CALFIRE CZU has received a replacement generator for the LOMA PRIETA repeater tower. The previous generator was out of service for the last 2+ years with a portable generator maintaining power. This tower services CAL FIRE, CHP, Cal OES, CA State Parks, CALTRANS, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office, AMR, and other fire agencies across Santa Cruz County. A repeater tower has an antenna that receives radio signals from handheld radios or other devices. These signals might be weak or distorted due to distance or obstacles. The tower amplifies these signals, making them stronger and clearer. Once the signal is amplified, the repeater tower retransmits it on a different frequency. This allows the signal to travel much further than it could on its own. By receiving, amplifying, and retransmitting signals, repeater towers effectively extend the communication range of radios.
