Did the police break up this illegal encampment? No?
VCU administration actually got them pizza, coffee, and donuts?
Hmm, I wonder what made things different on April 29th, 2024?
Wanna know the REAL reason why they got rid of the RPI? Look at this comparison for some mid-majors:
RPI/NET
St. Mary's: 6/19
Colorado St: 16/28
Iona: 19/76
SDSU: 20/26
VCU: 21/49
Boise: 22/29
Wyoming: 23/44
N. Texas: 27/39
Davidson: 31/45
New Mex St: 33/86
St. Bona 42/84
UAB, North Texas, VCU, Drake, Bradley are all at-large quality teams that would probably be in the top 40 if not for the organized effort from the Power 6 leagues to freeze out mid majors from getting Q1 and 2 opportunities.
Dayton acquitted themselves as a top 25-30 team and they were deserving of a 7-8 seed. They were one big wing/slasher away from being dominant. Very good season that helped the program.
Hey, congrats to my newly discovered Bona family, including but not limited to
@LilBonaX
and
@SBUnfurled
. What Mark Schmidt has done up there is incredible. Really impressive season and us Ram fans should be cheering our asses off for them next week. Enjoy the title!
Folks, I have more devastating news and I cannot describe how difficult it is letting you all know through this medium.
@RVAMooch
passed away on Wednesday night. One of his best friends since childhood
@MBash_93
messaged me to let me know. We don't know specific details.
Frank Martin has acted like a petulant child for the past 2 months. It's clear he doesn't want to be there, and he should do the right thing and leave on his own accord.
St. Bonaventure is ~10 spots ahead of the cut line right now.
To the people that have them barely in or out: look back through team sheets since 2011. No team with a +.500 Q1+2 record and no Q3+ losses has missed the field. Bonnies currently 5-3 with just one loss outside Q1.
VCU, Bonnies, SLU, Loyola-Chicago, Drake, San Diego St, Boise, Colorado State all way better than North Carolina, Rutgers, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Xavier, Seton Hall.
Man, VCU reactionaries are terrible. We lost a quad 1 road game by 3 points, like literally every college basketball team this season all the way up to the current 1 seeds. Odom had like 5 seconds to recruit and we're still on track for a double bye, top 75 NET. Go touch grass.
so
@SBUnfurled
and I have suspected that the NCAA is being misleading when it comes to how the NET is calculated. We've speculated that they're using it to put the foot on the scale for P5 schools, and now we have data to back up that claim. (thread)
Can someone please explain why, given the level of talent VCU is about to land, a small segment of our fans care so much about what happens at Penn State? Best of luck to them etc etc but Coach O is taking this program on a totally different trajectory.
The A10 had a chance to give VCU a Quad 2 opportunity on Friday if they played at the Robins Center. Now they play on their home court instead, meaning that game will be Q3 even if they play Dayton. Those folks are absolutely clueless how to help their teams get at-large bids.
The glory days of ESPN2 were when they marketed themselves as the 90's grunge channel of sports. Like they aired normal games and what not just like ESPN but the branding was "sports, but if you also like Pearl Jam"
How lucky are we as VCU fans to have Mike Rhoades, the staff, players, and their families to root for every game? How many other programs outside of the P6 have guys with this level of talent AND this much heart year in, year out? So hard to pull off, yet here we are. Incredible.
You know what might have helped Penn State's at-large case? Honoring their home/home agreement with VCU and playing a Q1 road game. Would have helped that 280 NCSOS. Instead they backed out for no good reason. No sympathy from me.
13 years ago, ESPN was massively outbidding everyone for the tournament rights, and it was a foregone conclusion they were going to win. CBS swallowed their pride and did the only thing that would save them: submit a joint bid with Turner.
Thank God they did.
College basketball is a balm that eases the pain of so much heartache and sadness. When VCU's season is over, a wave of reality sets in that's hard to describe.
But the same was true for the other side today. When I saw Donna and Keith Dambrot make eye contact toward the end
I know the refs don't play favorites, but they're making it hard for us not to believe that the way they're absolutely fucking St. Bonaventure at every opportunity.
If you're a VCU supporter and hate Richmond (the city), you should probably pick a new school. Despite the warts, both are pretty great and central to the other's identity.
I’m laughing at all the butthurt Mid major fans in my comments btw, y’all are doing nothing but proving me right- the fanbases are too small to warrant a real discussion of whether the teams themselves matter. Everybody just hops on a pity bandwagon and roots for the underdog.
After the game, VCU fans will be doing a Twitter space. Before we even get to basketball, we would like to apologize to
@Rhody_Shane
for the unforgivable circumstances he has faced tonight. We will be calling on Ed McLaughlin to be fired or resign immediately.
2019: Phil Martelli fired
2020: COVID fucks Dayton dream run
2021: COVID fucks VCU
2022: 3 bid thieves and a freak ankle injury screw Dayton out of at-large
2023: Everything in A10 goes to shit
The only explanation is Martelli put a hex on this league.
MY DAD DOESN'T HAVE LUNG CANCER!!!!
They were certain the cancer they removed from his axillary in May had spread to his lungs. A CT scan shows it's an infection/reaction to immunotherapy.
I am sobbing.
The only differences between VCU and Texas A&M, Clemson, Penn State, Missouri, etc is A) access to quality games January-March and B) VCU is a lot better than all of them.
Just remember folks: if you're in a power 6 league, you can essentially use the first 3 months of the season as practice so you can finish the season 3-10 against tournament teams and get a bid.
Gonna start doing an A10 X factor of the day every chance I get.
