I haven’t tweeted much about BTS lately but best believe I’m still watching their moves and I’ll always be thrilled to see them win.
Maybe, especially, Jimin 😏
The fact that many thousands of Swifties unknowingly preordered a BTS book and assisted ARMY in sending it to the top of every bestseller list… that’s better than fiction, baby
I’m really interested to see how this ARMY/HYBE situation plays out. Sucks it has to happen but if any fandom can effect positive change in the ticketing industry it’s ARMY. Some folks need to learn not to bite the hand that feeds anyway 🥶
Billboard states rules were changed to exclude downloads from artist web stores from counting towards Hot 100 because they "usually operate with far less limitations than iTunes or Amazon".
Yes, I know this book didn’t actually need “help” getting to No. 1. I hope you’ll forgive me and that everyone who wants a preorder gets one (me included 😮💨)
The book reached
#1
bestseller only AFTER the bts title was revealed and swifties cancelled their orders. This take is not better than fiction, it is fiction. BTS doesn’t need nobody’s help to sell.
It's pretty cool/surreal/funny that some of my articles have practically become fandom-wide punchlines that precede me. I'll always be grateful and a little mystified by that 😂
Once again I’m incredibly sorry to everyone who followed me yesterday and will now be subjected to an onslaught of glam metal hot takes, punctuated by an occasional BTS post
The frustrating thing about Harry Styles is that his first album was fun, charming, almost quaintly unambitious (albeit sterile), but he kept doubling down on his blandest traits until he arrived at Harry's House, a lazy pop record that's practically algorithmic in its blandness
So pop artists realized they could press 17 variants of the same record at $40+ a pop and fans would eat it up in the name of loyalty. Terrific. Love it here
EXCLUSIVE: After years of rock supremacy, mainstream pop albums are now driving the ongoing vinyl boom, with Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and Olivia Rodrigo leading the charge.
Story:
Wow, who could've predicted that the 38-year-old weirdo who blows a nine-figure budget on filming softcore porn with women 15 years his junior would graduate to filming hardcore torture porn with women 15 years his junior
Exclusive: Crew members claim 'Euphoria' creator Sam Levinson’s new HBO series 'The Idol' with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp has been utter chaos, with firings, hidden scripts, and a wasted $75 million budget.
Music creation and consumption are driven by greed now more than ever. It’s not enough to enjoy an artist’s original creation in the way they intended anymore. Now we need to reanimate corpses to satisfy our every whim because we think we’re entitled to it
Men who talk like this view women solely as objects of lust or, when it’s inevitably not reciprocated, of scorn. That “lol” is trying and failing to hide a lot of deep-rooted insecurities
Pardi deleted all his pics of him and Meg, he stood by her while she was getting passed around like a blunt between Tory Lanez, Dababy and whoever else, women ain’t shit lol.
The first album is the sound of a guy who's a little nervous to set out on his own but genuinely excited to make something new & learn from the people around him. Now his rock star status is assumed and unearned, because, ya know... he doesn't make rock music
@BlueeDenise
Probably not. Those prejudices are deeply embedded. But that’s partially why I don’t think having a one-size-fits-all chart is worthwhile for anyone, when there are so many different metrics of popularity and ways to support an artist
For the "what about rock artists 😡😡😡" crowd in my mentions: No, I don't like when the Rolling Stones press 40+ variants of their new album with identical contents either. I'm sorry my tweet didn't align with a news cycle you deem satisfactory. Actually no I'm not. Go outside
So pop artists realized they could press 17 variants of the same record at $40+ a pop and fans would eat it up in the name of loyalty. Terrific. Love it here
I know firsthand how hard it is to maintain healthy communication and relationships when you’re in a depressive wilderness phase, but man, it does not make it any easier to watch your friends cut you out of their lives when they go through their own.
Morgan Wallen will be taking some time off from singing. The country star posted a video to his social accounts explaining that he had been placed on vocal rest for six weeks and would need to postpone upcoming tour dates, citing “vocal fold trauma.”
A lot of music journalism’s shortcomings over the past 50-odd years make a lot more sense when you consider the industry bible was founded by a close-minded sycophant with a tenuous grasp on the truth and the English language
I can't even think of a snappy Grammys tweet. Y'all were too fast and I've already scrolled past too many zingers. Anything I attempt will just be a hack job now. Thanks to all the brave tweeters for their service
Writers should constantly check themselves on whether they're placing themselves in a story or making themselves the main character. It’s so exciting to profile a subject you LOVE, but if you devote more words to yourself than them, you're doing something wrong
If any of my 20.4K followers actually still see/engage with my tweets I'm gonna share some music stuff that's important to me in about 50 minutes so watch this space please and thank you 👁️
I don't know who convinced these world-conquering artists that the best way to "thank" fans for playing their music on a vulturous streaming service was to sell them more "exclusive" overpriced crap, but ... it's not
Your favorite artist did something cool onstage and you weren’t there to see it? Thirty years ago that would’ve become a cool little piece of trivia/mythology, something to look for in bootlegs. Now it’s “fuck you, I better get the same goddamn thing at my show!”
.
@MorganWallen
's 'One Thing At A Time' becomes the country album with the most weeks at
#1
on the Billboard 200 this century, surpassing
@taylorswift13
's 'Fearless' (2008-09).
