Anyone else get annoyed or bothered when watching a let's play and the streamer actively goes "Not reading that." to notes then complaining later on they don't know what's going on/or how to do a gameplay mechanic? No? Just me?

Trying out sync attacks. It's a bit harder to implement with current enemy logic but I think I can get it working. A little bit of clipping too but I'll see what I can do. So...You still wanna date her? 😆

So this is Marina. The main maid in my game and the one who was chasing you in the OG Unity game. She is the equivalent of a water bender and has a noticeable slav accent. She's in the remake too of course but joined by another I may reveal down the line. She's a kuudere too. 🧊

I decided to make drawers interactable too but deciding what to put in there that's useful is a bit hard. Cos yeah. A sandwich like that looks kinda weird. lol Any suggestions for a consumable of some kind to make scrounging around worth while? 😅

(1/2) Here's a small glimpse of how the maid's AI works. When pursuing you, if you block the door she will remember it for later. Meanwhile, she will go for the shortest alternate route to you not knowing if you blocked those too.

Mathilde's pretty much done. So is Marina. So decided to work a bit on the new resident librarian. Originally she was using fire as per VA's preference but depending how far I go with my plot, I may have someone else use fire. So for the moment experimenting with shadow instead.

I've successfully optimized the statue puzzle since the last video. It also works okay with the fixed camera angle system but there's still a bit of jank in this camera style. So it's very likely for the demo, I will not include it as a camera option. Full version will have tho.

The UI thing/Setting thing has made me a little cross eyed as of late so took a small break and tried to add an AFK thingie for when you haven't pressed anything in a while. Still a clunky looking sure but if people like it, I'll improve on it. If not, I'll take it out.

Weirdly enough the walking animation causes a minor head bob. I don't think it's too bad but anyone think it'll make them ill? If so, I can see what I can do to remove it completely. #indiegame #UnrealEngine

Day 3 of testing on the side. I always wondered how some games do that satisfying head explode when you headshot them. While I couldn't find an exact tutorial on how to do this I found enough info to think up a way of doing so. This may not be the best method but it kinda works?

Since it's still saturday for me, I'll post a small update. Been doing a lot of work on the maid's chasing logic and implemented a suspicion meter. Stuff like how close you are, if you're holding a light source, etc will fill quicker. #IndieDevs #screenshotsaturday #UnrealEngine

Nothing too impressive this saturday. Been working on the interaction system. Since first person is much more precise by looking directly at what you want to interact with, I had to tweak the 3rd person to be able to toggle between a couple of interactables #screenshotsaturday

Yes, basically a force choke animation but still gonna adapt it to my own lore. Technically she doesn't even need to wait for you to be wet since human body is comprised of water already but it requires more effort than for someone who is already drenched. Tldr: Don't get wet.🌊

More work on the AI today. A bit hard to hook it all together and it still work in harmony since yesterday the searches were via button. Here it's actually running with all the other stuff going in the behavior tree. Took quite some time to even get here. #indiedev #gamedev

One interesting thing about enemies in a lot of games is that they can't reach you in some locations. Sometimes as simple as standing on a table just because their nav mesh doesn't permit them to get over it to get you. So they stand like lemons looking at you. Well Marina won't.

For the text boxes, I have noticed a lot of other devs go for a more simplistic and straight forward black box approach. For reference, I did mine to look more like a visual novel/J-RPG which I guess might have come across as a bit gaudy in the OG. lol Which do you prefer?

Started working on the system where she checks hiding spots. Need some tweaking still but the base works so far. This should work no problem with hiding under bed too. Managed to figure this one out myself too. I must be finally improving. 🤖 #UE5 #gamedevelopment #indiedev

Even tho I'm ill, I've been working a bit more on the level design. Also added an experimental mechanic of blocking doors which works as you can see. But the maid is smart enough to find another way to get to you regardless. #ScreenshotSaturday #UnrealEngine #animegirl #indiedev

Took a bit longer than anticipated. Wasn't a fault of my code but an issue with the animations. But, yeah it's working now. This is for demonstration, they normally need 8 hits to be downed and they usually will be out for like 5 mins rather 5 seconds. 😁

Unfollowed a few accounts just now (inactive, bot, etc) but weirdly I noticed a couple of times accounts I remember clearly seem to have completely different content to what they used to. Almost like it's a different person running the account now. Anyone else notice this?

