I second this completely. Always recommend to new investigators that they should start with learning how to follow transactions on block explorers (like Etherscan or @OKLink). Make transactions using all different services (DEXs, Bridges, DeFi platforms, etc…) then check those transactions on block explorers so you can recognize them in the future. The visualizer tools are far from perfect and if you do not use block explorers to supplement them, you will miss a lot.

It is so much easier to catch bad actors on the blockchain than in traditional finance. This is because the blockchain is: Immutable - Transactional records cannot be deleted or altered like in traditional finance. Any mistakes made by someone attempting to launder crypto will stay there forever. Public - Most blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum are public and free to look at by anyone with an internet connection. This also means that anyone can hold bad actors accountable and you do not need to be a law enforcement officer with subpoena powers to do so. Just look at @zachxbt! Young - Bitcoin was created only 15 years ago. The investigative tools used to analyze it still have a lot of room to mature as well. Even if we do not have the technology to solve a crypto crime today, that could potentially change a few years from now, and those transactions will still be there...
As the crypto industry development, compliance in crypto will be same as banking, both of the industries will fight with criminal activities. Because of transparency of blockchain technology, crypto will do better anti criminal jobs than banking in the future. Most of the banking services can be rebuilt as DAPP which are more transparent and trustworthy. The core advantage between crypto and banking is self custody VS custodian. Not your key, not your money.