@thescreendoor
Labels and fans will always find new ways to gamify the charts, so at the end of the day, somebody who probably doesn’t deserve money is still getting paid and “popularity” loses all meaning
People will pay $8 for a coffee every morning to have their name on it, $10 a month for a streaming service to watch repeats of an old show, $50 a day on weed, but won’t pay for verification of their own identity on Twitter without acting like it’s costing them their life.
I already know 2023 is going to be a massive year for my music and writing careers. I feel like I’m finally hitting my stride and doing some of my best work yet. Despite this, I’m also fighting some of the worst imposter syndrome of my life lol
The crowd last night was THRILLED to see
@hurricanenita
back onstage and so was I. She’s a bonafide guitar hero and rockstar, and Alice’s band wouldn’t be the same without her 🎸
Maybe hot take but there is absolutely NO reason for a lot of venues, especially clubs, to be half as loud as they are. People are getting their hearing fucking obliterated all so they can hear an awful, garbled mush. Not worth it in any way
This whole situation is bizarre and speaks to the need for more clear and timely communication from artists. Fans, journalists, etc. shouldn’t have to waste an entire news cycle playing detective over why a performance went off the rails
Somebody posted a semi-viral screenshot of an old article of mine & agreed with what I said, but they also blocked me on here. I can only assume they wanted to eliminate the possibility of being starstruck
You don't need a crystal ball to see Sam Levinson is a creepy loser who wields his power to cozy up to attractive young women and get them naked on-set. I suspect we'll hear a lot more about it whenever Euphoria wraps.
My timeline is evenly split between people joining/promoting threads and people complaining how dead threads is, and I just need to know if anyone has ever once in their life considered waiting five minutes before jumping on a bandwagon
This is an illuminating thread from one of the hardest working and most upstanding musicians in the biz — and predictably it’s riddled with assholes saying “nice lived experience, HERE’S WHY IT’S ACTUALLY WRONG”
Felt appropriate to post this on Labor Day. Here are the merch cuts being taken by the venues on this upcoming tour. This is going to cause us to sell our merch for higher prices than we'd like to at certain venues. We think that sucks. 1/
This isn't so much a review as a long-winded, chronological summary of the movie. The observations are banal and the zingers are recycled. Hard to feel bad for somebody who went to a 2hr45m movie and was upset to learn that it was, in fact, two hours and 45 minutes.
i was hoping that the oppenheimer movie would inspire a generation of kids to be physicists but it really missed the mark on that.
let's get that movie made!
(i think the social network managed to do this for startup founders.)
If any scorned Doja Cat fans need a new artist to stan, Ne’er-do-well’s ‘Fun Days’ EP is available everywhere now. I have like six fans so I promise I’ll be grateful for you
@breaktheesystem
@thescreendoor
That’s true. I tried to expand on this in another reply, but ultimately labels are the ones with the most $$$ and have historically bent the rules in their favor. Fans can choose to play that game but then they risk having the rules changed over and over as we’ve seen
Meg in particular gets so much vitriol from anonymous online losers. Like, they see a successful and attractive woman and their only possible reactions are to fear her or to hate her. Men are so fucking weak lmao
NEW MUSIC ANNOUNCEMENT 🗣️🗣️🗣️‼️‼️‼️
Ne'er-do-well's "Keep Runnin'" comes out everywhere on April 5. Tell all your friends, enemies and lovers. We worked damn hard on this one and you don't wanna miss it. You can presave on Spotify now:
I try not to take it personally, but I’ve also worked extremely fucking hard to keep up my end of the bargain and be an accessible friend even at my worst. So it hurts when others don’t reciprocate, whether by choice or because they just can’t
Most ppl seem to believe that when students ask to go to the toilet in a lesson they actually want to go to the toilet and not just have an extra break - come on ppl! Obv there are exceptions to this rule but in my 15 years experience, 50%+ just want to get out of lesson time.
Haven’t promoted my own music in a while sooo hey if you enjoy pop-punk, hair metal, Wawa, cheap hair dye, screaming guitar solos or any combination of the above, follow Ne’er-do-well on Instagram or any and all streaming services 🙂
I’m so grateful for bad music. It’s proof that nothing is too awful for you to share with the public if you believe in it. That new Meghan Trainor preview gave me more motivation/permission to keep releasing music than my top 100 favorite songs combined.
That part in "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" where they hit the B-minor and Steven Tyler screams "'Cause even when I DREEEEEEEAAAAMMMM OF YOOUUUUUU" is simply one of the greatest moments in the history of pop music
Frank Ocean's statement on his
#Coachella
performance:
"It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon."
More:
"A person who doesn't like a thing reviews the thing" is such a lazy and increasingly common premise for a review. Y'all know that for decades, daily papers employed a sole arts critic who did exactly that... right? Right???
It’s fascinating how the punk/hardcore scene — ostensibly made “by the people, for the people” — now capitalizes on that ethos and shuts out so many young/local bands unless they buy their way into it. I don’t think that’s the kind of DIY the OG scenesters had in mind!
Checked off a major bucket list band last night:

The Jack Antonoff Beatles cover is a great example of somebody having a considerable amount of talent and the absolute worst taste/instincts on planet earth