The inaugural winner for Saturday, 12/4 is the Bonnies Linton Brown, who had his first ever game as a major contributor right when Bona needed it the most:
10 pts
3/4 shooting
2/4 3
0 turnovers
Feeling extra salty in this moment so I'll say that *part* of the reason why a lot the A10 hates VCU is that we are a large public university that exists to benefit the larger surrounding community. For a lot of private school kids that concept is foreign and scary.
If you need more evidence that Jerry Palm is a not a good person....he blocked
@DelphiBrackets
, a High School bracketology club led by a teacher. Their account is totally G rated, no insults or foul language.
When I asked him about it, he blocked me.
Look, if Indiana gets in, it's because the politics of college basketball have changed to benefit the Power 5 leagues. A 4-7 Q1 and 7-12 Q1-2 with a NCSOS in the 300's and a road record of 3-8 would have never sniffed a bid 10 years ago.
a 90 spot jump for VCU in 40 days. At this rate, the Rams will be ranked -10 in the NET by March 1st, guaranteeing them a spot in the G League next season.
Let's be perfectly clear: VCU is right on the cut line because the Power 5 conferences have stacked the deck in so many ways over the past decade to favor power conference schools. With this resume 10 years ago, VCU would be playing for an 8/9 instead of a bid.
Briante Weber is the greatest defender in A10 history and is possibly the greatest ever in college basketball history. Taking an extra season to break a record doesn't change that.
Michigan State is going dancing if they can hold off Michigan. Must be nice to play mediocre basketball for 3 months and then get a bunch of NET top 30 teams to come to your gym.
The fact that St. Bonaventure is capable of playing this well is even more of an indictment against them. All they had to do this whole time to be a top 50 team was play smart, connected, and with urgency, and for 2 months a bunch of seniors just...didn't?
#72
Pitt beat NET
#29
UNC &
#20
UVA by a combined 5 points and moves up 4 spots to
#68
.
For reference, TCU beat
#314
Central Arkansas by 47 and moved up 13 spots.
The NET is almost exclusively scoring margin (adjusted for strength of opponent). Quality wins mean almost nothing.
Saint Peter's final win of the NCAA Tournament was the most-watched Sweet 16 game in 11 years.
-- Peacocks' win outdrew UNC-UCLA by 15% (UNC-UCLA did come out ahead in key demos).
-- TBS aired three of its four least-watched Sweet 16 games ever this year.
I've seen a bunch of Power Conference bros upset about the Mountain West getting 4 teams in and all I can say is I feel you. It has to be really hard as a fan getting 13-14 Q1&2 opportunities in conference play, including 6+ chances on your home floor. You definitely got screwed
No idea what Garrison Phelps (2023 Utah State commit) decides to do, but should he follow Odom and staff to VCU, he will be an instant impact player. This video was from his senior year in HS. Currently doing a prep season in Missouri. College ready physicality on Day 1.
The tiny but vocal contingent of anti-vaxx, Trump supporting, Confederate sympathizing part of our fan base are embarrassing. Like I don't care if it hurts my engagement or views, don't interact with me. I don't want your traffic on my site. Goes for other fans, too.
man, VCU is moving to another level with Christian Fermin coming in next year. Dude is good enough to play the significant minutes at the 5 at any school in the country. Not to mention Fats Billups, who has a silky smooth game and chose VCU over LSU, Texas A&M, & other P5 schools
As stated a while back, these schools need to break from the A10 and start a new league.
VCU
Richmond
St. Bona
St. Joe's
Davidson
Loyola
SLU
Dayton
+ Wichita
+ Bradley
+ Drake
+ Northern Iowa
^ we can quibble about these
Said all year that the A10 has multiple at-large quality teams that were just unlucky. It showed tonight. Bonnies went and beat a team that beat Arizona on that same court.
VCU is missing 2 of their best players and had the number 13 KenPom team dead to rights late 2nd half. Yeah, we blew it. But we're also going to finish in the top 50 if we stay healthy. Even if Bam doesn't play. If he does, could ould be our best team since 2015.
Once the NET updates, St. Bona will be 2-2 in Q1, a winning Q1+2 record, and no bad losses. All but one of their Q1 and 2 wins were away from home. This is not the resume of a team that gets left out. It's not even a resume that's in the last four in. In by at least 8-10 spots.
Breaking News: The NCAA will grant an additional year of eligibility to any D1 student-athlete who was ruled ineligible to compete for any part of a season during or since the 2019-20 academic year.

Bonnies down at half to UMass due to low morale. Their players don't have 11 metro area Panera locations to choose from like VCU does. Has to take an emotional and spiritual toll.
Yes because one slip up the entire season without one of their best players is disqualifying. You should definitely be in instead with a 22% success rate away from home.
PS -St. Bonaventure would eat your lunch. Hope you guys play in the dance.
This whole "VCU will have a bad game if they can't speed up Saint Mary's" is based off of a lot of old assumptions and dead wrong.
Over the last month, VCU is slight below average in adjusted tempo (174th nationally) and ranks 13th nationally in overall adjusted efficiency.
What's your most unpopular college basketball opinion? Mine is that the current NCAA tournament courts are absolute fire and the old ones looked dumb as hell.

NEWS: VCU transfer guard Max Shulga has committed to Villanova, a source tells
@On3sports
.
The 6-4 senior averaged 14 PPG this season, shooting 41.5% from three.
It's time to realize that Jason Nelson should be getting 25+ minutes per game. And I think Odom has. That's exactly what he played last night.
His last 3 games he has 16 assists and 2 turnovers. He has the 2nd best offensive rating on the team (117.1). He is shooting 46% from 3.
Wow for a bunch of supposedly mature seniors, St. Bona sure is playing like a bunch of free wheeling, lazy basketball. This group should have moved on if they were going to play as selfishly as they have been. Really embarrassing stuff.
