Former dancer, now K teacher in LV. Disney enthusiast but not as much as most Disney enthusiasts. Not in the creepy cultish way. Really. Views are my own.
Full disclosure: I initially was worked up about the A's moving here bc I didn't want to give a billionaire $500m in tax credit while NV education is 49 of 50 and I spent $1k on supplies this year. But now I'm against it because I guess I'm an honorary A's fan.😉
#fisherout
Props to
@FOX5Vegas
for laughing at the A's ineptitude.
"They even gave us this free hat for coming (to the Vegas Commerce meeting)...but after all's said and done...you're not gonna want this hat."
I just noticed that neither the Raiders or VGK posted anything to welcome the A's yesterday.
But their post welcoming themselves got a 0.5% like ratio. So there's that.
The "No one wants the A's here" welcome tour kicks off to a great start.
How do you go from calling someone "disingenuous" one day to giving him $385m the next day?
@fabiandonate
I cannot overstate how disappointed I am in you.
I was curious about something so I watched the replay & I think my favorite bit in
#NVLeg
is when
@fabiandonate
picks up the paper to shake it at Kaval. That's when you know s***'s going down.
And to all you
@BrodieNBCS
watchers, yes I saw the chat. Glad you enjoyed my call.😉
Is he saying that "Oakland doesn't deserve baseball because there aren't enough blacks or Asians in MLB"?
Or is he saying "there's too many blacks and Asians in Oakland"?
Cuz...neither of those are really a nice thing to say.
Someone DMed & had wanted to thank me for my "work" (I still don't think I did much). She knows I like plants & wanted to send "a souvenir from the Coliseum". So I got this in the mail & the note wanted me to post a pic of it.
She said
#Athletics
fans would get the importance?🤔
C'mon you guys. Cheer up. This isn't over yet. It could die in Assembly.
Just enjoy your Reverse Boycott game. You don't want your last memory of your last A's game to be one where you're sad bc of today's vote. Being sad today does nothing but ruin your day. Have fun.
Go A's!
A ticket to a regular season Aviators game on a Sat nite in June is $44.
A ticket to a meaningless March preseason A's game in the exact same seat is $72.
But please tell me more about how they'll make tickets in the new stadium affordable for locals.
Right now I'm amused at the realization from LV "A's fans" that Ohtani just signed for more money than Fisher has spent on the A's entire payroll in the last ten years, yet they think somehow it's gonna change once he moves to our even smaller market.
Remember when the A's "announced" that they had "renderings ready" and they were going to have a "ceremony" with a bunch of "dignitaries" and then they cancelled it "indefinitely" like, three hours later and now everyone's just kinda forgot about it?
What was up with that?
#Athletics
Fans...I'm sorry. I'm sorry my state govt has gone so far against the will of their people. I've lived here my whole life and never been this disappointed in Nevada. Biscuit the class pet and the Feelings Corner are open for you if you want to have some quiet time.😢
If I wanted to sneak a $395m bill under the noses of the public, I couldn't imagine a better time to do it than
At 4pm.
On a federal holiday.
With one day notice.
At the same time as a potential series clinching game for the Knights.
It's funny how the A's "community outreach" in LV so far is to sponsor part of one celebrity softball game, do a photo op at one (1!) school, then have
@DaveKaval
block people &
@Athletics
disable comments so they don't have to talk to anyone.
Master class in public relations.
Should be noted: The Trop site (and entire LV Strip) is not in the city of Las Vegas, it’s in unincorporated Clark County, which is governed by the Clark County Commission. Goodman has been tying to lure a major pro sports team to downtown LV for years, which is city of LV.
So...what're the A's gonna do when the financing fails to come through and
@EduOverStadiums
stops the $380m handout?
I wouldn't count this Sacramento news as a death knell. Fisher could still end up selling....
You all remember Steve Hill, Aguero's partner in crime at the SB1 hearings? He's the chair of the stadium board and just hired *HIS OWN AGENCY* at $600k/year to oversee stadium dealings.
#NVLeg
might be okay with corruption like this but we voters have to put a stop to it!
Las Vegas Stadium Authority board votes Tuesday on hiring

It makes me sad that:
1: Fisher is abandoning all of these fans for a Vegas that doesn't even want them
2:
#NVLeg
is willingly complicit in this and willing to give him $380m.
Oakland A's Fan Fest: 10k+ people, ex-players, national & local media coverage, sold out of beer.
Vegas A's Fan Fest (or at least, the closest thing to it so far):
Things we've had in Vegas since the A's postponed their rendering unveiling ceremony "out of respect for the fallen state troopers" over 2 weeks ago:
3 NBA games
2 Raiders games
4 VGK games
1 Biden visit
2 Casino openings
Makes you wonder...do the renders *really* exist?
2000 teachers short in Clark County alone, plus low teacher morale, plus low pay, plus no insurance for substitutes, plus a governor that vetoes free school lunches...
I wrote about the A's for the
@ringer
. I tried to get it all, from the spitefulness of what's been perpetrated against A's fans (and Oakland), to the history-making way those fans fought back. Sorry it's so long—blame John Fisher.

