@snurosnare Vibration testing components with a variety of profiles (sine, random vibe, etc). High accelerations and high payload capacity drives up the cost a lot

@Chrismholt Ooh that picoquake looks really handy, will pick one up! Think I'll be replicating your setup :) And lol, I see you're one of the other 49 people watching it 😂

@snacpaccc Sometimes! Have had a few job offers, and sometimes contracting/consulting requests. I think it'd make a really awesome resume if I were to go job hunting too. But tbh most of my inbox is companies wanting to "use" the channel in some capacity. Promotion, collaboration, etc.

@b1t3lf Mmm, yeah I was worried about that but couldn't really find any specs (because lol paint shaker). Cheers for the confirmation. I think building one shouldn't be too hard, but the control/power amp is beyond me. Maybe just repurpose a woofer amplifier?

@Tres_sarcastik Yep! Might make a small permanent magnet version for small component testing if I can't find a surplus model. The big boys are probably outside my budget/skills alas

@RoryJacobEvans She's a beauty! 🤩 What's the power/force rating? And what are those cylinder grill things on the payload? Agreed re: pneumatic. Just a barebones "shake the snot out of it" test to uncover the worst problems early @BenchmarkSpace is in town, I might bug them to use theirs🥺

@RangenMichael @jwt0625 Yep, internal too! The focal point of the fs pulse alters the crystal structure of the quartz, which makes it more susceptible to wet etching (something like 1500:1 selectivity). So you can draw internal shapes and then etch them out with HF or KOH. Just needs path for etchant

@MarcoReps @davinbirdi That's still a pretty clean edge considering the wobble! Jelly of your laser wavelength, all kinds of fun things you can do with it :) 1064 is so boring in comparison 😅

@RoryJacobEvans Ooh, I like that! The current torsion spring is accidentally doing that to some degree right now. The ID is a bit large for the shaft, so it's twisting and applying some preload in one direction. Doing that on purpose would be👌though

@RoryJacobEvans Hah, accidentally picked pretty good values for the PEEK spacer. Will run the numbers and figure out correct thickness, cheers! Pretty sure the shoulder bolt will bind on the aluminum hinge shoulder, didn't leave enough clearance there for expansion. Easy fix though!

@hardwarehurts I cheated and these were all single setups on the 5-axis 😇 Machined 5 sides and cut it off with a slitting saw on the bottom. And yep, the pockets are for weight reduction!

@acodechef Thanks, and yep at least in part! Going to talk about machining these, as well as design considerations for their end application (space). Will be a mix of CAD/CAM and design/mat sci.
