I caught up with
#Ashes
hero Jack Leach today.
🔊 Here's the moment he told me Ben Stokes played that match-winning innings using Jack's box...
Full interview in our podcast:
Today I was invited to London by
@ECB_cricket
to receive an award for my cricket coverage in 2019.
Shocked to discover on the day they’d given me two awards! One for journalism, the other for broadcasting.
Amazing day in the House of Lords!😊🏏🏆
“The cider will be flowing in Taunton this evening…”
Not just Taunton! Bath, Bridgwater, Wells, Crewkerne, Minehead, Radstock, Highbridge, Wellington, etc…
Buttler and Bess at the crease.
In between overs I imagine they’re discussing their favourite strength of cheddar cheese, the A303 traffic and which Somerset pub serves the best cider.
#Somersetlads
We won! 🥇
Our little Cricket Show is officially the best on BBC Local Radio!
Thank you so much if you listened, contributed or somehow joined in, we wouldn’t be anywhere without you.
England's spinners, who have shone after their emergence on the tour of India, are likely to find themselves as second choice at their counties.
So what lies ahead for them in the summer?
Brendon McCullum spoke to the TMS Podcast ⤵️
Dragonfly on the Bridgwater and Taunton canal in Somerset. 😊
Taken shortly after my
@bbcsomerset
radio interview with
@CharlieTaylor4
, which airs after 9.30pm tonight.😀
YES BOYS!!!
This team was virtually unstoppable throughout the tournament. Brilliant with the bat, fierce with the ball, fantastic in the field.
Lewis Gregory now holds The Men’s Hundred and T20 Blast trophies as captain!
GET IN!!!
Peter Trego is as much Somerset as cheddar cheese or rough cider.
A man who has given absolutely everything for his club in all formats.
He will be massively missed by fans at Taunton.
“It’s been a fantastic journey. I’ve got so many wonderful memories, but the
@OneDayCup
Final at Lord’s has to stand out. Walking around the ground with the trophy and long-standing teammates such as Hildy was the icing on the cake"
#ThankYouTregs
#WeAreSomerset
Felt very privileged to be one of few people in the ground watching
@SomersetCCC
tonight.
Hope you enjoyed the live stream! Loads of hard work went into it behind the scenes. We’re back on Friday for Birmingham Bears!
In case you missed it, here’s my interview with the Prime Minister 🎙️
He criticises local councils for requesting big tax increases, stands by his joke about trans people during PMQs and explains how his plan for dentistry will work.
👋 A bit of personal news (amidst the normal guff I fill your timelines with).
From mid-September I’ll become the presenter of BBC Radio Somerset’s Breakfast show as Claire Carter steps away from the programme.
It’s no exaggeration to say it’s a dream come true! ☺️
Very sadly, our wonderful listener Effie has died.
She was a charming, witty, clever and kind woman who became a regular guest on my
@bbcsomerset
show in the last few years.
Her daughter Theresa allowed me to visit her before she died, to say a goodbye on behalf of listeners 💔
Feeling quite emotional seeing this image.
Two counties who have lost talented young players in tragic circumstances.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from following and covering cricket, it’s that it’s a family and the support and love goes far beyond any rivalry or game.
For around 40 minutes on Wednesday
@petersiddle403
and I commentated together at
@SomersetCCC
.
He’s a cricket legend and such an interesting and nice guy!
I love my job. Great to meet you Pete 👍🇦🇺
In 2011, I was at Lord’s as a teenage fan supporting Somerset in the CB40 final.
I dreamt of broadcasting from the famous ground.
Tomorrow I’m on
@bbcsomerset
for 2 hours from 9, bringing you build-up to the
@OneDayCup
final.
It’s a a dream come true for this Somerset boy. 🏏
Every single one of the
@SomersetCCC
team played their part in this victory.
From that first Davey wicket to Hildreth’s winning runs, it was a huge team effort. Coaches and other staff all contributed.
My nerves are wrecked, my voice has gone - I’m broken.
Heaven. 🏏🏆
Suggested new noises for crowd sound effects:
- sarcastic “waheyyy” when bowling side have confident lbw shout turned down
- sympathetic “ooof” when replays show batsmen getting hit in painful areas
- “Roooooot” for inevitable England captain milestones

