Transit riders btwn South Beach & Miami stand in packed buses for upwards of an hour to cross Biscayne Bay. That's if their lucky enough to even get on.
A few wealthy elite are trying to stop the train. Learn more in today's Miami Herald via

40 minutes at a speed of 5.1 MPH to cross Biscayne Bay. Decades in the making it's finally time to
#buildthebaylink
and connect Miami Beach to the region's rapid transit network.
Some are saying that Baylink Metromover should go over 195/Jullia Tuttle to Mid-Beach and not to South Beach via the MacArthur. We researched and the results may surprise you. 😲
Tough transit crowd at this luxury South Beach condo tower where
@CommishEileen
and transit chief Eulois Cleckley are making the case for Metromover to the Beach. “Stop the train!” “Stop the train!”
Why is the Miami Beach City Manager waiting for someone to be killed or seriously injured?
The current config was selected October 27, 2021. Nearly 5 months later, still no devices to keep dangerous drivers out of this world class bicycle lane on our most famous street.
The car experiment is over and
#OceanDrive
is once again a pedestrian only street.
We thank
@CityManagerMB
for listening to community input and reversing course.
Complete standstill for transit riders and drivers on Miami Beach this evening. We cannot let a small group of high-rise dwellers hold mobility hostage on Miami Beach
#buildthebaylink
NOT SAFE: The new bike lanes on Belmont Avenue in Chicago are a complete disaster. They are unsafe for cars, pedestrians, & bikes at a cost of millions of dollars. They created more traffic by making Belmont one lane. They encourage bikes to pass on the right which is completely
Big European trip underway this week by Miami-Dade officials, organized by county's Transportation Planning Organization. Paris, German, UK. Looking at "air mobility" (air taxis), tunnels, and other transit options.

Featuring Miami-Dade County's first parking protected bike lane!
A day after Miami Beach votes 7-0 against a planned train to South Beach, Florida DOT continues with their planned "mega project" including double-decking another highway through urban neighborhoods. City of Miami Beach is supportive.
The "Connecting Miami" project is a massive $1bn+ environmental, mobility, and urban planning failure, recently estimated to be completed in late 2027 -- 2x original completion date of late 2023.
South of Fifth'ers will fight tooth and nail against
#baylink
meanwhile one can walk faster this evening from South Pointe Park to 5th and Alton than driving.
Appreciate the new 15 Street protected bicycle lanes in Miami, which link up to Venetian Causeway (and Miami Beach). Great attention to detail from
@GoMiamiDade
.
Imagine spending almost 1+ hour crossing the MacArthur Causeway like this. The folks on Fisher Island, South of Fifth, and on West Avenue opposing Baylink don't have to. They also don't have the right to stop progress to fix the mobility crisis on Miami Beach.
#buildthebaylink
It shouldn't be this way. Over 2 dozen people waiting for 120 downtown. They see the bus coming -- but it's already packed full and over SRO capacity . 20 min later, bus shows up. Graciously, the driver allows more people , even though over capacity. Still not everyone gets on.
Sometimes you have to fail to succeed.
Thanks to a resolution sponsored by
@marksamuelian
& passed unanimously by Commission
#OceanDrive
will be car-free and fully pedestrianized.
#StayTuned
for more exciting developments citywide.

Ocean Drive is a multimodal wonder. Just this morning we saw dozens on bikes, scooters, skates, foot, cars, and mobility scooters. Short of full pedestrianization with a flawlessly executed plan, it's one of the most impactful changes for South Beach this decade. 🌴🛴🚲🚗 👪
On Saturday we toured Miami Beach's Slow Streets, our County's first parking protected bicycle lanes & a pedestrianized Ocean Drive
This is just the beginning. Our small, dense, urban barrier island's great advantage in the future will be priority placed today on bike+ped infra
Mobility is at a standstill in the urban cores of Miami-Dade County. Ironically, much of this is probably due to the never-ending construction. Perhaps some of the $$$ should be invested in non-car infra. Listening state DOT?
Public works for the win! Thanks so much for understanding the importance of keeping the bicycle lane protected while the armadillos are temporarily removed.
#oceandrive
Mixed feelings about the upgraded MacArthur Causeway bicycle lanes. Much better than before. And shows the potential for a safe, convenient, and quick link between South Beach and downtown. But still misses the mark.
This is how you move people! Once we
#buildthebaylink
Miami Beach will be able to quickly, reliably, and efficiently move residents, visitors, and employees too!
During the
@ultra
Music Festival, we moved over 190,000 passengers on Metrorail and Metromover combined, which is our highest Friday thru Sunday ridership in 2023
#gomiamidade
#drivelesslivemore
The reality is -- our buses are stuck in the same traffic as cars. Without exclusive travel lanes, it's just rearranging the deckchairs on the titanic.
San Francisco sent 100000 surveys to residents seeking feedback on
#slowstreets
Miami Beach,at the behest of 1 commissioner, today removed multiple slow streets w/o any public process
Leadership continue their war,not on cars, but, safer streets for ppl that 🚲🚶♀️
Shame on them!
This morning we hit 1,200 miles on our e-assisted bike. The increase in mobility is even more than we imagined. Every inch of the 7-square mile Miami Beach is now within our reach, and we are able to replace car trips with the bike.
This behavior doesn't surprise us. Cars do not belong on
#OceanDrive
. Our City, as policy, has invited this to our most prized public space.
4 weeks ago Ocean Drive was for people -- now it's for cruising. 🤦♂️ But we can still fix this!
This is arguably one of the most successful car->pedestrian conversions during the COVID era.
Yet the narrative's
#oceandrive
is pure chaos.
What do you think? Miami Beach Staff recommended bringing cars back and Commission voted for it.
Here's the scene last night 👇
One day doesn't make a trend but here is a comparison of
#OceanDrive
with and without cars on a weekend afternoon during the Covid19 pandemic.
We look forward to more

