Forgiveness is such a tricky thing. Time heals but also time can make you more aware of what was happening. What you thought was forgiveness might have been self-censorship and undue tolerance to suffering.

I don't know who needs to hear this but just because someone is traumatized it doesn't mean you have to tolerate their abusive behavior towards you. The validity of their suffering does not legitimize any of their toxicity. It's okay to walk away. You don't have to be the hero.
