HUGE UPSET! No. 8-seeded College of Saint Mary upsets top-ranked Northwestern College 3-1 Saturday night in the GPAC Postseason Tournament! It was the first loss of the season for the Red Raiders.
CSM Coach Rick Pruett joked along with the Mount Marty College student section at the Flames volleyball match Saturday. The Lancer students have been calling Coach Pruett "Pickle Rick" the last two years - taken from the TV show "Rick and Morty."
College of Saint Mary basketball player Alyssa Marsh-Contreras was recognized before today's game for scoring her 1,000th collegiate point recently. Marsh-Contreras played her first two full seasons at Peru State College before joining the Flames as a transfer student this fall.
Basketball coaches Kirk Walker and Shawn Gilbert are friends on the court, off the court and on the golf course. "Coach Gilbert and I have developed a great friendship. I know it is always going to be a battle when we play Midland because they are well coached."
Congratulations to Rachel Cushing on being named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Libero of the Year! Cushing led the country in digs with 440 on the season.
The CSM volleyball team just finished practice at Harold Newman Arena in Jamestown, N.D. before tonight's GPAC Championship. "The ladies are relaxed, excited and locked in," CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "We had a good walk-through this morning and they are ready!"
CSM softball player Abby Straight is being featured as the Flames' Spotlight Athlete. The senior was hitting a team-high .459 with 17 hits in 37 at bats before the season was cut short because of COVID-19. Straight will return to play next year.
Senior volleyball player Daryn Willman was named the CSM Heart of the Flames Award winner for the 2019-2020 season. The award was announced during the College of Saint Mary Virtual Athletic Awards Ceremony. Other nominees included Mary Morris (golf) and Sara Kraenow (soccer).
Spotlight Athlete: Lexie Langley helped CSM volleyball kick off the season with a 4-0 start at the Keiser University Chick-Fil-A Classic. The junior had a match-high 21 kills vs. Columbia (Mo.), 15 kills vs. Columbia International, 7 against Faulkner and 6 vs. Olivet Nazarene.
College of Saint Mary hosted a Special Olympics Unified Basketball event in the fieldhouse Friday. CSM student-athletes helped run some of the stations. It was great to watch all the athletes play hoops!
Scrimmage Day: The Flames basketball team had an intersquad scrimmage during practice today. "I'm lovin' the competitiveness," CSM Coach Kirk Walker said.

Happy Valentine's Day! Members of the College of Saint Mary softball team spent the lunch hour at the Omaha VA Medical Center handing out homemade cards and candy.
Flames Spotlight Athlete: Sophomore soccer player Abby Ridout scored College of Saint Mary's lone goal Saturday in CSM's 1-1 tie with Grand View University. It was Ridout's first goal as a Flame. Ridout scored at 75:34 with an assist from teammate Camila Munoz.
It's Senior Day! The CSM softball team will be recognizing seniors Gabby Hoglund, Lex Howe, Chloe Jensen, Bella Shull, Taelar Solano, Abby Straight and Ashley Trendle at the Flames home doubleheader with Dordt at 1 p.m. today.

We are very excited to announce our partnership with the University of Nebraska Omaha. Part of partnership is the sharing of facilities and allowing our students to attend any UNO athletic events for free by showing their CSM IDs. Students, groups/teams can go enjoy UNO events.
FLAMES SPOTLIGHT: Basketball player Honnah Leo shined in her first two collegiate contests for College of Saint Mary. The freshman had 25 points and 8 rebounds vs. York College and then had another 20 points and 7 boards vs. Presentation College.
