Everything intellectual/creative is easy in the beginning until you hit a difficulty spike in the middle that discourages you - since for you, specifically, there was no level or difficulty curve prior. To use game terminology, it's like you're just fighting level 1 grunts for a few hours and then getting thrown into a level 40 boss fight. For everyone else the grunts start at level 20 and then steadily incline up to 40. You also get bored of "easy" things (which is most things) and therefore you never stick to any one field or skill long enough to master it. This is similar to ADD/ADHD, but they aren't the same. It's not that your mind can't focus on a specific thing - it's that everything is so easy (until you hit that level spike) that you lose interest quickly. Learning new things is exciting but mastering them gets boring. There's also the whole "high expectations turn into big disappointments" thing which fucks with your psychology hard. Basically everything has an unnecessary amount of social pressure to it which leads most gifted kids into either matching those expectations (via adderall, coke, and/or meth) until they crash & burn OR internalize being a failure and it developing into a complex. So basically, gifted kids are pretty much doomed to fail in most cases.
