TPD Clive has progressed to tracking in built up areas and isn’t distracted by pedestrians or other dogs. But today I gave him a surface he hadn’t done before. The intensity & determination of his tracking is phenomenal. He may not be a GSD or Mali but he’d do for me. 👍🌟😎❤️

A proud day for mum Ella as her son PD Gus & handler Noah were crowned the champions at the Force dog trials held over 2 days this week at HQ. PD Albert with John were 2nd & PD Enzo with Ben were 3rd. All 3 teams now go to the Regional PD championships in A&S next year.

I’ve been working with the boys this week on searching for articles off ground level. In windy conditions this can be a problem if the dog indicates on scent because they can be quite some distance away from the article. TPD Clive reliably works to source and indicates

High risk domestic violence suspect ran on seeing police. PD Albert was deployed making light work of the foot chase. The suspect realised he wasn’t going to win and gave up. Albert recognised this and stood off, detaining the male until he was arrested. 1 in custody @_GS_Albert

The Schnauzer gang. 10 dog handling teams from Plymouth, Torquay and Cornwall competed early today to select 4 dog teams to take part in the Force trials. PD Albert & John (R) were first, PD Bert (L) & Kevin came 3rd. Hopefully 8 month old TPD Clive will follow in their footsteps

PD Albert assisted at a domestic incident where the suspect had left over a garden fence. After Albert located the males slippers along the track, Albert tracked around a housing estate and back to the home address where the male was found by Albert hiding in a hedge @_GS_Albert

TPD Clive and his house buddy TPD Odi have completely different tracking styles. Here’s Clive who tracks with a level of drive and determination which is totally off the scale. His huge desire can cause him frustration when he loses the track but at 7 months what a tracker.

The good news is that TPD Clive’s lower canines are no longer hidden below his gums & are developing nicely thanks to Canine dental specialist Tom Williams at Charter vets. My thanks also to the lovely Kim at the Grooming Pad Cranbrook for giving him a quick facial trim today. 👍

I trained PD Albert and PD Bert to bark when locating a hidden article. I did this so when searching at night if I couldn’t see him & he barked I would know he had found something. Some handlers don’t like the bark & so this time I’ve trained TPD Clive to freeze & point.

Congratulations to newly qualified Firearms support dog team John and Police dog Albert. PD Albert is the only operational Giant Schnauzer general purpose PD in the U.K. He is also the first ever Giant Schnauzer to qualify as a Firearms support dog in the U.K. 👏👍❤️Well done

TPD Clive 7 months is a completely different type of tracking dog to TPD Odi. TPD Clive is a canine hurricane who just attacks the track like his life depends on it. I’ve progressed slowly to prevent him from becoming too hectic and I couldn’t be more pleased with his results.

TPD Clive saw Tom the dental specialist at Charter vets yesterday. Tom was very optimistic that if his lower canines continue to grow as they are his biting will be fine. 5 am today took TPD’s Clive, Odi & Ella to Exmouth for a celebratory swim. 🏊♀️ Really calm conditions. 👍🤞

The weeks and weeks I’ve spent on training walks with TPD Clive building his recall & desire to play with me means that despite his urge to meet people and dogs his focus on me over rides all of this.

I was especially proud of TPD Odi at the beach today. He has missed nearly 3 months of environmental exposure because of his leg fracture & so this was a big ask today. The recall work & toy focus we did before his accident was a big help today. Lots more to do but very pleased.

TPD Odi starting the second week of his 3 week program to build up his leg muscles and extending his walks to 30 minutes by week 3. He thinks he is fully fit and can’t understand why I won’t let him free for a charge around.

BUCKLE UP & ENJOY THE RIDE. I’ve only just started tracking in woodland with TPD Clive but you would never have thought it. Next time I will get someone to follow on behind to do the filming otherwise I will be joining TPD Odi with a broken leg.
