! What a journey from working in my basement in 2005 to solving the impossible at TDG! Can’t wait to pick up mine tomorrow! Couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished: making a dent in the universe!!
Also, shoutout to
@BertrandNepveu
congrats man!!! The vision pro would not be the same without the

totem. Who knew that a mixed reality, passthrough headset, with a little knob that transitions between VR and AR would be such a hit...
Professional benchmarks of the Vision Pro versus other headsets are starting to come out from companies like

Here they show how Apple’s advertised “photon-to-photon” latency isn’t fake. And actually much better than the competition
I had a chance to interview

My advice for designing and developing products for Vision Pro. This thread includes a basic overview of the platform, tools, porting apps, general product design, prototyping, perceptual design, business advice and more.

MY TAKE: The Vision Pro high-fidelity passthrough experience parallels Apple’s introduction of the iPhone’s original retina display, which set a new experience bar and gold standard in mobile display fidelity.
Apple’s VR debut was a huge moment for the consumer tech world.
Having worked in VR for many year, I decided to celebrate this moment by writing down candid thoughts on the Vision Pro + a few ideas for Apple & Oculus/Meta colleagues:

Hey I’m Bert and I’ve been obsessed with VR since the Power Glove. I started
@Vrvana
in 2005 to play my

360 games in VR. After a few pivots, we were the first to show you could create presence in XR with video passthrough and we joined

to work on the Vision Pro!
Hot takes on what Toronto needs to be a viable tech ecosystem:
- way more tech events after hours. this is part of what makes sf special. New demos, 535, and Vclub are great starts to recurring events but need more
- startups need to raise more and hire less. Focus on paying

“If you look at most companies that are paralyzed and cannot make new innovations and new products, it’s because they’re trying to turn opinion-based decisions into data-driven decisions so that they don’t
Cette semaine au podcast, on reçoit le jeune technopreneur montréalais Bertrand Nepveu. En 2017, il a vendu à Apple le casque de réalité virtuelle et augmentée qu’il a mis une dizaine d’années à développer.

Nobody can’t compete with Apple Silicon. Meta would need to buy Qualcomm and do it right. Chances are close to none.

was complaining about this years ago!

Glad you liked it, and it’s only the beginning! Will accelerate education with personalized AI tutoring where you learn in a more natural manner instead of the current inefficient one to many cursus.

Presence is paramount, and you will never be able to create it with see-through AR. Passthrougn will only get better, creates presence, opacity, deep blacks, wider field of view… Like

said, video passthrougn will be the longtime winner!

It’s been a surreal past 2 weeks and I’m so humbled that people still remember our demos! 2016-2017 were the most exciting times of my life wowing people around the world!

So true, we knew the limits of the Totem. We scripted the demos like a magic trick to create mind-blowing experiences, but the friction was everywhere! I miss giving hundreds of demos every months, that was the most gratifying part of my job.
Jony Ive: “Ideas are always fragile”
“Ideas—by definition—are always fragile. If they were resolved, they wouldn’t be ideas. They would be products that were ready to ship.”

A breakthrough in material optic tech is needed to have a wide-enough FOV to create presence (90*). Battling against real life photons creates ghostly images that break presence. Moreover, if you want a ray-ban form factor, you have a 1w budget to keep the frame cool.
Delighted to be joining the 5th cohort at the VC Lab! Learning from experts at the Founder Institute will propel our Creativity Tech Fund to new heights. Can’t wait to have all those great journeys with the best creative entrepreneurs out there!

More like the next Macintosh! BlackBerry had a lame keyboard, similar to what VR controllers are. The Vision Pro has the equivalent of the mouse with the look and pinch!

No, because he said there was zero chance it would succeed. Elon needs to go to therapy instead of bragging he never did some. I respect him as an engineer, but he needs to grow up! His ego is bigger than Mars!

4B$ in funding later, and we have the poor user experience from ML2… what I saw at CES last year was ridiculous… only thing good about ML was those fake promotional videos…
