District 19 Councilman - Louisville Metro
The views expressed are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer or other affiliated groups.
This is Major Gregory. Less than 24-hours from being shot attended his team’s roll call to tell them how much he appreciated them. This is the definition of leadership and selflessness. This is the caliber of public servant defending our city.
The
@kroger
distribution center for Louisville is in District 19. This is the line of trucks trying to get in there to keep us stocked. For Korger and all our grocers and truck drivers, thank you for keeping us stocked with food and necessities.
May God Bless our local Catholic Schools. I put my daughters on the bus to go to school this morning and they have always prioritized in person learning. Thank you to all the Catholic school teachers and administrators that make this happen.
Bipartisan meeting with
@RandPaul
to talk about housing homeless Veterans in Louisville with the Veterans Club. We must solve this problem for those who sacrificed so much for our country.
We are going to disagree on the stance here. I call on businesses to call JCPS and be very clear about how this decision impacted them and tell them to fix themselves. I am tired of asking everyone else to bend due to the incompetence of government.
With JCPS schools cancelled today and tomorrow I hope that businesses and employers will work with parents and caretakers to provide as much flexibility as possible as they work to adjust their schedules. Metro is here to help in any way we can.
Just making sure I am clear. Kentucky numbers for COVID are rising after we were told that wearing masks would reverse the situation. Other states are seeing declines but the federal Gov is totally at fault? No personal responsibility Doc?
Dear Friends, we need prayers. The LMPD officer who was shot last night was shot in the face, upper cheek area and the bullet lodged in the back of his neck. Seems he will survive but please pray for his speedy recovery and for his family.
This is an exciting Super Bowl for many as we cheer on our neighbors, the
@Bengals
, but it's important that we celebrate safely. Please follow these tips for a safe gathering, and most importantly, get your vaccine and booster if you haven't already.
I pray for justice, I pray for peace, I pray for everyone’s safety, and I am ready to work with anyone of goodwill who is looking to restore this city effective immediately.
I have spoken to one of the two officers who was shot last night. A great man who has dedicated his life to serving and protecting the public. He has a wife and three kids. He is home and recovering in good spirits. Trying to get ahold of the other officer now.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: If you don’t break the law and stand in the middle of the street, you don’t get run over. Thank you for your time. Please share.
VIDEO JUST IN:
@LMPD
Sgt. Lamont Washington just shared building surveillance that shows protestors try to stop a driver on Liberty near 6th...the driver speeds off, hitting a protestor who is thrown into the air.

LMPD Major just stated clearly that he received multiple stand down orders including direction from Mayors office. In one case, they tried to get a meeting with the Mayor to determine how to deal with car caravans, Mayor never met with them.
I am one of the primary sponsors of this Resolution expressing a vote of no confidence in the Mayor and requesting that he resign. I will have a full statement for my constituents tomorrow via my newsletter which I will share on Twitter and Facebook.
You have the right to protest and I have the right to say there are a bunch of anti-semites who hates Jews and the state of Israel ruining Light Up Louisville right now.
I am on the budget committee and just yesterday we got an update on revenue projections from the Mayor’s CFO. Not one mention of the need for this. By the way, this works out to $225,000/job. Our police officers make less than $40k starting salary with crap health insurance.
Do you want to know the definition of a badass? The LMPD officer was shot in the face, then got out of the car, and returned fire while chasing the criminal. How many people do you know run toward a person who just shot them in the face to ensure Justice is served?
Dear Friends, we need prayers. The LMPD officer who was shot last night was shot in the face, upper cheek area and the bullet lodged in the back of his neck. Seems he will survive but please pray for his speedy recovery and for his family.
Here is a difference between the Mayor and I. He says the answer to poverty is money. I say it is work. Work is how you earn money. Not sure when that idea became controversial.
