The Bolton lockdown has clearly not worked, and I believe that the cure is worse than the disease, so I have stepped down from my role as Parliamentary Private Secretary.
On Tuesday, the Government will be bringing forward their ‘Plan B’ which will lead to the introduction of Covid ID cards.
I will be voting against these measures. I am concerned the Government is using them as a stepping stone to implement a harsher 'Plan C' in the New Year.
It takes a huge amount of personal integrity to oppose the prevailing view and risk being sacked because of it.
Is the scientific and medical evidence really strong enough to warrant compulsory vaccination when this hospital consultant says it is not?
No.
"The science isn't strong enough".

When MPs were asked to vote on COVID restrictions this week, it was understood that the hospital waiting list was around 5 million. After the Government wins the vote, we now find that the situation is far far worse with 12 million in the waiting list.
Nadhim Zahawi tells T&G that there are now "a number of people already in hospital with the Omicron variant", but is unable to say how many, or if they've been vaccinated

Update: we will now impose vaccine passports because we have delivered 51,298,838 first, 47,804,609 second and 24,075,451 third doses.
Can’t wait for the New Year Plan C.
@Telegraph
.We have no plans to introduce vaccine passports. We have vaccinated, as of yesterday, 2,431,648 first dose and 412,167 second dose. No one has been given or will be required to have a vaccine passport.

Many constituents have contacted me enquiring as to whether or not I have put my letter of no confidence in with Sir Graham Brady MP. With a heavy heart, I confirm that I have put my letter in calling for a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister, Theresa May.
I oppose vax passports/identity cards but want the Government to provide the scientific evidence to explain why they reversed their opposition to wearing face masks. If they have no authoritative evidence to back up their decision then they should return to the original advice.
Ministers and professors, at the beginning of the pandemic, opposed the general wearing of face masks and then the position flipped almost overnight. There is no authoritative evidence to justify the general wearing of masks so why is it required?
Carl Heneghan, professor of evidence based medicine: "There's a lack of evidence" to support wearing face masks.

Presumably, Sir Keir will be triply vaccinated so what does this say about vaccinations protecting against picking up and passing on the disease?
He demonstrates that vaccine passports will give a false sense of security and is a project looking for a justification.
Keir Starmer has tested positive for COVID and will miss PMQs. The Labour leader also tested positive in October 2021 and will now - if my maths is correct - have self-isolated six times.
Why aren’t the mainstream media giving the anti-lockdown /

Hundreds of thousands of people are marching today. It’s enormous.

🚨🚨 Prime Minister has just said they will have to adjust what is deemed as fully vaccinated now we have the booster programme
➡️ This will mean over 34 million people will NO longer be fully vaccinated
Millions of double vaccinated had Covid and have significant immunity
“the Swedish Institute of Public Health did not observe a difference of infections in children and teachers in Sweden where schools were open without wearing masks as compared to children and teachers in Finland where schools were closed”
The NHS leaders I’ve spoken to reject the idea of compulsory vaccination for hospital doctors, consultants and nurses but ppl are happy to compel care home staff.
The ethics are of compulsion are inconsistent and wrong.
No opt ins, no opt outs. All EU members compelled to be part of the Euro Zone and Schengen. EEC to the EC and then the EU leading directly to the United States of Europe.

Forcing out 1,000s of carers has exacerbated problems in that sector and caused a bigger backlog in hospitals. Expelling 1,000s from the NHS is going to make the problems so much worse.
I hope that all those carers, who have been on the frontline through the pandemic, can find new jobs now that MPs have decided to kick them out of work. Only 40,000 replacements to find but I’m sure that it has all been thought through…
With Donald Tusk condemning Leave voters to hell and Guy Verhofstadt saying that we’d divide Lucifer from his minions, we can see how the European Union leadership are toxifying the debate over Britain’s democratic future. This is the vandalism I found at my office this morning.
Of course adults should decide for themselves and their families whether or not to take a vaccine but it would be deeply unethical to impose medical treatment on someone else, especially children, for the benefit of others.
Do you want your COVID Status Certification/ID card to give you elite privilege or do you want a return to normality where you do not need Government permission to go to a school sports day?
A ridiculous situation where parents can’t watch their children’s school sports days, but 2000 VIPs can fly over to watch the football with special legal exemptions. Prolonged covid restrictions are now proving arbitrary and divisive
The harsh restrictions have been awful for so many around the country and I don’t know anyone who would wish Tier 3 on anyone else. The lockdowns have been grim and are getting grimmer for wider health problems, education, the economy and civil liberties.
Every conversation with my association supports the desire that we must change direction, time is running out and that new leadership is likely needed to deliver. The feeling seems to be across the length and breadth of the country.
Local Conservative Association meeting this evening. Biggest turn out we've ever had. Over 25% of members attended. Unanimous support for my position to not support the deal and a very clear message that our leadership need to change direction or we need new leadership