I cannot fathom why anyone would joyfully celebrate the heartbreak and pain of another.
Between the collapse of the LV education system, the $380m given to a billionaire and this, I feel like this city is showing its true colors and I don't know how much longer I can last here.
yay i made it thru without crying! And
@Nicole4Nevada
didn't yell at me to hurry up!
And if you notice, I was the only one to congratulate her on her baby.
I'm not as versed about the Oakland side but wasn't there some big sticking point about how the Oakland stadium wouldn't be viable bc it wouldn't be done by 2028?
And how Fisher is saying "hopefully" the LV stadium will be done by 2028...
Rob Manfred on expansion: "I hope" to establish an expansion committee "pretty shortly thereafter" A's and Rays situations are settled. He wants realignment questions settled before soliciting new cities.
What if...the A's are agreeing to all these amendments to get the swing votes because they know that in the end they won't actually move & have to fulfill them because Fisher secretly plans to sell the team to someone who'll keep them in Oak after
#SB1
passes & the value goes up?
If Nevada was a car...teachers would be asking for money to fix the balding tires before the state crashes into a tree.
#NVLeg
instead spends the money installing a really expensive stereo system. That they stole out of *someone else's* car.
I'm confused. If he's moving to a smaller market & has to borrow money to build the stadium & also doesn't want to have a better draft pick bc it costs more to sign them then how are the A's ever going to have money to sign good players?
I've commented so much against the LV stadium/tax thing that Twitter has been starting to show me a lot of
#Athletics
stuff. I wasn't a fan before but I've paid attention the past few games. Wow...your team (and fans) need a warm hug. And relief pitching.

So $380m is going to subsidize not only Fisher's stadium but also to help increase the value of Bally's stock, *while* our edu system is almost dead last in the nation.
I'm getting really tired of this.

No wonder A's are fighting a Nevada state teachers initiative to put a $380 million stadium subsidy bill on the ballot for a statewide vote. The KC Chiefs/Royals stadium sales tax public vote goes down to defeat today.

So I'm just gonna say this:
After listening to the

@SteveYeagerNV
&
@Nicole4Nevada
will see this billionaire money grab & reject the bill.
The A's will stay.
#FisherOut
A's have history and a fanbase in Oakland. LV doesn't want them & don't care about their history. Wouldn't it make sense to waive the LV expansion fee & make the A's stay in Oakland? Then we would have a homegrown team they like (VGK) rather than one w/ local apathy? (Raiders)

I like how every day so far this week I've gotten off work, opened Twitter and found big national sports journalists dunking all over Fisher and the A's.
Eagerly awaiting Mick Aker's defense piece too.
It's kind of interesting how the Oakland mayor is talking about fighting to keep her team, but Mayor Goodman hasn't said one word about the A's moving here, not even after SB1 was passed.

Senator Monroe-Moreno: Don't listen to him. Attendance is bad because the owner gutted the team!
And the Golden Knights are popular because they're homegrown! That's why we love them!
@Daniele4NV
I swear...if the A's move here, when ticket prices are 3x what they are at Aviators games & locals refuse to battle Strip traffic on a Sat nite & Fisher's last place A's are struggling to pull 8k like last night...the schadenfreude from everyone will be *LEGENDARY*
Yeah our storm infrastructure is a disaster & yeah our edu system is almost dead last & yeah our *other* multibillion dollar stadium is leaking & yeah we could probably fix a lot of that with $380m...
but hurray we're getting a baseball team no one here wants.
🙄
New stadium, affordable housing, increased walkability. And the best part? All privately financed. Can't get much better than that.
Now we just need union workers to build and staff it!
Remember when I & other NV teachers called in against

