@BrodieBz Take this to the bank: moratorium on Visual Separation. Seen this many times (not leading to a midair thankfully) where VS was applied incorrectly and an entire facility (ARTCC in my case) shut it down and retrained everyone, typically a computer-based thing

@CyclonePilot06 @BrodieBz Once they align the audio with the radar track we'll know when PAT saw the CRJ. I have doubts PAT saw a different airplane, just looking at the traffic around. CRJ was on VHF, PAT was on UHF, but ATC was on both. It's obvious as most scanners posting audio are only monitoring VHF

@CyclonePilot06 @BrodieBz What's your take with the news and X people really hammering this "Priority Air Transport" so it must be important? I worked hundreds of PAT flights in my career, they never requested priority, seemed like training flights, and most ATCs didn't even know the "Priority" part

@CyclonePilot06 @BrodieBz My take is that while the UH60 reported the CRJ in sight (while CRJ was in a descending left hand turn) was not anticipating the CRJ to level out (to line up with RWY33). It was nearly a head-on and visual separation was ill advised

@BrodieBz My guess is that UH60 called CRJ in sight as the CRJ was in a descending left turn. It then leveled out lining up with RWY33 which UH60 didn't anticipate. Visual separation is great and all, but it has to be possible/feasible, and these two were nearly head-on (based on radar)

@IfAUSwasReal @liveatc After this post, I found the audio and PAT did ask for visual separation, ATC replied "approved". ATC will take a hit for that incorrect phraseology, but after seeing the ATC radar (not ADSB-based apps) they were nearly head-on and not good candidates for visual separation, IMO

@MenTourPilot Will be interested to see your take. This old controller thinks even if the UH60 saw the CRJ, it may have been when the CRJ was in a descending left turn, then leveled out for RWY33 which the UH60 didn't anticipate. But was too close and almost head-on

@flightradar24 Thanks for this info. I was looking at final leading up to the midair (on your great app), and it looked fairly busy to let a helicopter fly through that final, visual separation or not

@picklesandabun @flightradar24 Exactly. The CRJ was not only in a left turn but descending also. PAT was probably surprised when the CRJ leveled out lining up with RWY33. Visual separation is great and all, but sometimes it's ill advised when it's damn near head-on, which this almost was

@charliekirk11 This looks fake. He uses POTUS account now, this tweet doesn't even show on this accounts timeline.

@charliekirk11 That all being said, someone familiar with that airspace and procedures said those helicopters have a corridor at 100', not 300'. Still early but this will be 80% on the UH60 and 20% on ATC as they didn't use approved phraseology for visual separation and they were nearly head-on

🚨#BREAKING: Shared to me anonymously shows the Playback from official Air Traffic Control radar 📌#Washington | #DC Watch as exclusive playback, sent anonymously by @avgeekjake to Rawsalerst, reveals official Air Traffic Control radar footage displaying the Collision Alert. This alert is not for an imminent collision but serves as a tool to draw heightened attention from the controllers to potential risks. The footage then captures the critical moment when both aircraft collided, emphasizing the urgency of the controllers' split-second decisions. The radar data provides a detailed view of the events leading up to the crash, offering valuable insight into the sequence of actions and how the situation ultimately unfolded

@FoxNews Will you and your guests stop saying the UH60 didn't respond. It did, and it's on the attached audio. The audio you are hearing might be just VHF, military often only uses UHF, which some scanners don't have or monitor. #planecrash
Audio between PAT25 and DCA tower asking if they have the CRJ in sight. Affirms and requests visual separation.
