What an amazing day! I got up at 4.40am to spend the morning hiking to and then sitting next to an erupting
#volcano
in the pouring rain 🌧. I loved every single minute. What a privilege to get to see
#nature
like this.
#Iceland
you are incredible!!! 🇮🇸 🌋
#icelandvolcano
Another
#eruption
has started on the Reykjanes peninsula in
#Iceland
. Avoid the area, monitor local media and follow the authorities’ advice. The rest of Iceland is not affected. The picture below is the view from the Residence in downtown

Absolutely delighted to be appointed as the next British Ambassador to Iceland 🇮🇸. I’m looking forward to getting to know this incredible country and working with the
@ukiniceland
team to further strengthen the great friendship between the
#UK
&
#Iceland
.
Exciting day today - I went to Number 10 to collect my Credentials (formal letter from HM the Queen to appoint me as
#Ambassador
to
#Iceland
which I will take with me to
#Reykjavik
to present to the President of Iceland)
I passed my
#Icelandic
exams!! They were tough! To anyone thinking of learning Icelandic I say definitely do. It’s not easy & takes time, but it’s absolutely worth the effort, it’s a brilliant
#language
. Exams may be over for me but I still have a LOT to learn!
#LanguageLearning
Super efficient operation by
#Iceland
to
#vaccinate
5-11 year olds in
#Reykjavik
today. Even showing children’s programmes to make the experience as easy as possible for children. My two have now had their first
#CovidVaccine
. Thank you!
Every few years,
#diplomats
and their families pack their lives into boxes and head off on their next adventure. Today it’s our turn and I couldn’t be more excited. Next week we’re moving to
#Iceland
! 🇮🇸
Today is
#IcelandicLanguageDay
! Exactly one year ago today I had my first
#Icelandic
lesson. I still have a long way to go, but I do have a favourite word… handleggur! ⬇️
Great fun to meet my Japanese counterpart
@SUZUKIRyotaro1
today. We talked about all sorts of things from Covid to trade to Twitter to learning
#Icelandic
to swimming pools, but mainly just how happy we are to be posted as
#Ambassadors
to
#Iceland
It’s now 1 year since we arrived in Iceland 🇮🇸! What a privilege to get to live and work in this awe inspiring country. Thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome, it’s been an incredible year. Here’s to even more exciting

-
#Iceland
collaborations next year!

It’s 20 years ago today that my incredible Dad died suddenly and unexpectedly. He always taught me “anything is possible” and that is why I am what I am today. I so wish I could have showed him Iceland 🇮🇸, he would have absolutely loved it.
I was very well looked after on
@HMS_Richmond
and I know this will seem trivial to anyone in the
@RoyalNavy
or who has worked at sea, but I liked the idea of using cling film to stop the
#coffee
spilling so much that I asked to take a photo!

Today is our 13th wedding anniversary but our first one in
#Iceland
. We made the most of being here by going for a swim, then out for coffee and cake and then for a bit of a hike on Mount
#Esja
. A lovely day!
I tried grjónagrautur for first time today and loved it. Two questions: 1. When is this normally eaten, is it a breakfast food or more for lunch (or dinner) time? 2. What should I mix into it?
Stunning day in
#Reykjavik
for the first day of
#summer
! Just learnt why it’s the first day of summer today, in April: the year used to just be split into summer and winter in
#Iceland
, they didn’t bother with spring and autumn. Kept it nice and simple!
On 24 August, Dr
@BryonyMathew
presented her credentials from Her Majesty the Queen to President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson which means that she is now officially the new British Ambassador to Iceland.

And last night we followed the recommendation to try “pylsur” for dinner. My son said “wow, these are the best hot dogs in the whole world”, so that was a pretty good start to our
#Icelandic
#food
experience! What should we try next? Recommendations please!

Just told my 7 year-old son that I’m going to the Norwegian 🇳🇴 national Day reception tonight.
His response: “Will the Ambassador be singing Give that wolf a banana?”.
Well
@AudLise
……..?
@NorwayinIceland
Days are getting noticeably longer here in
#Reykjavik
, this was taken at 8.30am this morning. Not long ago it was still pitch black at this time.
#Iceland
Today I saw the phenomenal skills of Iceland’s
#helicopter
pilots and Search & Rescue experts by joining their training. I was winched into a helicopter, landed on an island, ran to the sea, swam out and was then pulled onto a RIB. Absolutely Incredible

New
#eruption
just started in
#Iceland
. I’m up for an early flight and this is the view so far from the domestic airport. Looks like similar area to the last eruption, but information only just starting to come in. Follow

Today we repeat the event of the first full day women’s strike since 1975, marking the day when 90% of Icelandic women took the day off from both work and domestic duties, leading to pivotal change including the world’s first female elected president of a country
#kvennaverkfall
It’s time! I have been wanting to read Independent People by Halldór Laxness for so long and have now finally found time. Icelanders tell me it will give me an insight into
#Icelandic
thinking and approach to life. I’m intrigued!

An incredibly sad day for the UK and many people around the world as we mourn the death of Her Majesty the Queen. I have just been to Buckingham Palace where huge crowds have gathered. My family & I send our deepest condolences to His Majesty The King and to the