I hate how when this thing first started I was only kinda annoyed with Fisher's $500m & I didn't even like the A's but now I've become so invested into it if I ever see him in person I think I'm gonna strangle him for stealing a team from a city I've never even been to.
#FisherOut
I'm still dying at the thought of how some expensive lawyer wearing expensive shoes in some fancy conference room thought, "You know what would be a great idea? We should sue the teachers. That would definitely kill the referendum *and* get the public on our side."
I can't even.
I've never seen Kaval live before but he kind of creeped me out and I couldn't figure out why but I just realized that I don't think he blinked at all while up there. He had this look like he was about to get run over by a truck.
I mean, he kinda did, but still.
I feel like you all need to hear this. You could've laid down but you all fought like crazy on Twitter, you packed the stadium for the Reverse Boycott, & you showed that baseball can survive in Oakland.
You fought for something you cared deeply for & I'm so proud of all of you.
It's funny...
Despite VGK winning the Stanley Cup
Despite the Aces winning their second consecutive title
Despite the Raiders staying barely above
@SteveYeagerNV
's tolerance level with a 3-3 record...
There's still *ZERO* enthusiasm among sports fans here for the A's move.
Big League Weekend 2024 is officially in the books. Before the game, the A's held a Fan Fest event with freebies and fun for the community. Our
@isareports
has more.
Remember 3 months ago when the A's had that ceremony for taking $380m of our taxes & it was huge & thousands came & there were entertainers & showgirls & people cheering Fisher & Kaval & everyone was excited about MLB coming here???
No?
Yeah I don't remember it either. 🙄
It's higher than 1%.
Between:
1: The MLB owners vote
2: Fisher having funding problems
3:
@EduOverStadiums
getting this on the ballot
4: Interest in the A's coming here being lower than my bank account's interest rate,
I still think it's not a definite. Keep your chin up. ✊
Haha I was right! Two weeks later and NO CEREMONY. No public A's displays at all but that one VGK "Congrats" sign.
#Athletics
I thought you were excited to come here? Where are you? You wouldn't be screwing NV only 2 weeks after SB1 right?
@SteveYeagerNV
doesn't tolerate losers!
"The A's should move to Vegas bc there's less of 'THEM minorities' there" is the newest "worst reason".
But this might explain why there's so many right-wing trolls that've been popping up lately.
What if the move fails during this season? Can you IMAGINE the scenes at the first game *after* that?
#Athletics
fans are gonna pack the stadium & PARTY. You're gonna be even happier than if they'd won the WS I bet.
It'll be even better b/c it'll be a product of YOUR hard work!
So...what's the Over/Under on when the LVRJ posts some fluff piece about the A's to try and distract people from the ESPN article?
I'll set it at...3pm, Sep 21 (tomorrow)

noticed how all the support opinions last night were faceless unions reading the same script and bragging about their union numbers but opposition was actual people.
And Carmen Sandiego songs.😝
Some ppl have doubted I'm really a K teacher based off my zealousness.
I am. I'm just upset.
Why?
1: NV is 49/50 in funding
2: ~2k teachers leaving CCSD
3: A $904m Rainy Day Fund the govt won't let us use.
#Timefor20
4: But we might give a billionaire $395m
Wouldn't u be mad?
Hey
#NVLeg
, considering how the
#Athletics
pushed this bill at the very last second, can we ask for an amendment to bill them for the cost of this Special Session @ $250k/day?
B/c apparently my taxes are paying for it and I don't like that.
This is what I've been saying from the start. The numbers the A's are giving are inflated.
@SteveYeagerNV
@Nicole4Nevada
do the math and see that this bill is a mistake. Teachers in NV need your support & we are woefully understaffed! Don't give this billionaire $400m!
#TimeFor20
I know everyone's sad, but think about the good that came out of this! So many NV teachers were sponsored through DonorsChoose, I couldn't keep track of all the donors!
We're all so appreciative that we were able to come together in this fight so that we didn't have to go alone.
It's funny...I went to a few local news tweets about
#SB1
passing to peek at the reactions. You'd think some ppl would be happy about a MLB team coming here, but *EVERYONE* is just complaining.
The only positive remark? From this guy. You know who he is? The *CHAIRMAN* of BALLYS

This is the first time I've ever had secondhand embarrassment for a *tweet*. A grown person wrote this and thought "yeah this is good stuff."

