I was today years old when I realised that Hermogenes, the dodgy Greek merchant who absconds with Caecilius’ loan in @Caecilius_CLC Book 1 Chapter 4, means ‘Born of Hermes’ 😱

This exciting work just goes to show how much there is still to learn - we can't wait to find out what is discovered next! Why not integrate this work into your teaching of CLC Book 1 or maybe do some cross curricular work with your science department? #ArchaeologyIsCool 6/6

The threshold of the entrance hall or ‘fauces’ meaning the ‘jaws’ of the house with a mosaic of a tethered guard dog. Aptly, an early morning shadow resembles a jaw with sharp teeth and mimicks the snarl of the dog. House of Paquius Proculus #Pompeii #MosaicMonday

Finds coming out of a possible Roman bath house in Carlisle. A head of and gem depicting Silvanus and - maybe our favourite - a ring decorated with a rat nibbling a poppy seed. Proof people have been losing things down the drain for millennia!
