After 12 eventful stressful hours, 2 veterinary interventions and a puppy born in my dog van as we returned home from the vets Ella has 9 healthy pups ( 5 boys 4 girls). Mother and pups doing well.
Their last night with mum Ella before they all go on to the next stage of their journey with their puppy walkers tomorrow. I will visit them all next week and our first training session together will be in 4 weeks time. Thanks for watching. 👍
TPD Goose is always getting told off for stealing straw dog off his plant pot and so today she decided to join him. She is one chilled lady for one so energetic.
There was obviously a little chill in the air this morning. My first job in the morning is to give Ella her run then let the pups out while I clean their Den. Today they waited patiently in a group hug.
I thought I would hide around the corner and secretly film them playing in and around their den this evening. Flo (Yellow) clearly had other ideas already showing that nose is always on duty.
The Lockdown G litter have arrived and the G is for Girl power with 8 girls & 2 boys. Mum Ella is fine & has had her supper. All the pups have had a feed. We nearly lost one girl who took an age to revive & breathe but she is now fine.
I’ve had TPD Dino for nearly 5 weeks and I am going to miss him terribly. He sits next to me on guard or waiting for me to play or work with him. He will enjoy life with ex Dog handler Eamon & his wife Karen. I look forward to him returning to me to continue his education.
This was probably the most difficult challenge yet for Ella. Richard took a single leaf and hid it in the woodland. The letter R was written on the leaf to identify the correct leaf. Tracks were put down to stop her tracking to the leaf. She would normally look for an article. 🤪
Here are the 5 boys arriving in Plymouth today and just like the girls yesterday none of them found the journey an issue and all 9 pups assessed as outstanding in every area. Our assessor Graham who has been assessing pups for 50 years says he can’t remember a better litter.
I’ve opened the patio doors to allow the more adventurous ones a bit more freedom. Plus it gives me an early insight into the little characters. The girls ( The 3 degrees ) were way more adventurous than the boys. Find out in my next blog who they are. You’ve probably guessed
Dino may look very cute at the moment but if he turns out anything like his dad seen here training recently then I might need to get Dino a padded suit so that he doesn’t hurt himself.
After a nice break it’s time to get back and make sure everyone is behaving themselves. It was a noisy night last night but now the pups know where to find lunch and warmth ie mum they are all very calm and relaxed.
I’m happy to report that with the exception of Freddy all the other 8 puppies slept through the night. None of them went to the toilet in their Den. Finni here demonstrating she doesn’t need expensive toys.
After a worrying period where I was struggling to switch the pups from mums milk to puppy food I’m pleased to say they now love their puppy meal & minced beef. But they love their goats milk supper more than anything else.
I realise there will be a few people saying ‘ Oh no not another video or post’ so this will be the last one before TPD Jay goes back this evening.
I normally groom him standing up but today he obviously fancied a more leisurely session. He is clearly very used to grooming.
I made a big mistake letting them into the shed to shelter from the rain because I couldn’t get them out again. Banging the wall with a hammer, shaking a plastic sheet above them nothing would distract them. Somehow I don’t think they need an assessment.
Normally when mum is out of the box 6 day old puppies will huddle together but in this heat it’s the opposite. Tomorrow I will use the fan and a linen sheet if it gets hotter. Boys Red, Green, Blue, Purple, Orange. Girls Yellow, Pink, Light blue, fluorescent green.
Yesterday I witnessed first hand Lime green collar making light work of climbing out of the box and she was followed by 2 more of the girls light blue & yellow collars. This is the earliest escape committee we have had
It’s like the aftermath of the battle of the Alamo. Bodies everywhere. It is very warm in the living quarters so they’ve got the freedom of the outside run or the tiled conservatory which is cooler. Freddie (Red) Has got more staying power.
I havnt posted any videos of TPD Goose’s tracking lately because I was getting the impression that apart from the tracking enthusiasts people were becoming bored. She is an extraordinary tracker but for now I will stick to videos of her play. She is the most delightful pup.
The pups are climbing out of the run now and finding their way into the house.
The main offender is Franky but this is Freya who I think Ella has a soft spot for.
Well it’s taken a week and plenty of patience but Ace has finally settled in the house and started to relax. His trust is growing, he is more responsive, he is eating much better and the constant pacing has gone. Great to see. A lovely dog.
