Finally preprinting some work from my postdoc with @gerlame and @adamTford! 🎉 We used an individual-based model to look at how grazers and browsers interact with landscape structure to shape resource heterogeneity.

@NasuaResearch @carlyziter Yes, I agree with all of this. I did a postdoc in Vancouver and was only paid $50k, post-PhD! And as a PI, I only receive $28k/year from NSERC to fund my research program (salaries/equipment/etc). More support is needed from multiple institutions (govt, unis).

@awesome_ama Unfortunately, there are no tuition waivers at SFU as far as I know. It makes the compensation even less competitive.

@SJC_fishy @gkalinkat @EcoInvasions @DenisREALE Yes! I think this is part of the key, but as a new faculty member, I don’t quite have that network yet. One day!

@wishartae @this_is_farah I hope it does too! Thank you for your advocacy on this, I have been following, signing, and amplify. It’s a huge problem across the board.

@LJonasHamberg No offense taken. I was lucky to get a PhD offer in Switzerland and said yes for many reasons - the salary was among them. The compensation is an obvious reason.

@MiluElBarbaro Yes, I hesitated to tweet because I knew how it could be read. It's not that I prefer 🇨🇦 applicants, but I do consider it a potential problem if there are *NO* applicants from within the country. I want to know if it's something to do with me or evidence of issues in Canada.