Louisville is the latest city to launch its own guaranteed income program where the government issues some residents a monthly payment in hopes of bringing them out of poverty >>
I am watching the Mayor’s Press Conf, as the lawyers for Breonna Taylor call for criminal charges against LMPD officers, they stand next to and thank the LMPD boss, Mayor Fischer. Everyone wants to hang the officers out to dry but their boss gets thanked on stage. Incredible.
Then let’s arrest them all. Don’t want to oversimplify it but that seems to be the solution. I will take 30 gangs in jail for a 30% overnight violent crime reduction any day.
Brandon, I am confused, if you want to hold the Mayor accountable why did you fight against my resolution that called for the Mayor’s resignation? You defended/protected/voted for him which means you are similarly accountable for his decisions.
15% of LMPD gone in a year with more leaving every month, 414% increase in carjackings, 40% increase in homicides, 116% increase in shootings. Could it be that less police equals more crime?
Does anyone see the irony in a Mayor who says that this group is entirely peaceful and simultaneously calls in the entire police force to work during their protest?
UPDATE >>> Tuesday has been designated an “All Work-Day” for Louisville police because of Until Freedom’s planned march. All police off-days are canceled Tuesday and all personnel will be required to be available for duty.
Nationally, 40% of deaths are in nursing homes. In KY that is 60%. This is a captive audience that the Gov completely failed to protect while destroying the livelihoods of those who had little to no risk (eg no spread in many restaurants that were forced to close).
It’s fascinating how much government officials hate some of their constituents. Those of us who send our kids to Catholic School also pay for public school while using none of it. I’d rather you just said thank you for paying for your kids while getting nothing in return.
Happy Derby Day to all. I want to take a moment and thank all the first responders,
@LMPD
@loukyfire
@LouMetroES
who don’t get a day off to relax. They have to put their gear on and keep us safe. Thank you to all who serve and sacrifice for the community.
10 votes for and 1 against issuing subpoenas to Get the Mayor’s staff to testify in open session about the Administration’s handling of the civil unrest. We need answers and I am tired of the Mayor hiding the truth.
My selfie didn’t work out but a colleague took a picture of me with Ethan the Dog. Amazing story and many thanks to the
@kyhumane
for their work in restoring him to health. He is here as an ambassador for eliminating animal cruelty.
Substitute the word “Catholic” for any other demographic and we would call this racist or bigoted. Easy to make an anti-Catholic statement like this rather than discuss policy. Bigotry on parade.
Last month more people died from homicide in the city than from COVID according to city data. Where are the regular press conferences with updates? Where is the focus on this from city officials? I am tired of using COVID as an excuse for these delays.
"Where is the focus? Where is the push? Where is the regular public statements? Where is the updates on progress related to Group Violence and gang violence?" Councilman Anthony Piagentini asked. "It isn't there."
You must see this. IHME updated their numbers for KY. All protections were cut in HALF! Half the deaths, half the time to peak. Amazing. This means we are that much closer to the end. Great work people. Everyone keep it up so we can go back to work.
Keep crushing it local judges. First a repeat drug dealing offender is out and skipped bail and now we lower bail for a guy who killed someone while hammered behind the wheel. Anyone wonder why LMPD is frustrated? Why do they bother arresting people anymore?
First is cases. Second is deaths. Time to get back to normal. Even with the 2 week delay argument there is no increase in deaths from Omicron. Make reasonable accommodations for the most vulnerable. Everyone else, go to work. Education leaders, take the masks off our kids.
I am vaccinated and I encourage everyone who it is right for to get vaccinated as well. With that said, put this order in the column of “I will not comply”. We have completely lost perspective on the limited reasons we should infringe on freedoms.
I am with you Coach.
@LouisvilleBats
is only at 6,000 capacity on an outdoor sport when we had people at Derby outside elbow to elbow. Absurd. Open outdoor sports.
Agree with Bill here. I have told President James and the Administration that if the broads on City Hall aren’t down by tomorrow, I will be heading over there with a ladder and my cordless drill. We can’t ask businesses and others to return to normal if we won’t lead the way.
