Some miscellaneous thoughts and opinions on based and native rollups after spending my Sunday afternoon digging in - The vibe I get is that the motivation for creating based rollups is to propose an architecture where a higher slice of value created by the rollup accrues to Ethereum in exchange for greater decentralization and composability - I think it'll be an up-hill battle for based rollups to gain real traction for a couple reasons: 1) intents-based bridging solve our immediate composability problems: token-bridging. I think the L1 composability is cool but on a longer time horizon then the next year or two based on the types of apps I'm currently seeing building on rollups. I could see myself being surprised here, but this is my current belief. 2) reading up on based rollup discourse, based rollups charge higher fees and are more susceptible to aggressive MEV (. Based on my experience, cheap fees and value capture are just too important to rollup teams to give up without strong reasons 3) external narrative around based rollups is unclear and weak. This is definitely changeable. But the fact is that rollups presented a vision of being 10x better than native Ethereum/alt-L1s then zk rollups presented a vision of being 10x better than optimistic rollups. I've never understood why based rollups were really even a thing other than some abstract promise of being more "decentralized". As a cofounder of @Calderaxyz, I consider myself plugged into rollups/scalability but my perception has also been that based rollups are some insider EF/Eth Research thing that probably just won't happen. - I'm not currently the right person to evangelize based rollups, but I'm rooting for them as a technology. I generally think it's a good thing to offer developers tradeoffs and let them pick what makes sense for them. I also think that pushing the most secure, decentralized, and censorship resistant products (alongside UX benefits) is important. If we can't do that, then we're at risk of creating a future where crypto and its adoption is less robust. - The concept of native rollups feels simple and compelling. I can see rollup stacks moving to adopt this (especially Arb and OP). In the future, I buy the idea that even if major chains universally use zk rollup, long-tail chains will use a mixture of optimistic + zk settlement (. In this case, native execution could be the backup mechanism for zk rollups (ie if there's a bug in the zk proof system then someone challenges a proof of an invalid state transition via the native execution fallback) or as better fraud proof system for optimistic rollups than the bisection game - Who knows if/when native rollups will be a thing though... doesn't feel super pressing to tackle tagging @mteamisloading and inviting other based people to hop in and comment on any of this. I'm sure I've gotten stuff wrong and welcome the opportunity to learn

Last week's @RariChain integration wouldn't have been possible w/out the help of one our longest-running partners — @Calderaxyz We worked with the Caldera team on the TEE-based design of our Nitro integration. More details in the post. Go horizontal.
