@annakhachiyan I personally think the public has a right to know if government decision makers are are expressing racist views--which may reflect poorly on the elected government--though I don't think the individual in question should be cancelled.

My biggest problem with this is the implicit vilification of journalists reporting on the expressed political views of public employees. The public has a right to know who is involved in high-level government decisions and what their views are.
Here’s my view: I obviously disagree with some of Elez’s posts, but I don’t think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid’s life. We shouldn’t reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever. So I say bring him back. If he’s a bad dude or a terrible member of the team, fire him for that.

I think the government should ban things (substances, practices, etc.) if and only if there is strong empirical evidence that doing so is in the public interest. There should be a presumption against banning things.