I support the Administration removing this for cleaning and restoring which can’t be done on the sidewalk. When that is over and things are calm, it needs to go right back in its place of honor. Period.
For those on other side of the aisle who accuse the right of attacking Democracy, I can think of no greater attack on democracy than calling for the elected person to stop running so party insiders can hand pick their own person. Stop rigging the election.
I have to ask
@courierjournal
@KentuckyRAG
if they think it is reasonable that the news of an
@LMPD
officer who was shot in the line of duty being released from the hospital belongs on the 2nd page of the sports section under the weather?
What does it say about our Mayor’s failed leadership when it is a News Alert that he will enforce the law! Better late than never. You can protest without breaking the law. This city belongs to us all. Not just to those who would hold us hostage.
The Mayor attended an event recently and every picture is him in close proximity with others, indoors, and unmasked. But if you want to go into the buildings your tax dollars pay for, you must mask up. Rules for thee, not for the Mayor.
Board member just said kids are 40 times more likely to die from COVID than guns in schools. That is factually a joke. More kids die from guns in just Jefferson County per year than from COVID across the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
On the Alta Vista overpass is this message...i have already alerted Metro and they are cleaning this filth up. If you wear the uniform, know this, the vast majority of our citizens love you and support you. We have your back because you have ours.
Here is what isn’t reported. Not one case of the virus spreading in the schools. And no kidding there are more cases reported than in JCPS. JCPS is underreporting cause kids are home or in YMCA facilities. The protocols the Catholic schools are using identify cases proactively.
And locally, the Director of Public Health for Jefferson County stated that Catholic Schools, which have been open for almost 2 months, have shown no evidence of spreading COVID. This is great news and all schools should be examining this to see how to open safely.
Unnecessary fear mongering. 9 children have died in KY from COVID in 2 years. Multiple times more kids die per year from gang violence in Louisville alone, more die from car accidents, suicide, etc. this isn’t close to the top problem for children.
On Monday,
@StevenStackMD
announced that 25% of Kentucky's newly reported COVID cases are in children. Please, mask up when indoors and get your children age 5 and up vaccinated and boosted if they're eligible.
Let's protect our kids.
Just finished my questions for the LMPD Command staff and Chief Hess of the Mayors Staff. They clearly said that officers were given stand down orders by leadership. The Mayor said that didn’t happen in an interview.
Curious, just found out that on June 11th, Campsites reopen but only if you have an RV. Working class folks like me who can’t afford an RV can’t pitch a tent. What is the Public Health reason for that? Where is the data that sleeping in a tent is riskier than sleeping in an RV?
If JCPS can pay parents to drive their own kids to school, can they pay parents who home school their own children? If you say no, explain what the logical difference is. Paying parents to do what the school system gets tax dollars to do. Serious question here.
This is ignorance on parade. The Mayor is saying we have record murders, shootings, and carjackings because we don’t have civilian review of the police. News flash, YOU ARE THE CIVILIAN IN CHARGE OF POLICE. You are the person responsible. Not the legislature! 10 years of failure.
We are projected to have an over $19M surplus at the end of this year due to increased growth in the city. I am about to run a victory lap! Metro did the right thing with this budget. We didn’t need tax increases last year and we need to stop governing in fear.
Does
@JeffCoAttyKY
think that a measly $100k was a reasonable bail ask for attempted murder, 3 counts wanton endangerment, admitted mental illness and a history of randomly leaving the city without telling anyone?
Recognizing the officers and dispatchers who prevented the kidnapping of a 6-year old child in our community. This is just an example of the amazing work
@LMPD
and MetroSafe does for us everyday.
I want to thank my colleagues for unanimously passing my illegal graffiti ordinance that will give more tools to fight illegal graffiti in our city including the impounding of a vehicle similar to how we have addressed illegal dumping.
