We chased a couple of severe storms in southwest Kansas yesterday evening. Here is a shot of lightning striking north of Ashland. We saw a couple of lightning induced grass fires that started in the area. I’ll post some video later today.

Two large tornadoes from southwest Indiana yesterday. I was east of the large tornado that formed north of Mount Vernon, IN and west of the tornado that developed near Johnson, IN. Full length chase video in comments.

We caught three tornadoes in Illinois today. All quickly became rain wrapped on this high precipitation storm. This is a video grab of the Lewistown, IL tornado. A bit blurry due to driving at the time, but shows a pretty stout tornado.

When Slash stopped by to Trick-or-Treat the other night, he jammed out to some tornado footage for a few minutes, playing "Riders on the Storm". Imagine that...
A lightning strike behind a rain wrapped tornado illuminates it enough to be seen southeast of San Angelo, TX. (video frame grab/contrast enhanced).

It was nine years ago today that I was able to capture the best video footage of TIV2 driving towards a tornado. We were near Bradshaw, Nebraska. This is a frame grab from the video I captured after I jumped out of the TIV to get closer on foot!

Check out this awesome time lapse our tour guest Michael captured yesterday of the tornado southwest of Eden, Texas! Amazing footage here!

I was able to capture some amazing still photography of the landspouts in Colorado yesterday. I might need to make a wall hanger out of this set as well.

Here are a few tornado photos I took on Friday in Texas. I am getting one of these printed at 16x20 and it’s going on the wall! Which one is your favorite shot?

Heading out to chase some storms today! Hoping to find some softball sized hail and a photogenic supercell. A 🌪 would be a bonus. Here are some photos from Tuesday’s chase that I’m finally getting around to posting.

When the beauty of this earth comes together with a beautiful sky, I’m left speechless....The sky was on fire last night over Scotts Bluff National Monument. Wow!

Some pictures of the tornado north of Eldorado, Oklahoma on Thursday evening. The multiple vortices were insane with several horizontal vortices. Video link in the comments

As the storms began to weaken yesterday evening, I decided to get west of the activity for a different perspective. This was the tail end storm that was east of Burns, Kansas. It was a small storm on radar, but had a visually impressive updraft tower.

I’m keeping an eye out for some potential storm chasing next week if things come together as the models have been advertising so far. This chart shows the supercell composite for 6pm on Wednesday, March 10th. Who is ready for spring?

This is my favorite lightning shot I’ve ever captured. I wish I had set a smaller aperture, but I didn’t expect a strike this close. This was a 20 sec. exposure at f/5.6 @ ISO200. I wish I would have had my aperture set somewhere in the f/11-16 range. Would have been perfect.
4 years ago I captured this tornado just after sunset near Dexter, Kansas. Conditions are not looking as favorable today, but some severe storms are possible this evening over north central Kansas.

Today marks the first day of meteorological spring, which is based off of the temperature cycle. Astronomical spring, which is still 19 days away, is based off of the earth’s orbital position with respect to the sun.

I’ve been doing a lot of traveling over the past week and I’ve seen some amazing sights along the way. I love the feeling of freedom and exploration that comes along with chasing Mother Nature’s temper tantrums across the country.

A high risk for tornadoes has been issued for today. Stay weather aware if you live in these areas. Could be a dangerous day. First map shows the overall severe risk area, second map shows tornado probabilities.
This supercell had some incredible structure as it tracked across northeast Kansas yesterday evening. This was taken near Wheaton, Kansas and the storm was tornado warned at the time.
