I sat down with Courtney Stephens and Callie Hernandez to talk about their new film, Invention. So much was left on the cutting room floor, but I think this gets to the core of what the film had been scratching inside my brain since seeing it last month.
Sky Hopinka just read aloud this statement in front of IDFA’s director after a post-screening Q&A for his film, malni —towards the ocean, towards the shore. Amazing.
@louisvirtel
For men, I know of few who make me feel like Alain Delon does in Purple Noon. he is every variation of effortless Mediterranean cool in that movie.
In one very small way I feel bad for this filmmaker, wracked with such insecurities. To throw random accusations of racism at me and operate with blind obstinance to the many measured responses to her choices must be a very lonely way to operate in the world right now.
@NotNikyatu
If you’re so insecure about your empty creative venture that you have to lob the racism card from the get go, maybe it’s time to take a step back.
@olsencassidy
something about actors today having to maintain every semblance of youth long after it’s necessary (or beneficial) does not gel with having to authentically portray people whose lifestyles and eras just allowed them to age.
Happening now: demonstration has moved into IDFA main hub led my Palestinian Film Institute in support of Palestine and calls for an immediate ceasefire.
Basma al-Sharif is here now, and has announced she won’t be screening her short films today, instead opening up a discussion with the audience about what’s going on re: Palestine, idfa

Thomas Flight got to be the worst of the long-form video essayists, for how seriously he takes himself, how seriously others take him, and for how insipid his insight is. Imagine saying old Hollywood acting lacks authenticity then using Bogart and Mary fucking Astor as examples!!
I have a few words in
@InRO
about VULCANIZADORA, undoubtedly one of the best films I'll see this year. Like BUZZARD it conveys a primal scream into the void, but now muzzled by guilty desperation and the responsibility of fatherhood.
@elbirdilara
i think it’s just way too understated for film twitter. there are no scenes they can take out of context and claim invented acting. i think it’s great
I will never get over the pure energy in this picture of Richard seeing Barbra Streisand in the flesh and Melissa’s genuine joy knowing how much she means to him. We don’t deserve it, yet it is ours.
Notably, Sky is part of their Corresponding Cinema’s strand this year, a programme also including the works of two Palestinian filmmakers, including the writer of this statement, Basma Al Sharif.
RIP William Klein, whose photography I’m not very familiar with, but whose documentary, THE FRENCH, set in the locker rooms, practice courts, and cool-down rooms at Roland Garros is one of the best films ever made about tennis and the machine that makes it tick.
This isn’t like a formal
announcement or anything but I’m very excited to be programming
@beyond_intrpt
once again at the ICA later this year :) Can’t wait to bring lots of new microbudget American cinema to the UK for the first time again.

because they record Keep It on tuesday afternoons and they lament drama when it happens on tuesday nights after they record!
QUEER FUTURES, my sister’s first lead producing credits at Multitude Films, is arriving on the

joins me to discuss George Stevens' 1953 masterpiece SHANE, the revisionist western that pushed the genre forward in terms of psychological complexity and graphic violence.
London people!! My friends and I programmed this wonderful season of Korean film for
@KCCUK

I'm very excited to make my
@LWLies
debut today. They let me talk about my
@NFTS_Curating
grad project, Beyond Interpretation, why I did it, and some of the cinematic influences on the films in the season. A big thanks to
@thethirdhan
for the commission!!
Now is as good a time as any, so I'm excited to show you all some new artwork for Beyond Interpretation! I can't thank the talented and collaborative
@_bamcreate
enough for her work on this design (and others you will see soon).
Fun bit of news this morning! Looking forward to my very first trip to Italy, my first silent film festival, and (if the plan sticks) a quick stop in London afterwards for some Beyond Interpretation goodness...stay tuned for that last bit 👀