While I'm figuring out Marina's more complex AI, I decided to set up the armor sentinel's AI which is thankfully way more simple since they're dumb asf. 🤣They couldn't open doors in the OG game (by choice.) But, I'm wonder if they should be able to open doors this time. 😏

Messed around with the shader so I can turn the sentinel's eyes "on and off". Think it's a better indication when they're active since by default they were always lit up even when not moving. Kinda already told the player something was up. Wanted something other than red too.

Changed the translation for one of the slightly stronger swears Mathilde has so it's not so harsh. It's still relatively in context accurate tho so don't worry. 🤓(Since the section with Mathilde, you play the young Islene and not the male demo MC here. So "brat" makes sense.

I also decided finally that there should be an inventory system instead of the single object holding system like Granny which works better in smaller locations. So the examining is now from there rather than when you first interact with the item.

Since you can now jump in the remake (yes amazing mechanic I know 🤣. I had my reasons for leaving it out in the OG. Mostly not skilled enough to cover every issue it could cause. 😅), I guess I should add crouching too right? Not that you can escape her in narrow areas.

Haven't posted about this in a while since I paused work on it. But the annoying need to get those physics working led me to look into it again. Now it's still not perfect since some clipping still but it's leaps ahead of what I had ages ago. This was using KawaiiPhysics.

Don't really have any shooting animations for most of the guns (could pulled them out of the Lyra example project Unreal got up) but decided to go with the more procedural route using IK which also fixes some of the iffy hand positions. Seems ok so far, less annoying than Unity.

Since I'm still not sure how to get actual lipsync working with the models, I tried something of a workaround method for the moment. It's not the best but it beats no mouth movement during dialogue imo.

I've done what I can for the new QTE contextual so now I need to put up the new build later today so playtesters can see what new bugs they come across after all the new stuff added. Cos I'm sure there'll be a few. But, closer to public demo at least since less barebones.

Trying to make the QTE system more modular since it was tied to the fishing. Almost got it so any actor that needs to do QTEs can just run it through the same component. Haven't decided yet what penalty you suffer from the maids if you fail. Discussing it with a few people atm.

I mentioned off hand that one of the problems I had recently was with a model. To the point I wasn't sure if I can still even use it. I'm happy to say that thanks to @TheOrcosaurus and their friend as well as @filopuk also offered to help with the issue, that she has been fixed.

Not quite there and it doesn't yet work with her chasing or reverting back to normal form but I'm liking this so far. It def looks more like one of her inspirations here than it did in the Unity one where she looked more like she beamed in. lol I added SFX so u know who inspo is.

So with steamfest ending, the final wishlist count wasn't quite doubled but still a decent amount so much appreciation to everyone who added the game to their wishlist. I'll be improving the demo over time then move to focusing on full version.

People probably don't realize my current build is a new project after the old one got corrupted after too many engine updates. So I've slowly been putting everything back in piece by piece. Recently put back the projectiles each maid uses. She doesn't throw this many normally😂

Here's the last and least impressive Unity project I was messing around with till I jumped over to Unreal. It was a semi attempt at retrying the space survival horror game I showed a few weeks back. But, Unity's animation rigging system for aiming drove me up the wall. Bleh.

This took so looonnnngg. I think setting up the checks and removing from the inventory took more time than just creating the item from the needed ingredients. I think it's all solved from my checks so fingers crossed later something else related to it doesn't bite me in the butt.

One of the biggest complaints I got from the OG was if you were cornered, you were done. So I added a shove option to the new game. You can't spam it but it'll get you out of a pinch when you need it most. :3 #screenshotsaturday #UnrealEngine5 #gamedev

Been asked a few times now why I don't promote the game more. Or my socials where you can support me. The simple reason is that I still don't think what I've done is "good enough" to really push more. I recognize improvements but it's still not at that stage I'm happy with yet.

KNOCK KNOCK, OPEN UP THE DOOR! I feel like I'm wasting too much time doing funny stuff like this. This may or may not be in the demo/playtests as I need to see if such things cause problems in the long run. I already know it caused issues with the blocking furniture.
