@ZiadMDaoud Agreed. At 2.3% of GDP, US Aid implemented disbursements in 2024 did matter to Jordan's economy. But assuming the Gulf rallies around in opposition to the Gaza proposal, then I'd agree with consensus they can compensate for any cut that matters.
For those focusing on Trump and South Africa, US AID implemented disbursements were $285m or 0.07% of GDP based on my calculations 7 times smaller than the smallest column on this graph (Sierra Leone) Aid suspended to Somalia is 84 times more important. Less of a story I guess

@GlobeEyeNews Not that big a deal for SA. Cutting off US AID to others matters more

So cutting US aid, in sectors like health, will delay this improvement in countries like Somalia, the Central African Republic and others
Musk will succeed in massively cutting government spending .. in Africa. My data suggests US AID flows in 2024 were equivalent to: 93% of Somalia's government revenues, 61% in Sudan, just over 50% in South Sudan and Yemen Really socking it to those bureaucrats

Ah .. CBK gave consensus what it expected on the headline with a 50bp cut, but was more dovish with the 100bp cut in CRR Probably helpful in reducing local yields and should eventually feed through into more lending Also implies CBK confidence in KES
News on IMF talks just before the Central Bank of Kenya decides on interest rates today. Might help justify a bigger cut than the 50bp (to 10.75%) assumed by consensus

That's 38 countries where US disbursements last year were worth 0.5% of GDP or more. Now cut off. The highest ratios are all in the very poorest countries in the world Somalia (2nd highest) is also the first place Islamic State guys have been bombed by Trump. Quite a month

@RyanGirdusky It costs an American $3 a month to support 37 of these countries (I exclude Ukraine). It’s a bargain way to provide food ($0.5bn to South Sudan in 2024) and education to those who need it most. I think Americans would back this

@Cheptum_ I’d recommend seeing out an old Mauritian (financially minded) .. and ask her, or him. I’d guess they say real estate in the capital does well, that investing in your kids pays off, and that assets (bonds or equities) do well too. It’s hard to lose when interest rates fall

Elon Musk says we should be having more kids to save humanity But when it comes to South Sudan or Somalia, where they have a lot of children, closing down USAID seems to be more important
Yes, most of the US aid going to South Sudan does appear to be about food. If only there was a social media site that might let @elonmusk know about USAID and what it's spending money on ..