KC Royals said new ballpark would cost $2 billion, w/ most coming from team ownership. There will also be a Public Vote on a sales tax that would generate about $350 million in public funding shifted to help construct new stadium. Athletics stadium deal in Nevada: no public vote
Exactly this. You'd think sports fans in LV would be going nuts at the thought of MLB about to approve the A's move here, but I haven't heard anything in the news about them in ages. Even Mick Akers has lost interest, he hasn't posted about them in weeks.
It’s impossible for me to describe the level of disinterest for this here. This is not something Vegas is perusing. This isn’t something locals are lining up for. This is an untrustable owner looking to cash in and MLB thinking there’s still money left to squeeze from Vegas.
It's kind of crazy how it took the government 4 months to make my passport but the
#NVleg
is trying to cram in a $395m stadium bill in less than a week.
Seems...uh...sketchy.
We just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has donated the last 24 hours. The outpouring of support has been amazing! We are confident, with the proper resources, we will defeat John Fisher’s Las Vegas stadium deal.
#SchoolsOverStadiums
I'm struggling to think of a dumber way to blow my money than investing in the A's with *John Fisher* at the helm. He's finding out the banks are too smart to buy into his scam so he's trying to find suckers in LV to fund him.
A’s owner open to selling minority shares of team to Las Vegas investors
In an interview following his first public speaking appearance in Vegas, John Fisher says selling small stakes creates a connection with the community.
@TheNVIndy
I'm annoyed how as an NV teacher *AND* an honorary A's fan, I get to now be depressed about this A's move for *TWO* separate reasons rather than just the "
#NVLeg
hates education" one.
Thanks a lot you guys. 😠
My Kindergarten class got more excited over a chicken pooping on the carpet last year than this tepid response.
I'm sure the banks are looking at this and really questioning whether financing a stadium for crowds like this is the smart thing to do...
The emcee tries to get the Vegas business folks hyped over the Las Vegas
@Athletics
and has to check their pulse.
That, my friends, is the sound of a relocation landing like a dud.
I know I'm optimistic to a fault, but...I'm still not positive that this move is gonna happen either. Between Fisher's finances, the MLB owners voting, cramming that stadium onto 9 acres, lack of any renders or even plans yet, et al...
I'm just saying...don't toss your gear yet.
I'd really like to go back to the "April 2023 Bethany", before I learned that my govt ignores its constituents and its leader will say "Congratulations" to a domestic abuser.
@OakA_sFan4life
We haven’t seen a perfect game in the majors since 2012. That type of a performance should be celebrated no matter what. Too bad more fans weren’t there to witness history being made. Congrats to Domingo German on a historic performance!
Sure is nice of Bally's to build the world's first invisible hotel for the A's.
But you're all missing the most important thing that labels this as fake. Tropicana Ave traffic never moves fast enough to create light trails like that.
Hehe...this is pretty neat. To thank me for everything, an A's fan sent me some authentic infield dirt and grass from the A's stadium! I'll keep it on the windowsill looking over Rickey the ice plant.
With all the fun
#Athletics
fans flooding my feed from my last few posts and a few ppl making me an honorary fan, I feel like I'm being lured with candy and niceness into the most depressed fanbase in America😝
But they are 2-0 since I joined, so...maybe not that bad?
#FisherOut
In the "I'm bored, but I have a calculator!" category:
There's 2.26m ppl in Clark Cty. The A's post got 0.5% likes. Assume 2/5 of that were fans from other teams trolling. So 0.3% of CC are excited.
That's 6796 people.
I think they're gonna have a rough time filling 32k seats.
I found this on Reddit. Apparently Fisher's A's have averaged 25th out of 30 teams in payroll in the last 20 years. Never been higher than 16th.
Yet somehow
@SteveYeagerNV
thinks that this will magically change when they come here. 🤔
So last night I got a lot of DMs from A's fans offering to send money to help with supplies for my class.
Thank you so much! But I would feel guilty if my one class was the beneficiary of the generosity of you all.
If you want to help NV schools:
I'm not really surprised that corruption like this takes place, but what I *am* surprised about is how cheap they're being bought for.
If I ever become a politician, you're gonna have to give me at *least* $10k before I even pretend to pay attention to your scam.
We've got filings from two more lawmakers!
Sen. Skip Daly (D), a yes vote on SB1, reports $2k from the Oakland A's on Oct. 25 (remember: this was months after the vote occurred in June).
Sen. Robin Titus (R), a no on SB1, did not report anything from the A's.
I'm too far away for the June 13th game but wanted to help out! I know it's not much I'm sorrie! Maybe if teachers were paid more...
*cough*
#TimeFor20

then I could donate more...
Four hours of waiting followed by two minutes of sheer panic.

Nevada corruption at its finest.
And I think politicians don't want this making it onto the ballot b/c they don't want to be seen as approving something so vehemently disliked by their constituents.
Even tho we constantly told them this at the hearings.

3: "We'll hire an architect at some point"
4: "That's just dumb"
