Excited to announce STORM-Net: Severe and Tornado Real-time Monitoring Network. STORM-Net is a rapidly-updating state-of-the-art deep learning model that predicts tornadoes, significant tornadoes, damaging severe storm winds, large hail, and flash flooding at high accuracy up to an hour in advance. It runs and updates in real-time for most of CONUS (everywhere E of the Rockies). STORM-Net is capable of predicting these hazards while they are in progress as well as before they even develop. STORM-Net takes approximately 7 seconds to produce a single whole-grid forecast. We at @AtmoAnalytics are working with some exciting clients to get this integrated into some well-known commercial and consumer products within the next few months. More info to come! Attached are two examples of the STORM-Net tornado prediction model test case: an ongoing supercell in eastern Alabama on Jan 12, 2023 that dropped tornadoes along its path. The purple contours indicate where tornadoes actually occurred (within 10 miles).

The blue circle over the black background is where I am denoting the risk of severe weather. The signal is in the models. Strong ensemble support for a maturing LP to ride the base of a shortwave trough across the Central US, coinciding with a warm and moist airmass over the deep south. Ensembles are showing strong support for a LLJ streak across the area.. a favorable setup overall. Decent model-to-model agreement on the core synoptic features of the setup.

@Wx_Louisiana @EMoriartyWX @junefirstwx STORM-Net is expensive to operate! But stay tuned this spring, some big business changes have occurred over the last few months and STORM-Net will be more readily available soon.

@realStarInBox Recently saw a study showing climate change causing less snow in the south, by frequency AND severity. Now some people claim that this severe winter storm is a result of climate change?
