Well, I’d love to confirm that we were ultra-deep thinkers and that there was a narrative behind the narrative, but... When I took over the film we had a hellacious deadline and only 2 of the films many sets were built. Truth is we were just trying to reuse props where we could.

Round 2 of rhythm and timing!! This one goes to the legend himself @BradBirdA113 ! Brilliantly animated to really push the buzz Hogarth is taking from his coffee. Such a complex and long shot. The timing really break up the pacing and adds an extra level of appeal. #animation

Loved Incredibles 2 but seriously, @BradBirdA113 why the cuss words? I probably won't buy it now. That was the only disappointing thing in the movie. I just don't think its appropriate and I shouldn't have to filter a kids movie. #Incredibles2 #letthekidsbekids

Watch lots of movies from all time periods. When you like something, try to figure out why. When you don’t, also figure out why. Go a step further, and figure out how you’d fix the parts that don’t work for you. Read screenplays for the ones you love. MAKE FILMS (use your phone).

I don’t agree that it’s a “plot hole”. I assumed the audience would figure out that, once the boat was stopped, normal exchanges of information would happen between that crash and the villain being taken away. I didn’t need to SHOW it. Nothing worse than explaining the obvious.

(Rolls eyes) Yes, I get the “rebranding “ thing (gotta make the episode titles consistent) but we movie lovers will NEVER refer to this movie as anything but “ Raiders of the Lost Ark”. You can’t have “and the” and “of the” in the same title (yeah, I’m looking at you, INDY 4)!!!

There are so many ways to achieve magic in movies, and I love it when people still employ them. Much cooler than repeatedly pressing the digital button.

The Schüfftan process is one of the coolest visual effects techniques from the silent era. By using a mirror with part of its reflective surface removed, model sets could be made to look full-sized, as in this example from Metropolis (1927)

GREAT movie, but the audience (who asks for originality in films) failed to show up for it. If it had been released as “LIVE, DIE, REPEAT” it might’ve been the hit it should’ve been. Sadly, it was called EDGE OF TOMORROW... a terrible & bland title for a really entertaining film.

Oh come on. People overcome obstacles far greater than yours EVERY DAY to make films. The great Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi has to sneak his work out of his country. It is NEVER easy. If you’re not up for the fight, stand back.

@BradBirdA113 Brad, we have "film studios in our pocket." We have the technology. We don't have the money and stability and time to make a film, and get it seen and distributed. The economy is that bad. No jobs, low wages, people aren't watching and appreciating films made "from the pocket."

If you’re up for some fiercely poetic cinema, Alfonso Cuarón’s ROMA is a must-see. Loved it. Bravo to Cuarón and his team, and for NETFLIX for backing his vision. That said, see it on the big screen BEFORE seeing it again on NETFLIX.

Probably Chris Nolan’s DUNKIRK, an original script that was not only big, but had an ambitious structure (1 hr, 1 day, 1 wk intercut). Like his other originals, DUNKIRK was a box office success, keeping hope alive for more big original films.

One of the down sides of opening a new film on thousands of screens is that many of them are small. INCREDIBLES 2 is best seen on a BIG screen. To see i2 at its best, buy tickets to the biggest auditoriums in your multiplex, and if they’re ALL small, drive to the nearest big one!

RATATOUILLE was Jan Pinkava’s idea. He was developing it when I arrived at Pixar in 2000 to start THE INCREDIBLES. The project was stalling in 2005, when I was asked to take it on. It is an outrageous idea, but very clever, and very difficult to pull off.

@BradBirdA113 how did you pitch the idea for the story of RATATOUILLE? I’m sure the idea sounded really ridiculous lol

@MattDotDisney @Animated_Antic The crew knew I hated the cliche of characters pumping their arms and saying “YES!”, so they quietly animated SEVERAL shots of our RATATOUILLE characters doing exactly that, and sprung them on me at our crew premiere. I laughed my ass off.

I find it kind of odd that so many people want to know the exact “when & where” the INCREDIBLES films take place in. For me it’s a timeless, early sixties-ish, mid-century modern alternate universe.
@BradBirdA113 we know when #theincredibles takes place but I was wondering where it takes place. Was it ever mentioned in the movies? I don’t think so. I know it’s not very important but I was just curious...🙃

“Do the Bartman” — hardest thing I’ve ever done. Full animation. To music. Banged out in a few weeks. In a foreign country. With a ton of different characters, a crew that had never drawn them before & a simultaneous world TV premiere weeks away. Oy. Varga Studios pulled it off.
