Heartbreaking afternoon. My profoundly deaf mum who was in Derby Royal took a sudden turn for the worse & died without family at her side. My sister & I lost a precious moment to say goodbye as we tried to find parking. Our heartfelt thanks to the kind nurses for being with her.

Our latest roads round up. More closures after another night of high winds and extremely low temperatures. We're doing all we can to keep the road network operational, but the weather gods are being very cruel. A6 blocked due to fallen tree at Topley Pike.

Folks overwhelmingly didn’t want 20mph zones in their towns. We listened and we respect that.
Our cabinet met today and decided that two Derbyshire towns, Buxton and Long Eaton won’t get blanket 20mph speed limits.

Police have done a remarkable job of protecting the public and preventing what could have been a terrible terrorist attack. It makes the appalling way Bradford police officers were beaten and attacked by drunken louts last night outrageous and undeserved.