Continue praying for this hero. Officer DesRoches who was shot in the line of duty has finally be discharged from the hospital. May God bless him and speed his recovery. Louisville police officer shot during protests released from hospital
I am sure
@RunWithCraig
has beefed up his security but I can’t imagine what he, his wife, and kids are thinking/feeling right now. Glad to help you in any way I can Craig. Stay safe.
111 criminal homicides. 79% YoY increase. 400 shootings...126% YoY increase. I am fine with having police reform debates but I want a plan from the Administration to deal with the 111 and increasing dead Louisvillians. Public Safety is job
#1
for any Mayor.
Instead of indoctrinating students indirectly, Chris Kolb wants to do that directly. Everyone should ensure their children avoid any school that employs him unless you want your child to be a Marxist indoctrinated fool.
#BREAKING
Chris Kolb is resigning from the Jefferson County Board of Education, effective immediately, according to a letter sent to the board.
According to the letter, Kolb is seeking a teaching position at JCPS.
We lost a young
@LMPD
@KYFOP614
officer in the line of duty today. May God provide his wife and 2 young children with comfort and love during this horrible time.
Middle of next week? Forgiving the days? Every taxpayer is paying for an educational system that isn’t educating. Kids will get less days this year due to this. No certainty for parents/employers. And as usual, the people getting screwed are those who can least afford it.
Pollio believes it could be “middle of next week” before school resumes for JCPS.
“There has been zero discussion about any instruction on NTI.”
Says he will ask board to forgive the days so school year is not extended.
To be clear, the full video clearly shows the driver (who is African-American) was surrounded, attacked, and had a gun pulled on them. You are allowed to flee to save your life. I didn’t advocate for people to hit people. I am advocating for the protestors to obey the law.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: If you don’t break the law and stand in the middle of the street, you don’t get run over. Thank you for your time. Please share.
Some believe that creating a graphic telling everyone I voted for the
@KYFOP614
contract will somehow shame me. It won’t. I wear this vote proudly. If you dislike it, you can file to run against me next year. See you on the campaign trail.
Herbert Lee, responsible for the death of 4 teens in 2010 and has multiple warrants, shot a cop in the chest when LMPD approached him in the park. He is a convicted felon so illegal for him to have a gun. Legit shoot in my book. Thank God these officers and the public are safe.
Allow me to help the Gov here. “Congratulations and my heartfelt thanks to the
@KYHouseGOP
and
@KYSenateGOP
for your fiscal leadership resulting in 4 straight years of $1B-plus budget surpluses (and funded pensions and income tax cuts…etc)
Congratulations, Kentucky, on celebrating four straight years of $1 billion-plus budget surpluses!
This means we have more money to invest in our children, our infrastructure and our future.
According to the CDC, a kid under 14 is 27 times more likely to die from an accident than COVID. In other words, if you drive your kid to school, you put them at 27 times greater risk of death than from COVID. All COVID restrictions on kids should stop.
Confirmed a bit ago that I already had COVID antibodies. Signed up and am donating COVID plasma which can help patients suffering in the hospital. If you have recovered from COVID, please consider donating blood plasma at the Kentucky Blood Center.
I will note they didn’t call for the release of the hostages. That would make these people terrorists supporters. If your first position isn’t release of all hostages and the removal of Hamas, you are a mouthpiece for terrorism.
Just heard that the guy who shot the LMPD officer recently had been arrested 20…yes 20 times and was on home incarceration. We need to ask these Judges what someone has to do to get remand or very high bail when a disgusting repeat offender like this goes home.
It isn’t COVID that is causing kids to fall behind, it is the insane policies adults create that is doing it. More kids die from violence which could be mitigated through better education than who die from COVID.
😷MASK UPDATE | Jefferson County is now in the red. Universal masking will be required in all
@JCPSKY
facilities & buses starting Monday, July 25th, 2022.