A minor fender bender on the MacArthur Causeway early this afternoon foreshadowing what will be a tumultuous afternoon commute for thousands of people in transit buses and cars leaving Miami Beach.
#buildthebaylink
#baylink
will fly above the chaos on the ground level providing a quick, efficient, and reliable one-seat ride between South Beach & Downtown Miami, and a 1+ seat to regional destinations.
✅ Support the Baylink:
Fisher Island is against Baylink for selfish reasons. We shouldn't forget that nonstop development with more & taller buildings on Fisher Island has led to more intense use of Terminal Island (where the ferry operates) & traffic for South Beach residents, employees, and visitors.
The MacArthur Causeway/395 are bumper/bumper entire length. Not bc it's season, rather It's the endless construction -- that doesn't solve the regions traffic woes but instead contributes & induces additional traffic and deepens the car dependency.
It probably does beat crawling along the Julia Tuttle... Item on Tuesday's County Commission agenda asks for a report on possibility of Seaglider sea planes as a new multi-modal transit option
No surprise there's high demand for 🚆🚆🚆 in NE Dade / Biscayne Corridor! But walk up fare tonight nearly 10x tri-rail for similar distance? Public transit must be accessible & affordable to all. 💰💰
Want to go Downtown, the Arsht Center, or Heat Arena tonight? Good luck on the MacArthur Causeway from South Beach.
Some of your neighbors don't want you to have an option other than a car in traffic.
Finally got around to recording the new Indian Creek Drive bike lane. Temporary protected by delinators. On the table: narrowing car lanes by 1 foot & widening buffer + more robust protection. Thoughts?
Last night, we gathered to remember Miguel Ortiz, a Miami Beach resident killed near the Venetian Causeway while riding his bike.
Today, our work begins. This should never happen to another family in our City.
Imagine living on an island where the Mayor and Commission think they can "solve" traffic by removing automatic pedestrian signals, slow streets, and bike lanes, and pouring millions of $$$ into an" intelligent" traffic system, and building more parking garages.
We, personally, find ourselves riding more and more on sidewalks. Sadly, this is the expected result as city leaders continue to make our streets less safe and comfortable for people using non-car methods of transportation.
Miami Beach Commissioners: We can't allow
#baylink
metromover train because it may lead to height increases (not true).
Also Miami Beach Commissioners: Approved 7-0 a height increase of almost 500' to allow this 548' tower to be built.

Our work is just beginning to
#buildthebaylink
across Biscayne Bay connecting Miami Beach with a quick, reliable, well-studied, and proven concept to Miami.
This is "CARS AT ANY COST":
The dream of a world-class, vibrant, car-free, "pedestrianized"
#OceanDrive
was ruined, so that we could have a line of standstill cars. It's sad, it's pathetic, it's not safe and it's not what the future of Miami Beach should be.
If FDOT's "Connecting Miami" project floods, once again, this afternoon buses connecting South Beach and the mainland could be cut off potentially stranding thousands.
#buildthebaylink
Another day, another driver who has made it onto Miami Beach's shared use paths. This time, it's in South Pointe Park. This happens all too frequently. We've brought this up to staff and electds over the years, to deaf ears. Maybe this time will be different.
Bicycle lanes are now protected on both sides of the block.
Yes, these are just plastic but they make the ride less stressful and more comfortable.

Good morning Miami! Over 500 people have signed the petition to support Baylink Metromover connecting Miami Beach across Biscayne Bay to Miami!
Have you?
We present to you Miami Beach's first bike corral with the expressive intent to improve pedestrian safety, protect sight-lines and provide well utilized bicycle parking.
Just one week ago, many of the people sitting in these cars would have parked + taken a walk up/down this iconic street. Instead, now, they are simply passing through. As the famous Miami Beach architect Morris Lapidus said, "A car never bought anything"
#oceandrive
#nicebikelane
We were told that we must bring back cars to
#OceanDrive
. That the only way to prevent people from "congregating" and "partying" was to erase our dream of a world class pedestrian promenade and have cars replace people.
Last night, St Patty's day, the thesis was tested.
Welcome home! 🥰 Still loving the wider and more protected bike lanes on the Venetian Causeway. For people using bikes (over 1,000/day) for transportation this is a game changer. 🚲🚲🚲