After running around the garden all evening after their supper they usually make their own way back to their Den around dusk. Last night 6 of them fell asleep under a sun lounger at the top of the garden and were in no hurry to come inside.
Nothing much to report other than the pups are now very settled, relaxed and content which is great for Ella. Hopefully only a couple more nights sleeping on the sofa next to the whelping box & then back to my comfy bed. 👍
This is the scene back home after their dog school visit today. I’ve enjoyed all of my litters but there is something extra special about this litter. Time will tell how many will become Police dogs but there isn’t one of these pups that I’m not extremely proud to have bred.
Dino is obsessed with jumping and climbing anything that he can or anything that he can’t. With that in mind I made it legal by setting up his own little course. I can honestly say I have never had a puppy as agile as this.
For safety reasons Our puppy walkers are advised not to throw sticks for their dogs or to let them have small balls which they could swallow. TPD Jay has obviously done his own risk assessment and feels carrying a tree doesn’t come under these restrictions.
I won’t know until I assess the litter in 3 weeks time which 2 pups will be coming to us in 4 weeks time but I thought I’d post this little chap anyway.
I think we can safely say that TPD Gerri has a bombproof disposition and is a very special puppy watching these low flying Chinooks today. The G litter are 5 months old today.
Well it’s not exactly a Jamie Oliver establishment but the pups all seem quite happy with the food & service. I am really pleased that they are now in the feeding station. I can keep an eye on the slow eaters & make sure they get what they need.
Mum carrying out her regular roll call. There were 8 of them in the conservatory a few days ago and she became very agitated wanting to go outside. Sure enough there was Fendi (Lime Green) still out in the garden.
It hasn’t taken the pups long to work out what the meal times are and whilst it may not be an orderly queue they are pretty civilised as they wait patiently for their lunch.
My last walk with TPD Albert before his passing out parade today. 19 months together and I will never forget our time together. John now picks up the baton and I wish them both luck. So pleased that he has gone to John knowing that he is excited at the prospect of working him.
Finally able to let the pups out now the water has drained at the front. They loved the tunnels but they definitely over did it because I had to wake them up for supper which is a first.
I think that TPD Goose is going to be a bit darker than mum Ella but there’s no doubt that TPD Goose has the same steely determination drive, and character of mum.
I can’t remember having a pup like Dino that wants to climb anything he can without any fear. Whether you are a fan of the Malinois or not you cannot fail to be impressed with their athleticism and superb construction. To be so agile at 9 weeks is incredible.
We had our rear annex painted white yesterday and the painter said the paint would be completely dry by the morning. This morning RPD Albert was exercising and playing in the garden and when he reappeared this is what I found.
I think we can safely conclude when TPD Franky becomes a Police dog and is sent to a crime scene to track down a fleeing arsonist the Fire fighters will need to turn their hoses off
510 days after being born in our conservatory TPD Goose finally left me today on the next stage of her journey. She was born to work and I couldn’t think of a more deserving handler in Kimmo to take her on. The last time felt like this was dropping my daughter off to university
I’ve spent the day moving a huge pile of soil from one part of the garden to another part of the garden with my spade, wheelbarrow and my 3 little helpers Ella, TPD Albert & TPD Goose. Not easy with TPD Albert constantly trying to get into the wheelbarrow.🤷🏻♂️🙈🤣
TPD Floyd blotted his copy book in the early hours of Thursday morning when he broke out of his crate , went upstairs and jumped on top of puppy walker Simon & woke him up by licking his face. A reinforced crate has resolved the situation & the girls still love him.
Little Fendi is surprised by the window cleaner and says it’s a good job this window is in the way or I’d sort you out. Well maybe next year. She met him later by the front
door and became friends
TPD Floyd has been chasing crows in the local field and so puppy walker Simon has been working on his stay around the crows. So impressive for a 16 week old puppy and a first time puppy walker. He did get a reward for his stay. Well done Simon & TPD Floyd.
Puppy walker Jake hasn’t seen his puppy Bill since he was paired up with his current handler Kevin 4 months ago. I think it took a few seconds before Bill realised it was Jake.
Thanks to everyone for their kind comments about Ella & her pups and I’m glad they have brightened up so many peoples days over the last 8 weeks. Ella is absolutely fine.
Due to a last minute change of circumstances with one of our walkers I now need to find a new puppy walker.