Some v good points being brought up in Parliament against mandatory jabs for NHS workers - have been retrospectively introduced, undermining the terms on which people were employed. Liam Fox points out the logical flaw; most ppl can use tests OR passports. Why not NHS staff too?
My constituents want a clean break from the European Union, taking back control of our laws, our borders, our money and our trade. The withdrawal proposal from the Prime Minister will not help deliver that result.
They are both in tier three and the tiering system is designed to simplify the rules so everyone will find them easier to follow over the coming years. Off to a bad start...

Conservatives are rejecting the EU’s withdrawal proposal so No.10 are trying to convince Labour to support the Prime Minister’s policy. Not a good look and worse politics.
I grew up on Free School Meals and I know it's something that's important to many families across Bolton West. Labour are yet again telling a bare-faced lie. Under our proposals 50,000 more children will be eligible and no child who currently has a meal will have it taken away
The self loathing of some Brits is reaching new levels. For the State opening of Parliament - the one in London not Brussels - by Her Majesty we have to minimise the presence of the Union Flag 🇬🇧 or perhaps hide it away...

Is this a genuine step towards normality or is it a move, now that routine testing to go to work or school has become established, to make not being vaccinated expensive?
I have never thought that the affairs of Norfolk should be determined by what may be of benefit to parts of Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire. Science matters but this No.10 approved communication does not.
20 MPs have today written to Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham. Let's work together to avoid another damaging lockdown, tackling the virus on a regional basis, responding to the infection rates if we are save lives, look after the NHS, keep children in school, & shelter the economy.

NEW: Here's the letter 25 Labour MPs (including frontbenchers) have sent to Jeremy Corbyn urging him to agree a deal with Theresa May - and NOT request a second referendum:
The Prime Minister’s advisor comprehensively answered every question posed by the media at today’s press conference. He was able to clarify some misunderstandings around his stay in and transit to Durham and why it was within the rules. We now need to focus on the UK’s priorities
This could become confusing if there are official rules as well as official opinions contradicting unofficial opinions made by officials who look official but are probably claiming that they are speaking in an unofficial capacity whilst at work.
Love this tweet! It takes us back to why so many votes to leave the EU. It wastes our money, we cannot hold it to account and it is incapable of making sensible decisions because of vested interests.

@CGreenUK
My favourite EU waste of money is the Brussels/Strasbourg rotation, wasting millions in pointless expenses... never yet met a remainer who can defend that.
I was delighted to meet and discuss Brexit with so many Bolton West and Atherton members today. It has increased my resolve to oppose the WA and deliver on the democratic decision we made in 2016.
Thank you
@CGreenUK
for spending so much time talking to members today. I hope the very strong support you received for opposing the Withdrawal Agreement gives encouragement. 👍
The Government, by not being clear from the beginning, has enabled this drift.
They are still not balancing the debate between the impact of policy on Covid and the wider impacts of those policies.
Hence, we have children being masked in school whilst adults work without them.
Interesting how the focus of the Omicron discussion has changed. First it was deaths. Then hospitalisations. Then staff-shortages. It's now moving towards Long Covid. And a broader "NHS under constant pressure" narrative. We need a proper debate about how we prioritise all this.
Everyone of them is a Member of Parliament who was elected by their constituents to represent them. We do not elect presidents but MPs who chose, from amongst their number, the Prime Minister.
Some need to learn a lesson.

Why are the values of “no jab no job” right for care workers but wholly wrong for doctors and nurses? I still haven’t worked it out but the NHS leadership know that it would be 100% wrong.
Why care homes but not the NHS when the system must see the same risks in both?
It’s a wedge approach to establish the principle before widening scope just like Covid-19 passports for nightclubs.