How is that restorative Justice program working? And this article says it all…even with more pay teachers would be leaving. It isn’t pay, it’s student discipline which is crushing both teacher retention and achievement for the students who want to learn.
BREAKING: Attorney General Merrick Garland confirms a federal civil rights investigation is being launched into the city of
#Louisville
and
@LMPD
for its police practices, including treatment of protesters, search warrants and traffic stops.
#BreonnaTaylor
#BlackLivesMatter
On behalf of Metro Council, I recognized Major Gregory and Officer DesRoches for their selfless dedication to our city. These were the officers who were shot in the line of duty during the protests. Thank you to the great officers who protect our community every day.
The Mayors proposed budget projects an over $70M dollar deficit the year after he leaves office and an over $100M deficit the year after that. This is in the midst of record revenue and record federal dollars coming in. I will be working to stop that insanity.
I used to make minimum wage. I don’t anymore. That isn’t supposed to be a career aspiration. It is a stepping stool that helps you learn skills to make more money. It is an entry point. Not a career goal.
Agree. Great conversation with
@JamesDeVille
. I have already asked LMPD to investigate and properly hold accountable anyone who had guns on their person on school property. That is illegal and in current times, we should not tolerate guns on school property.
I appreciate
@CMPiagentini
’s time today, as we both explored how to appropriately respond to the Eastern High School situation. These are troubling times, but some level headed leaders are still working together.
OUR BABY HAS TAKEN HIS FIRST STEPS! While he is wobbly & learning to use his legs again, this is huge progress! Less than a week ago, he was on death's door, & now he is finally able to walk a little again. Thank you so much to everyone supporting Ethan and his recovery!
This graphic speaks for itself. Keep in mind that in Jefferson County, between 20-30,000 kids have the option to go to school through Catholic or private schools. We need to open the schools. Even the Biden Administration CDC says it should be done even without the vaccine.
It is impossible to fully express here my thanks to the overwhelming bipartisan support I received from Council after reviewing the evidence. Now is the time to redouble our focus on tackling the serious issues of our city like crime, jobs, and infrastructure.
A.k.a. shitty parenting. Sorry to state the obvious but kids who are dying from guns, drugs, suicides and physical abuse are really suffering from shitty parents. I truly believe we are actually suffering from an epidemic of crap parenting combined with a lack of religiosity.
Firearms, drug overdoses, suicides and physical abuse are among the leading threats to Kentucky children, according to a state panel studying child fatalities.
Been trying to get ahold of
@louisvillemayor
There are multiple blocks of downtown overtaken by invaders. I am standing here and I don’t see anyone from the Administration. I have called multiple people. Get to work Mayor. Stop this lawlessness.
I love this guy. For 100 years Democrats did nothing to expand voter access and when Republicans do it, they have the gall to criticize us. Sorry. No thanks. This man calls balls and strikes with honesty better than any other person I know. Read the truth here.
Question: will the scope of the RFP include the Mayor and his Executive Team related to their decisions (or lack thereof) related to properly leading this department? If we are going to examine officers, are we examining the civilian leaders of those officers?
You read that right. UofL had more gunshot victims than COVID cases this month. Where is the state of emergency? Where are the executive orders? Where are the daily press conferences? We are doing great with the pandemic. We need to focus on this crisis now!
Grateful to UofL Hospital Chief of Surgery Dr. J. David Richardson for his help on the report, "Violence-Impact on Children Learning," and for his comments at the ceremony marking its placement in the US Congressional Record.
#HealingMercyCompassion
Although the final version we are voting in was amended from my original version, it is still a vote of “no confidence” in Mayor Fischer. It reflects many of my colleague’s frustration with the Mayor and passed 22 Yea and 4 Nay.
Just finished my questions of the Chief. He admitted that Mayor Fischer accused the Chief and LMPD of doctoring video which was not true. The Chief also clearly said the Mayor micro-managed the police in the early days.