Tonight is my last evening show for
@bbcsomerset
, a show I started in 2018.
I've loved hearing from the people behind so many of Somerset's brilliant community groups!
Listeners have become a family to me and it's a sad day saying goodbye to that. Thanks if you've listened! 😊
Now feels like a good moment to announce that I’ve made a special programme for
@bbcsomerset
about the 2019
@RoyalLondonCup
Final.
I’ll take you back to that warm May day when Somerset won their first major trophy since 2005.
Boxing Day, 1pm.
Tonight on
@bbcsomerset
’s Cricket Show we hear from
@NicoleHarvey02
🏏
She tells us her incredible story from being at death’s door while pregnant less than a year ago, to playing cricket for Welsh Fire and
@_WesternStorm
this summer.
Hear it at 6pm:
Bishops Hull Cricket Club near Taunton has confirmed one of their players died this morning.
I know the Somerset cricket family will be incredibly supportive, my thoughts go out to everyone impacted by this awful tragedy.
CLUB STATEMENT
Today we learnt of the death of our dear friend and team mate, Barnaby Webber.
Barney was attacked at the early hours of this morning walking home with a friend after a night out on 13/06/2023 and had lost his life.
(1/3)
From October 29th, I’ll start presenting a new show on
@bbcsomerset
!
We’ll cover the brilliant community groups that keep Somerset going. Arts, sports, health and more every weekday from 7-10pm.
Picture of me looking delighted on King Alfred’s Tower for illustrative purposes.
Beautiful, heartbreaking words from Barnaby Webber’s mum, Emma.
She’s a regular guest on BBC Radio Somerset through her work in local arts and it’s incredibly sad to see the pain she and her family are going through.
The mother of Barnaby Webber told the crowd: 'Please hold no hate to any race, colour, sex or religion in your heart... My beautiful boy - you have my, your dad and your brother's heart forever.'
A bit of news:
The Cricket Show on
@bbcsomerset
has been nominated for a national award!
It’s the second time in a row we’ve been nominated in the sport category in the BBC Local Radio Awards, we won silver last year. 🥈

"It's good to have Heather Knight and Anya Shrubsole on OUR team!"

To Derby! Today
@bbcsomerset

Whether we win or not, it’s been an incredible year. Thanks for your support! 🏏👍
Parky 💔
A broadcasting giant who I was lucky enough to meet at Lord’s.
He asked if I was a batter or bowler. I apologised and said that I mostly just talked about the game.
“Nothing wrong with talking” he said with a glint in his eye.
RIP Michael.
Really pleased to become
@bbcsomerset
’s new Sunday Breakfast presenter.
It starts this Sunday from 6am.
I’ve just used my evening show to set everyone’s Alexa to wake them up every Sunday at 6 😂
NEWS: really pleased to say
@bbcsomerset
will be bringing you two hours of build-up and full ball-by-ball coverage of the
@OneDayCup
final this Saturday on all our frequencies! 🏆
Join me at Lord’s from 9am for fab guests, memories of previous finals and all the atmosphere. 🏏
Eddie Byrom on T20 debut scores 50 off 18 balls!
A man who was criticised in the red ball side for scoring too slowly.
Somerset chase 204 with 8 balls to spare
Home.
Which means the 2019 cricket season has finished.
@bbcsomerset
brought you every ball of every
@SomersetCCC
game. We were at sunny Lord’s in May and watched the rain fall in September.
We played our part in one of the sport’s finest summers, thanks for being with us. 🏏
SO EXCITED to be asked to join up with the
@bbctms
team commentating on the
@cricketworldcup
for
@5liveSport
🏏
Loved watching the World Cup as a fan four years ago and I can’t wait to bring that atmosphere to listeners!
Just found out my
@bbcsomerset
show will be going out across the whole of England for a week after Christmas!
Join me on BBC Local Radio stations between Christmas and New Year 🥳
Pic of me ready to spread the word about cider to the nation. 🍎🍺
So excited to be part of the commentary team for the men’s
@T20WorldCup
, which starts tonight! 🏏
I love this tournament, so being part of the
@bbctms
team for it is a huge privilege.
There’ll be more than a few upsets this year as more teams than ever fight for the title 🏆
Delighted to confirm that
@bbctms
has extended the deal with the ICC for another 4 years.
We’ll have commentary on EVERY match in the Men’s
#T20WorldCup
from Sunday where
@englandcricket
are defending champions.
#BBCCricket
Wow!
Ben and I decided to do this commentary as a warm-up for the new season. (For us and the equipment!)
We never expected this response so thank you for watching and listening. 🏏
Very happy to report 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ views on the Somerset v Cardiff MCCU live stream over the past 2 and a half days! 📺
Nobody likes County Cricket though eh? 🤔
Thanks to everyone who tuned in & special mention to
@CharlieTaylor4
for his excellent commentary 👍
#WeAreSomerset
Guest news for tomorrow's Cricket Show on
@bbcsomerset
...
@SomersetCCC
captain
@tomabell1
and legend James Hildreth will be with me in the studio with the
@OneDayCup
trophy! 🏆
The show will be on radio AND Facebook Live video from 7. 📻🎥
Immensely frustrating to lose players to other competitions or to see them sit on the sidelines with England, but Somerset’s youth are a group to be very proud of (and excited about) 🏏
Decimated by call-ups, injuries and covid - this young Somerset squad have been an absolute credit to the Club over the last couple of weeks 👏👏👏
#WeAreSomerset
I am sad to say that
@bbcsomerset
’s Cricket Show is no more.
There have been many changes in BBC Local Radio in the last 12 months, and one of those has been to stop local sports podcasts.
Over 11 years the programme went deep into the world of cricket in Somerset…
