Parents: Sit with your child to read the Preamble of our Constitution. Go over the Bill of Rights. Instill an appreciation of our common American heritage.
Itโs been 238 years since the U.S. Constitution was signed. Today, we honor the foundation of our great nation โ a living document that secures our freedoms, shapes our democracy, and unites us as Americans. #ConstitutionDay

5 Mistakes Parents Make Introducing Classic Literature to Kids ๐ 1. Thinking Theyโre Too Young Start early. Kids soak up big words faster than you think. 2. Skipping Childrenโs Classics Build stamina with age-appropriate classics first. Beatrix Potter, Paddington, Hans

I โค๏ธ etymology โจโจโจ
The word โblanketโ has a strange history, because itโs an echo of Old English, but not a direct one. Anglo-Saxons called a blanket a hwฤซtel, or โlittle white thingโ, because they made blankets out of undyed wool. If this word had survived, today it would be โwhittle.โ But

Constitution Day is this Wednesday, September 17th. Every school that receives federal funding must commemorate this day with students. How are your childrenโs schools celebrating one of our nationโs most important documents, one that shapes our daily lives? #MCPS

A challenge for myself and for you, too!
If youโve never read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, do yourself a favor and read it during the holidays. Itโs one of the greatest books ever written, it takes less than two hours to read and once you finish, you can say youโve read one book by Charles Dickens.

Everyone is โconstructivistโ, just one side prompts students to systematically construct through examples and deliberate practice, while the other prompts students to construct through discovery. Students cannot construct upon shaky foundations. So, at some point, just tell them.

Weโve got to teach our children resilience, consistency, discipline.
The joy of math is similar to the joy of exercise. You gotta earn it. Exercise gets way more fun once you notice a body transformation getting underway. It's the same way with math. But nobody feels the transformation on day one. Or day two, or even day three. You gotta stick

How many of our young adults suffered in this same exact way here in Montgomery County?
Sharing this DM with permission from someone who was in high school during lockdowns. The cruelty inflicted on these young people caused real, long-lasting damage. If anyone has some words of advice or encouragement for this young person that would be appreciated.

Excellent summary of how true learning takes place ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Learning is a compounding game. Itโs about steady growth over time not momentary performance. This is why retrieval practice, daily review, and spacing are so powerful. They convert momentary effort into lasting advantage. We often judge students by where they are now. Their

Best way to teach critical thinking: Teach reading, writing, and arithmetic to mastery, immerse students in classic children's literature, Latin with a focus on grammar, traditional logic, classical rhetoric, and teach and engage in discussion about great literature.

The start of the academic year brings yet another report of guns inside one of our schools. When will you, the parents, demand #MCPS restore our SROs?
โ ๏ธWe hear the reports on the news. โ ๏ธWe see the videos posted across social media. โ ๏ธOur children tell us what's happening in their school buildings and in their classrooms. โ ๏ธOur teachers are testifying before the BOE. โ ๏ธThey want you to deny the data presented to you directly,

When will #MCPS decide to bring back School Resource Officers? Why are our children โ our most vulnerable & precious members of our society, left unguarded during the school day? The situation is simply intolerable.

We must recover the Trivium: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric.
We, as Americans, must recommit to the power of the pen. Go to your childrenโs schools and ask them about their English curriculum. Are they reading whole books? What books? Are they learning to write in long form? Are they learning to make arguments based on logic and reason?
