Car Park, Back Road Car Park and Seabanks Car Park.

It's been a massive honour to serve as Mayor of

over the last 6 months. Thank you to all the community groups, clubs & businesses who work tirelessly to make

to you & Mags. Thanks for all that you & all
@HSELive
are doing for us in these unprecedented times. All of us

are 100% behind you!
I'm going to regret trying to stay up for

victory ✌ Thanks.
At this evening's .
@Fingalcoco
Corporate Policy Group meeting, I was delighted to propose ratification of the PAS recommendation that
@AnnMari92672817
be the new CE of FCC. Unanimous support from the CPG. An exemplary public servant who has worked up from CO level to the top job.
A great day to
@enjoymalahide
today. Fantastic lunch in
@oldstreetdublin
& visit to the green & New St. Brilliant to see so many people supporting local shops, restaurants & pubs. Parklets & outdoor dining spaces v busy. Tough cycle home after that feed!

Fingal
#SchoolStreets
pilot kicks off tomorrow (1st in Ire). No doubt it will take time to bed down but I'm confident it will be hugely positive. We need a big change in how we treat the streets around our schools and if this is successful it will be a model to use elsewhere.
Reminder: The School Streets Initiative is set to begin tomorrow morning Monday 18 November.This initiative is set to improve the safety and well-being of two primary schools in Malahide. More information is available below for residents of the Malahide area.
Last week I was delighted to formally propose the €5.7m public realm scheme for a pedestrianised New Street at last week's meeting of
@Fingalcoco
. The scheme was opposed by a vocal minority but carried by an overwhelming majority in the chamber.
All weekend engagements cancelled 👍
Time to tackle this back garden and get it somewhere near presentable. Number 1 "helping". Number 2 on a watching brief 😊
Oh boy, Malahide deserved a sunny day like today. Please can we have more of it!

It remains the greatest honour of my life to represent & serve my friends & neighbours in the Howth/Malahide ward on
@Fingalcoco
.
I'm out campaigning for your
#1
vote so I can continue to get what's best for our area. In this short video, I outline some of my priorities.
I've deleted earlier video as tonight's Govt announcement changes outlook entirely. I understand that the list of essential services will be published tomorrow. I'll update on
@Fingalcoco
position as soon as info is available. Stay safe & stay well. We'll beat this together 💪
A few thoughts on the new

Environment Climate Action and Active Travel Department. It's a hugely positive & progressive move by
@AnnMari92672817
. Retrofitting of existing infra to make active travel safer and more appealing is one of the key challenges that
I paid a visit to the Casino yesterday morning to see how things are progressing ahead of the official opening. All on track! I'll have the honour of opening this iconic building & model railway on the 21st of January. Can't wait! 🚂🚃 🚂🚃

Sunday was the last day of 20/21
#IrishGardenBirdSurvey
. 20 species recorded. The kids loved helping with it too! Our resident robin has paired up ♥️ Couldn't believe it this morning when 3 redpolls showed up a day late for the survey 🤣 Never even seen 1 before!
@BirdWatchIE
Come on people! This is going to get far worse before it gets better. We need to do everything we can to mitigate against the spread of this virus. Follow the instructions of the people who know what they're talking about. I would take the advice as the bare minimum we should do!
Social distancing applies to all age groups, all people in Ireland.
We need our younger generation to follow social distancing measures to protect their grandparents, parents or family members who may have underlying health conditions.

@roinnslainte
Also love the mindset that changing the priority on a road - "make it a street" is not a downgrade, it's an upgrade! Traders in car dominated areas asking for theirs to be "upgraded" next. Notion that you need a boot to shop local blown away. Baskets & cargo bikes used.
Progress update on the Sutton to Malahide cycle route. A lot of background work already done. Looking forward to seeing this one through.
@DarraghOBrienTD
Boys night in with Lynn away for the night. Buttons & Pom Bears to begin. Now we just need to find the right balance between cartoons and football and we're laughing 😉
It's no fun trying to navigate a kissing gate when you have the kids in a trailer. Had to disconnect it & squeeze through the only way in/out of Holywell park. They stop many people from enjoying our parks & other public spaces &
@Fingalcoco
need to remove them & improve access.
Absolutely shocked to hear this terrible news today. Damien was a lovely, lovely guy whose company I always enjoyed any time I met him. Sincere condolences to his wife, family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
