My mom and I. A reunion nearly 40 years in the making. For half that time, she was a missing person.
On this National Day for
#TruthAndReconciliation
, I am grateful to have finally reconnected with her, and for the love & support pouring in for us from coast to coast.

In my decade as a journalist, I have been fortunate to share thousands of stories. But this one is mine.
A big thank you to all my
@CTVVancouver
colleagues who helped me find the strength to add my voice to a critically important conversation.

This guy knows CP stories are available to various media outlets as part of a subscription service.
He's playing dumb in an effort to foment anger. Misrepresenting this at a time when journalists in this country are now routinely being swarmed and spit on is reprehensible.
Yes, if doing my job requires me to be near, or in, a crowd of unmasked people refusing to physically distance, I will take extra precautions. Surprising how angry my two masks made some people.

Heading home to Vancouver with a full heart after a very eventful few days in Toronto. Thank you to
@LisaLaFlammeCTV
and the whole team
@CTVNationalNews
for making me feel so welcome & providing a platform to share my family’s story.
My mom was considered
#MMIWG
for two decades before we reconnected last year. To the thousands of Indigenous families across the country mourning their own sisters, daughters and mothers, we see you, we love you, and we feel your heartache.

Surprised my mom with cupcakes on her birthday. Meeting her this year means this is the first time I've ever been able to give her Christmas & birthday gifts...which is important b/c every parent should know just how bad their kid is at wrapping presents 🤣
Canadian Forces have landed in

to help with the flood fight. About 60 soldiers on this flight will sleep in an Aldergrove gym tonight. Tomorrow a.m. they will deploy to the Sumas Prairie where things are dire.

Since sharing a personal story about meeting my mom last year, many people have approached me to ask if I plan to meet the rest of my family. I did and it was amazing. I'm looking forward to continuing this healing journey of connection and discovery 🧡
From Vancouver, it takes the whole day to get to Alert Bay off the northern tip of Vancouver Island. For CTV News reporter Ben Miljure, it’s taken his whole life.
A week ago I met my mom and then sat down with
@LisaLaFlammeCTV
. As the nation debates the optics of what people did on Truth and Reconciliation Day, I encourage you to watch the whole interview in the hopes it reignites a more meaningful conversation.

On the eve of the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I once again feel compelled to add my voice to the important conversations about colonial violence in this country. It's not easy, but it's important. Please watch.

1/ A lot of people have shared versions of this video in support of the guy who interrupted my live hit to yell obscenities b/c they agree with his position. Their reaction would be far different if he had used similar language to condemn protesters and support the pipeline.
A dozen protestors blocking access to Delta Port say they will not leave until RCMP leave Wet’suwet’en territory. Hundreds of dock workers lined up for work say they will not be paid b/c of the blockade.
@CTVVancouver
4/ If you care deeply enough about something that you'd like to discuss it publicly, reach out to a journalist, explain your position and why you're passionate about the issue. Don't hijack a live report on a completely different story. /End
2/ From my perspective, that shouldn't factor into this. It's either OK to harass reporters at work or it isn't, regardless of whether you agree with what is being said. I’m firmly in the camp that it isn’t.

3/ Every single day, we offer people the opportunity to share diverse views on a variety of issues, including the one in question here, which I personally covered on the weekend.
This is not ok. Nobody deserves this kind of harassment.
There's a dangerous rage boiling over in our country, fuelled by disinformation from people with bad intentions - often outside Canada. Those exploiting that anger must love this. For the rest of us, it's horrifying.
