Despite that, getting his pump fixed is critical he just left us for OR. He will be returning to ICU after surgery.

Chester has finally turned the corner. Breathing is less laboured, temp near normal, seizures have reduced dramatically and his smile is back😊. We will still be in hospital for a few more days. I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared for him in all my life.

Well that was a long 5 1/2 hours. The surgery went smoothly the coming weeks and months will show us how successful it is. Hopefully it will see Chester being able to use both his arms and legs more despite his quadriplegia.

Our beautiful Chester’s surgery was a success he is on the road of recovery. It’s been an exhausting 9 days so far with tears shed. One of the ways we deal with stress is to laugh lots & tell stories to all the wonderful amazing people we meet. We are blessed.

Chester’s diagnosed with a nasty virus (can’t remember the name) it comes with a fever, nasty cough, mucus build up which is always a danger for him to clear.
He is in hospital on oxygen as his levels kept dropping without it. We will see what today brings.

I came home with Chester from pre-school to this!😁 Despite the rain firemen who are volunteering their time on days off to build a wheelchair ramp for Chester have started work. I’m so full of gratitude & speechless. Miramichi is amazing.

Chester is in surgery the long wait begins. As the doctors went through the long list of risks associated with this surgery some of which I can’t think about I ask myself is this the right thing to do. When there are no other options what is a parent to do. My heart is breaking.

Today our boy is 7! 7 years of loving, 7 years of him teaching us.

I cant be more than 20 mins from Chester’s school. It’s not uncommon to get a call that he is crying uncontrollably. If it’s from spasm pain, feeding tube pain, seizures etc… I don’t know. One things for certain in 5 mins of dad holding him at home he almost always drifts asleep

Today we became proud owners of a "new to us" wheelchair van - The Mighty Mobile! As Chester keeps growing, getting him in out of the car was getting too hard.

Update: Chester has had a rough few days with oxygen levels & not really waking up since surgery Friday. We were really concerned with how long it's taking for him to wake up.
Yesterday he had awake times as the day wore on but a lot of pain.

Chester has been ill for a few weeks then suffered relentless seizures on Friday & was taken to Miramichi hospital. Taken to ICU in Moncton by ambulance then airlifted to Halifax. Without going into details he is awaiting surgery. It’s frightening & heartbreaking

After hard work & lugging we are now part of the rural community of Napan N.B. We now have a specifically designed wheelchair house with wide doorways, no stairs, wet bathroom, ceiling lift to get Chester in & out of bed. We are blessed.

It’s nearly impossible for two parents to work with a disabled child. Endless medical appointments are one thing, but also calls from the school for early pick up due to various reasons are regular. Makes it hard for parents of disabled children as there are so many expenses.

Chester’s first day at school today. It didn’t go anywhere near as good as I was expecting all the extra stimulation exhausted him and he was home in bed by 11:30 and slept for 2 1/2 hours. He was hysterical & difficult to calm. It may be a slow process.

After consideration we have decided to stay in New Brunswick. I wanted to move back home but reality is it’s too expensive. We considered Halifax but we have no support there. We have purchased land 15 min from Miramichi overlooking the river to build a wheelchair friendly house.

Chester’s seizures have been relentless lately, his sleep has been poor, he hasn’t been opening his eyes much. The doctor made some adjustments to his medication and he has his eyes open again looking around and more engaged. Hoping the side effects aren’t too bad.

Setback yesterday afternoon. Chester started throwing up in pain he was taken to emergency & it seems he is leaking spinal fluid from surgery. Scar tissue will build & stop this in about a week. Until then keeping him laying down helps the pain a long drive home.

I find since Being Chester’s main carer I cry a awful lot… not breakdown snotty type cries but when things touch my heart I swear something always flies in my eye and I have to wipe tears away... I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing as I always feel braced for bad news.
